Thought it would be good to have a perpetual tyre deals/pricing thread. It's always good to know what's happening in the market and not starting "Which tyres should I buy?" threads.
I'll go first ;)
I am going into Castle Hill Jax on Saturday morning for a set of Michelin PS3's, 225/45/R17
$265 a corner + $55 wheel alignment
I'm glad I waited for EOFYS! ;-)

The last tyres I bought were Bridgestone Turanza for the Daimler. I bought them as they were the best all rounder for noise, economy(fuel) and wet weather.
What are peoples practical experience and thoughts on the best 18" tyre for the Golf? There are lots out there and there is no point talking to tyre shops as they all want to sell the tyre with the best mark up for them.
all I can say is tirerack.com FTW!

True, true... better eat more McDonalds and drink more coke to support America.. oh and hope that the middle east buy more weapons off the US from wars that the US have created, oh did I say that?
Then - cheaper tires for us... am I bored at work on a saturday - yes!
I will always try to buy from Australian businesses. Support the local economies.
Strong AUD is hurting but maybe you don't realise that yet.
You always 'try' to. I will support me first ;p

Blame the suppliers.
If I can get Eagle F1s for less than wholesale price overseas then it is Goodyears fault for overcharging.

Has anyone got a really good deal on tyres for their R32 recently? I need a full set. 225 40 R18 92Y
Waiting on a shipping quote from Tirerack on some Goodyear Assym2's but if it's only a little bit cheaper I'll probably just go somewhere in Sydney.
Happy for any advice on tyres I should look at instead though too.
I got 225/40/18 Pzero Rossos from Bob Jane in Haberfield for 299/tyre

Thanks for the tip off Hebe but I'm going with the tirerack option.
4 x Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric2's for $980USD delivered.
I know it's in a million threads but can't find them specifically; what is the story with having to pay GST and Duty? $1000AUD is the point where it gets charged isn't it? Looks like I might be fine with this order.
Now to find a tyre shop who won't be too pissed off to fit tyres from O/S...

The A$1,000 applies to value of goods only, excluding shipping. Once it exceeds the $1k, duty of 5% is applied on value. But GST is applied on value + shipping + duty.
Goods with a declared or assessed value not exceeding A$1,000
If your goods arrive in Australia by mail and have a declared or assessed value of A$1,000 or less, the goods may be imported free of duty, taxes and Customs and Border Protection charges, unless they are alcohol products or tobacco products. Apart from alcohol and tobacco products those goods will be cleared by Customs and Border Protection and delivered by Australia Post without you doing anything.
How is duty and GST calculated?
The Customs value of goods imported into Australia is known as the ‘transaction value’. It is usually the amount you paid for your goods, converted to Australian currency. The exchange rate that is used is the rate applied on the day the goods were posted (exported).
When the goods you import are valued at more than A$1000, or include alcohol or tobacco products of any value, a Customs value is used as the basis for calculating the amount of any duty and/or GST and other taxes payable.
Duty payable is calculated on the Customs value of the goods. Relevant duty rates are determined by the Customs Tariff Act 1995 and are applicable at the time an import declaration is made.
GST is paid on the Value of the Taxable Importation (VoTI). The VoTI is the sum of the Customs value, transport and insurance costs (or postage and insurance) plus any duty payable and WET payable.
Below is an example calculation for an electric sound amplifier with a duty rate of 5%. The purchase price was US$1,274 and the exchange rate on the day it was exported was 0.9100 (A$1 = US$0.91). The postage and insurance was US$118.30
Customs value converted to Australian currency = US$1274/0.9100 = A$1,400.00
Postage and insurance converted = US$118.30/0.9100 = A$130.00
Duty (amount payable) = 5% of A$1,400 = A$70.00
VoTI = (customs value + duty + postage and insurance)
= A$1,400 + A$70 + A$130 = A$1600.00
GST = 10% of VoTI (amount payable)
= 10% of A$1,600 = A$160.00
Amount payable to Customs and Border Protection
Duty + GST = A$70.00 + A$160 = A$230.00
Plus import declaration (lodged by document) processing charge of A$48.85
Total payable = A$230.00 + A$48.85 = A$278.85
I also have a question, instead of making a new thread. If I purchase tyres/wheels from tirerack and my content is under $1000 AUD but shipping tips it over $1000 AUD, will I have to pay GST when it comes to shores in Australia? or am I okay with no GST and duty?
If I have them split the order to two separate names at the same address, do you think I would still have to pay all the excess values for the purchase?
EIGHT

$1,000 AUD is only on the goods itself, does not include the shipping price
So in your case, you shouldn't be charged any duty fees.

TBH, if I wasn't in a rush to fit tyres (new rims just before xmas ) then I would've bought from tirerack myself also.
I believe, most tyre shops will fit them for you, they might not be too happy about it (as you're not buying tyres from them) but they should be fine with fitting tyres. When I used to live in the Hills District, I always used Mathew Tyres in Seven Hills to fit my own tyres and they were more than happy to do it for me.
Not sure how north you are, but Tyrepower in Atarman should be willing to do it for you, I used them once (as I used to work in Nth Sydney) to fit these Toyos I bought from JDMyard.

Please guys no more talk about tyres, for if you are after tyre knowledge look no further than.... 'THE TYRE WHISPERER' also known as DaveR. He can answer all tyre related questions... I even heard that he once turned a basket of fish into semi slicks for a track day and walked on hot rubber at WSID!

They are clearly confused, i agree!
Which ones are used in my gold hand gun Gunwog?
Swift is the brand name, scirocco II is the model.
They combine the price of Suzuki Swift with the quality of VW Scirocco :)
