i think the point of Ap car atm is the weight to power, this wouldnt help with that

I thought I read somewhere the difference between 3.2VR6 24v and the 2.0T actually wasn't as great a margin as you would expeect? Compared to the ABA 16v 4 cylinder in Mk3s, the VR6 was certainly 'heavy' and was more prone to front end push because of that, relatively speaking.
You can make some fooking big numbers out of a VR to compensate for that extra couple of kilos in the power to weight game to.
PS. That car is freakin sick :)

why would you bother? the logical route is to do what AP did. get big, reliable power from a lighter, more compact 1.8 20v turbo or even a 2.0T. i suspect it would also involve less f-ing around with the chassis and cross members to make it fit!
having a barge assed V6 in an elise defeats the whole point of the car.
i recon the VR6 motor was put more for bragging rights than true performance
that said i admire the work and vision put in by the owner to engineer such a swap

NA or SC power > than small capacity High powered Turbo Charged car for pure driveability I reckon.
In regards to making it fit. Would be much the same as making a 1.8t fit given that both engines bolt into a similar chassis. VR6 is quite a compact engine. Its just the intake manifolds that make them look bulky.
Would be interesting to see the weight difference between the vr6 and the 1.8t. Handling could get questionable if it is too heavy too far back!
here we go. US market got fwd vr6 powered MK4s
MK4 GTI 1.8T = 2932 lbs. MK4 GTI VR6 = 3036 lbs.
Yeah Justin, that car doesn't handle at all!! The engine is very heavy and it's only na so the gains are little!!
For a lotus a turbo four is tops, or a k20a supercharged!!

Hmm if they can make a VR6 engine fit, I wonder if its possible to squeeze in a C32B (NSX motor) ?
Again it may have the same issues of weight as the VR6 motor but god damn it would sound good !
K24 + Supercharge would = sooooooo much win :D

The weight gains will probably have a negative effect on that car, sadly. But a very unique swap, indeed!
