okay i have had my 06 GTI (DSG/Leather) since 2007; i am the second owner.

overall i am a proud owner however.... ... .. .

the servicing is out of hand in my opinion; my 75K service was 545.00AUD and my 60K service was over a thousand dollars.

then i get my report to say next service Dear Mr. XXXX we will need to change your timing belts etc which will be near apx. 900.00AUD on top of the service.

it's had over 5K of warranty work on the air-conditioning; all ignition coils have been replaced over a 5 week period including an embarrassing situation in the CBD in peak hour traffic when an ignition coil shat itself and appeared (from an outsider) that i was having an underbonnet fire. In the few years i have owned it the car has eaten a couple of VW ipod connects also??

it's more than likely going to be more cost effective to get out of the car and into something brand new soon. GTi or GTD is where the budget is.

opinions?

Your 75k service was very expensive, I paid $430 for mine which I thought was expensive!!
The previous owner before me also paid well over 1k for the 60k service which doesn't sound uncommon.

Have you considered having the car serviced at a European Garage such as European Autotech, VW Village etc?
I know Derek's servicing prices are much cheaper than VW and having it serviced won't void your warranty as he uses genuine parts. If you were to go down this avenue you should see you saving yourself many hundreds of dollars.

Just for interest, how many kms has your car got on it?
Are you having any issues with the car currently? Or are you just disheartened with it?

my 15k service at VW cost around the 400 mark but ill just stick to my mechanic at exoticars now. Get a GTD and be different, we need more oilers up in here

Sorry mate, didn't realise you were in Adelaide.
Those servicing costs are very expensive, sounds like the dealer is stringing you along.

As it currently stands, are there any major issues with the car?
If there aren't maybe hang onto it for a little bit longer and have it serviced independently next time?

Alternatively I suppose if they were to give you a good trade on a new GTD/GTI and its financially viable that would be a good route to go also
:)
