View Full Version : What colour is your car and why did you choose it?

Buying a car, especially a brand new car, is pretty exciting. One of the most exciting and perhaps difficult choices is colour. Colour is a highly personal preference but I'm curious to know why you chose the colour you did :D
Also would be interesting to know what colour would have been your second option!

I had a black car once (Alfa 147). It was dirty most of the time but after a detail (paid, not self done) the car would just look so killer and made it all worth while. Nothing quite as awesome as a super clean black ride! If black paint wasn't so hard to keep looking wet I'd get a black car every time.

Candy White.

Fell in love with Japanese Style tuning when I first got into cars and absolutely loved the Integra Type R in championship white. That's where my love of white cars began (all of my cars have been white so far!).

Always thought sports cars look HOT in white, the brightness just pops on the street and always manages to catch my eye instantly! It is also pretty rare to see many sports cars in white, I guess it's not very popular as most people probably refer it to the "refrigerator" colour.

I love the black and white colour combo and just love how the black bits stand out! Some other advantages of white is that it stands out pretty well at night, pretty easy to clean ( no water stains ever!) and stays relatively cool in summer!

Originally we walked into the VW dealer thinking we'd only get a 90TSI on our budget, we liked the United Grey on the base car. Then after talking price we found out we could get a 118TSI, and after a bit of browsing out in the yard decided we liked Candy White with the larger wheels, so we ordered that. After sleeping on it we decided that the Sports Pack is worth the extra coin so added this to our order. That was going to push the delivery date back even further so we asked what was available sooner. They had a Reflex Silver one on a boat already, and after umming and arring we agreed to take this car (the price was VERY good) instead of waiting on a Candy White one. At first I thought the Silver was a little boring, but it has grown on me and I now love it.

United Grey. It's dark enough to still give that "wet" look but not so dark as to show up dirt when slightly dirty. WHERE IS MY RED LEATHER AS AN OPTION VW!
Black. Only if I had it as a second car and if there were no water restrictions, which makes for a difficult time in maintaining it as clean as it should be.

I was consideriing the white but alas at the time of purchase it was not available for the R32. Now after the weekend and detailing my little brothers metallic white Mazda 3 I am also a bit irked about the difficulty in seeing the wax on the car during application (though I must admit the metallic white is damn HOT!).

Who said once you go black you never go back !
My previous car was black, as much as black is a sexy colour, I would never choose a black car again.

At the time I was aiming for a United Grey/Candy White R, spoke to the dealer and somehow after discussing paint 101,
I decided to order a UG car to my specs from factory - 4months in the making and one serious boat ride around the world.

No regrets and if I were to buy another car it would be in Gunmetal.

White. I have always pictured a GTI should comes in white. If R32, it would be the blue or the grey.
Black would be a classic colour, always elegant, but a pain in the arse to keep clean.
Also, like SUGA, the white and black combo seems to work well in my mind.

i actually ordered a GTI twice.

the first time i ordered a Blue Graphite. we wanted something dark so that the black plastic bits kinda blend in (we don't want to colour code) and BG was a new colour at the time.

however we cancelled this car becos i bought a EP3 at JDM auction.

a few months later, we decided to replace the Jazz as it was developing CVT issues so we went to buy a GTI again. this time they have a United Grey in stock with the spec we want so it was a no brainer. we always used to buy silver and grey cars becos they dun look dirty when they are. but after getting the EP3 (CW), i start to like white cars too.

Blaaaaaack. It all started when I saw another black VR6 around the corner from my place, slammed to the tarmac and stockies sprayed matte black aswell.. The thing was gorgeous, and I loved how stealthy it looked! So when the time came to go look for my own one, I had some pretty tough prerequisites - I wanted a black, low KM, late model (so I didn't have those stupid grey plastic trim bits) and manual transmission, and anybody who knows their VR6's will figure out that by now that's a bloody hard combination to find.. Add a sunroof into the mix, and you're talking impossible! (mine doesn't have a sunroof, although that really doens't bother me..)

Luckily I found one that ticked all the above boxes and then some, I don't know how it happened but fate stopped shovelling shit into my face and kindly gave me what I wanted :) I'm soon spraying the stockies black aswell and I'm looking forward to the car looking compleeetely blacked out. So I guess thats why - I love the tough look that black gives a VR6, it is unlike any of the other more common colours such as white or grey, and the exclusitivity tops it off!

Red...Absolutely love it and IMO it is the colour which suits the MKV best.

My Corolla Sportivo is white so i wasn't going to get another.

Wasn't going to go black as it would be too damn hard to keep clean, although in all honest it was probably my next favorite colour.

All the rest of em' i didn't really care for haha.

candy white baby!

why? because white is the new black. it just looks awesome. i need a car with a contrasting interior too and the black leather goes great. i also love the contrast between the grill and tinted windows. from the start i did intend to colour code it too and in CW it looks the sh*t!...

DBPE...the ONLY colour to have for an .:R32

I love Blue...what more can I say. The white was tempting...and I would have grabbed a Tornado Red one if it was available when we ordered the .:R. Very happy with the car/colour.

Blue Graphite for me. I originally wanted UG however I wasn't in a position to wait for months due to my existing car coming up for renewal. When I first saw it it looked purple in the sunlight and I wasn't interested at all then I saw one in the showroom ready for delivery and it looked STUNNING so that sealed the deal and there was one in stock in the spec I wanted.

Really happy with it but it's a high maintenance colour - the Mrs suggested black but we were in the process of trading a black car and I wanted something different. So far we've only seen 1 more GT in Blue Graphite and Tinto's Pirelli, seems to be a very rare colour - out West anyway ;)

Black Magic, I really wanted Deep blue pearl but when I bought mine all that was available was black or silver and I thought the silver wouldn't show the r32 grille very well. If I was doing it all again and had the option I think I would go white, every time I see a mark V in CW I fall in love. :)

I got United Ga.. I mean Grey because it was a subdued but handsome colour. I wanted something low-key and tough. It was a tough decision between Grey and White, but having owned ONLY white cars previously, it was a plunge.

It was the right choice. In fact, I was so proud of myself LOL that I got another one in grey.

I generally tend to look seriously at whichever colour the manufacturer tends to use to promote the vehicle in question. That's why I went for Tornado Red for the MKV. Having said that, I really like the Candy White too.

i went from a black mk4 Gti that looked amazing for 10 mins after i washed it. one minute after that and your gutted cause of the dust etc.

when picking up the R32 it was either white which looks incredible or Blue. as there were no white ones for sale i went the blue and couldnt be happier.
when you see that blue coming down the road you know its an R32, and everyone else knows its an R32!!!

One of my bosses has one of these, exactly the same! It's sex on wheels!

I love black cars, they look the best when clean...it is a pain to have them get dirty so quickly but there is nothing like standing back after a giving it a good bath and knowing you made the right choice.

Also, I think it was Henry Ford who said "You can have my car in any colour you like, so long as it's black"

Wanted United Grey as a first choice and then white as a 2nd.

Always liked grey cars.

Can't get a Pirelli in white or grey though... so ended up with black... which is a bitch to keep clean.

Cam

White Pirelli would look great!

My car is white, I love it because it contrasts so well with the black honeycomb grill and stands out.
Especially with the 'subtle red lip gross' as Jeremy Clarkson refers to it around the grill.

Not sure why, but I just have a thang for white cars
:)

Black MKV Pirelli and GT.
I chose BMP for my MKV because it hides the MKV "goatee" on the GTI. With only 4 colours available for the Pirelli, it had to be Black Magic. Yes keeping it clean is a bit troublesome but it ain't work when you love the car (plus I get a good workout at the same time)

IMO The choice of colour depends on the car in question. Some colours suit the car while others less so.
I think Blue, CW and Silver look the goods on the R32. While the MKVI GTI looks best in CW.

Black - definitely looked the best / most aggressive for me on the 118 TSI. United Grey was a very close second however, would've been happy with either :)

Although...you wouldn't be getting this with any other color :

I've always loved black cars, but as stated earlier they are so annoying to keep super clean all the time.

Although black is still my preferred colour (given the option to choose), it also depends on the shape/type of car as well.

EP3 looks so "wrong" in black.

I agree but have also fixed it for you.

Black because I hate black cars:

- Hard to keep clean Wash once a week.
- Always have to chamois dry after a wash Use the two bucket method and clean microfibre towel when drying, dont use wheel sponge on paint etc
- Swirl marks. Pro detail once a year
- Scratches show up a mile away Park 1.2 miles away and you wont see them
- Heats up interior when parked out in the sun Good tint and windscreen sunshade that fits properly could help.

Anyway i chose CW this time, should be easy to look after but wont be much shine like the metallics. DBP was better than black but would still be dusty after a day, however still looked good if I don't look too close but it's usually the boot sill and rear window that catch the dirt first.

Honestly the best thing you can do is have the paint corrected and get busy layering up a rock solid sealant like Zaino Z2 Pro with ZFX. It'll give you a massive chance of fighting swirlies and keeping that black paint sexy for a long time.

Get a proper two bucket wash method going as well and dry using the very damp chamois + waffle weave towel method. I use a Meguiars "Soft Buff" chamois which I always leave quite wet in one hand and a waffle weave towel in the other. I use the chamois to wipe most of the water off and then gently run the soft towel over after.

OH, and don't forget - never scrub into the paint like a madman. Gentle passes, and minimal passes when washing and drying.

Trust me - it's not as difficult as it sounds either, once you've got your technique down-pat the two bucket wash and two piece dry methods are just as easy with better results! Tried and tested on 3 black cars so far :)

silver because it looked clean on a stock jetta....wasnt interested in the other colours really

plus, its easy to keep clean, not like my old graphite euro which I washed religiously every sunday for 2.5 years before I sold it. I still wash on sundays, but just not as much on the jetta....
