I've yet to see this on the road! I guess I'm not driving around in the right places.
Candy white tickles me in special places, and yours being an R32 3-door does even more than that  Love it!
How well do the PSS10s go? I've heard fantastic things about PSS9s as road-going coilovers.
keungleung - haha! did that on purpose!
rayray06- Better have a meet soon, or come around to the eastside :)
The PSS10s are great, makes the car feel so grounded and handles like a dream. They are a bit stiff ( even on the middle setting) but that doesn't really bother me unless i'm driving down Parramatta road :P

Absolutely nice 32 there Johnny. Tastefully modded and I must say, white GTI's look the part. Congratulations on such an awesome car.

HI suga, that's an amazingly beautiful r32 :)
Love that Kreissieg exhaust, probably one the best exhaust for r32 in the market currently.
GIAC tune is a great mod. My older's brother r32 pushes 150atw with intake only during the nsw dyno day 09. It really transforms the car in term of its pace and the general feel (more aggressive throttle response).
Have fun :)
hey jonny whats t he pasword? for the tunnel run?
Hey Edwin! Thanks!
You've convinced me now haha (easily convinced!)
love the carbon mods.. less truly is more!!

New Front End (meaner, lower...)
Exhaust manifold (if not done yet)
Cams
mmmm.... F/I (turbo)
Now if it were me... everything would be performance... not the show car kind.
Love it but would put the money into speed any day.
Except, performance is costly, and thus why I am doing some small aesthetic mods...

Hey Justin they are pretty good photos, however if you want me to take some pics of SUGA's R32 with my Nikon D2X we can arrange that we will find some good locations
There is a studio in Penrith where we took these photos Link (http://photos.newsys.com.au/Cars/Volkswagen/R32-Photoshoot/VW-R32-Picture-Package-3/692366063_rrw5U-XL.jpg)PENRITH !!! I know you dont go that far for your holidays

He's a busy man that Mark!
 Well if you'd dropped the kind of coin you have on it so far, surely FI or a SC is the only way to go.
Looks brilliant though. Very, very nicely done. What settings are you running your PSS-10s at?
I was seriously considering FI at one point. It's going to cost a fortune and will need to upgrade the brakes as well I'm assuming? I need to win the lotto!
SC, although it sounds awesome at first, I'm sure I'd get sick of the constant whining.
PSS-10s are set to ( 5 ), middle setting.

Awesome looking R32 Suga, something to be very proud of.
No expense spared on the mods, and keeping a minimalistic look is the key.
Next things I'd do are H&R sways (as Frenchie recommended), Haldex Gen II (and maybe the switch), headers+cams in that order. Don't know of too many locals with cams and a tune to go with it yet.
If you're bored you could also do a mild stereo upgrade & RNS510 (but assume you got the Nav unit).
cheers,
I love the quality of this car, so nice in every way. I really aspire to owning something like this one day, where every mod is of the highest quality.

Glad you got them Suga, bit hard parting with these good mods.
I had the front on soft, rear on hard (think that helps understeer) and would recommend that, bit more comfortable on bad roads too.
Shouldn't be too hard to adjust it later.

Your euro mechanic should be able to do it in 5-10mins, otherwise could pay APR a visit and fix them up with a carton of beers perhaps?

Hmmm, soft front stiff rear. Sounds good to me! It's an easy job to adjust these any time in the driveway no hassles.
Soft Front, hard rear is the recommended setting for H&R Sways. Some people have gone hard/hard and find that steering the car is a little too heavy. Sways dont make the car ride harsh at all. It simply makes the turns more crisp, direct and in most cases eliminates body roll on the R32. Good addition there Suga. You wont regret it.

Hey just a quick question Christina, I noticed you mentioned you got 20% tints...I was thinking about going 20% as well. Do you have any problems seeing out etc at night? Have you ever had any trouble from the cops?
20% is fine, especially in the golf as it's got pretty big windows and lets in quite a bit of light. When I had 20% on my old mx5 it was pretty hard to see out of, had to wind the windows down all the time at night. No trouble from the cops at all and to be honest, I think I could of gone 15%, I like dark dark tints :P
Nothing against dogs especially dauschunds as I had 12 of them when growing up both black and brown in colour. But Dogs bark, they ruin your garden, they poo everywhere, they wee everywhere, you have to wash/shampoo them at least weekly and they eat lots. You might say its manageable now, but once you start having kids, I think Justin Fox will need to do all Dog chores. The only thing kids/babies dont do compared to Dogs is ruin your garden. You have to wait til they turn 2 to be doing that so you got time.
Back on topic, cant wait to see the CF rear spoiler on your car Suga.

+1 for carbon spoiler =)
But on the other hand, a pup will also. Be a loyal companion for life (until it finds someone willing to give it more food). Sit on your lap/floor next to you whilst you do stuff. Get you outside for exercise (not implying anything here). Do stupid things that you will make you ROFL. Cheer you up when you are sad.
I've got a picture of when my pup had diarhea or when he has torn something up. But at the end of the day he's one of my best buddies in the world. Oh yeah and 2 year olds don't sit and stay still like a dog can.

Pads came in today guys so I'll book Christina's car in to get them fitted, sway-bars too.
I ended up ordering a full set of EBC Red Stuff pads. I've run the Green Stuff (street use) and they were not only great, but they had very little brake dust. The Red Stuff pads are more aggressive than the greens and will make some noise when cold but once they're at normal operating temps they apparently don't make any more noise and better yet they give off even less brake dust than the EBC greens (which give off less than the ridiculously dusty OEM pads). We'll see!

26-03-2010, 04:56 PM
Pharkus - the OEM end links might not be up for very thick sways. I am not sure who makes aftermarket end links for MKV's though, you'll have to look into that one (most aftermarket ones will be adjustable too).
OK what a SHOCKING DAY today was. It all started out great. I got to Top One and ran into a familiar GTI:

It was REV 555.

Nice offset, nothing crazy, just right.

Then the Frenchman arrived and we got busy installing his OSIR lip, that all went really smooth but it was all downhill from there.
First up the sway bars. SUGA bought these 2nd hand off G-Rig (I suggested it would be AOK as nothing much can go wrong with sways and they were fairly new too) but on inspection Dedy said there was a problem. The bolts on the swaybar brackets were damaged (damaged when installing onto G-Rigs car) and basically if installed as it was, the bars were going to make loud knocking noises on full lock and when turning, it's because of the way the front swaybars attach (the way they are designed on the MKV).
Tendy has gone through 3 sways because of this already and says it's covered well on the forums (DOH!). Basically there are 2 plates and they end up moving, stock bolts will come loose and the knocking begins. Dedy has even welded some together for Tendy but it eventually made noises too. The only way around this is for us to buy new bolts and clamps. VW do not sell them separately (have to buy the swaybar with it as a kit). We'll try to contact H&R ASAP.

We were also missing bolt in any case so we decided not to go ahead and install the front, but we did install the rear. I set the rear to soft instead of hard which should be a good compromise since we're running the stock front bar.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/4463433393_290f79c68d_o.jpg
When Dedy installed the rear bar he noticed this. Yes it's a leak, from the diff? Warranty will have to cover this one but wait, there's more bad news...

New EBC Red Stuff pads vs. stock pads. See the differences? Yeah, they didn't fit! Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4061/4463433587_d9979b18ca_o.jpg
Onto the next job, Tendy gave Suga this DSG mount to install and guess what? It too didn't fit!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! Fuuuuu! Looks like Suga needs an R32 specific one.
Next up was the OSIR carbon wing which Dedy didn't want to do as sikaflex takes 6hours to dry. That means I have to do this one alone at home. Grr!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4049/4464210248_d33a1099b2_o.jpg
We were having such rotten luck. I was worried about doing the front guards because if you don't heat up the paint right, it'll crack and that really would have killed the day for me. You can see in this pic that Suga has already damaged the guard so this had to be done.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4002/4464210602_e7a8a51dce_o.jpg
Dedy made sure the heatgun heated up the paint nice and rolling went perfect (phew!).

Whilst I was under the car I thought I'd take the chance to inspect the OEM bracing and as you can see it's thin and very weak, it's so weak in fact you can move it with your hands and you can literally see it rippling on the edges from chassis flex.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4035/4464210472_7e32ac820f_o.jpg
Just a little bit further up you can see how there is no brace at all but there are bolts there ready for a brace of exactly the same dimensions, strange huh?
http://carview-img02.bmcdn.jp/minkara/parts/000/002/748/026/2748026/p1.jpg
Tendy has ordered some. I think it's a good idea to do so as it's evident that the chassis is flexing under there and the single stock brace isn't doing anything about it.
OK so on the drive home I thought I'd at least throw the car around a little as it had the new rear sway bar and to be honest I felt no difference. There's one huge left handed sweeper on my way home and at the very apex of it there's a dip. SUGA consistently rubs there and now that the guards have been rolled you can still juuuuuuuust hear the lightest of light rubbing noise, nowhere near as loud and bad as it was before so at least oe thing went well today (we might even roll it a little harder next time).
All in all, what a shocker. I feel gutted and I'm sure Christina will too after reading all of this.

There better be some flowers when christina gets home!
A wise man told me once, never get anything installed on a car on a Friday. Bad luck there Justin. The bolts on the H&R sways are easily replaced. Not all TAI's are made equal so you really need one specific to the R32 but make sure you tell Christina that TAI's might induce some in-cabin vibration. Should have done the Rear CF wing first and let it settle down but hey you know for next time. You can get stronger Rear end links as well to compliment the sways. YOu can get them from Ian from Rennenhaus. BSH makes good end links, Neuspeed also makes them. Good luck with your next attempt.

I never had any noises whatsoever with the sways and the OEM bolts/links were fine on mine.
I had an Duro 90 TAI from APR, no probs. Has to be an R32 one as pointed out.

It was $7k but that was with a bad exchange rate (during the crash) and shipping from Japan too (very expensive as it's a huge box to ship). A lot more craftsmanship and design goes into this exhaust than a set of H&R Sway Bars at $1,175.00AUD don't you think? In the end of the day I suppose premium brands command a premium price and yes, some people are mad enough to pay for it

It's an annoying thing about soft pads, but how hard do you brake? Would also probably depend upon the traffic conditions as well. Did you have Dave wax them as part of the detail? That should at least allow you to go to the local car wash and pressure hose "most" of the dust off.

Amazed to see the amount of difference the little insert can make to the car. On start up I could noticeably feel increased vibrations through the cabin, some people might not like it but I love it! (apparently this goes away over time?). The insert certainly does it's job, shifting is pretty much instant now whereas before there would be a slight lag between shifts.
The hawk ceramic pads are certainly an improvement over the stock pads in terms of every day usability. I'm able to modulate the braking now, super smooth compared to the stock pads which I found a little too grabby. Hopefully these pads will resolve the brake dust issue, I'll find out soon! :>

I'll chime in: The vibrations in Christina's car, on idle, is much much much more noticeable in her car than in my GTI after installing the TAI's. Her Neuspeed one is a lot taller in design than the APR one Tendy gave me (which I think is the softer duration too).
As a passenger her shifting sounded faster when she used the gear knob to shift (not the paddles) but when I drove her car I couldn't really notice much difference in shifting in normal conditions via the paddle shifters (I don't notice a change in my GTI either).
Have to do more high rpm shifting ASAP. I was in granny mode all day yesterday, just felt like driving slow
The insert is cheap from what I remember and super quick/easy to install! Contact Ian (rennenhaus) and he will fix you up!
The insert basically smoothens and quickens shifts, I noticed this using the gear knob but not so much with the paddes (not sure why?) For the price and how easy it is to install, it's a no brainer mod I think! Just do it Kev! :)

 Kevin I have no idea. A few guys on here have way more experience than me with the TAI's. I know for sure, just by looking at the Neuspeed one and the APR on that I had, that the Neuspeed looked more hardcore. It was twice as tall as mine meaning it would probably work better (my APR one just slid into place without any force whereas the Neuspeed one was a damn tight fit and needed a lot of silicone grease and force to get it all the way in).

Today bigwill came over as he wanted me to test his suspension out. His girl thinks it's too stiff but after having a little drive I thought they felt great. Firm but they were definitely working well over the bumps.
Wills car is a manual too so that took me by surprise. Felt like I'd forgotten how to drive a manual! His short shifter is super notchy. I like it. Car was in gear (I didn't realise this), clutch had a long action and I even forgot to let go of the handbrake  I only just started to get used to driving it by the time I got back, and realised the R32 makes so much torque down low you don't have to rev it at all
After the ride I insisted that he hop in Suga's car to feel what a really stiff ride feels like, sure enough the difference was light and day. Where Will's suspension takes the edge off the bumps Suga's car let's you feel all of it in great sharpness. We decided to soften the set-up and wound the dampers down to 3 at the fronts (from 5) and the difference was felt immediately. Initially it felt a little too soft but I think it's the right setting. It's still very firm but the sharp edge over the bumps has gone. So for now, 3 at the front, 5 at the rear. We'll live with it like this for a while before trying out 4/5.

Very nice, i've considered getting my grille done, just to get rid of that plate holder.
Thanks Frenchie for the grill and for putting it on for me! I love it!
I'm totally digging the oil cap as well!
Just ordered some silver on black plates, it should make the plate on the front dissapear a bit more.

Full replacement. There was one for sale recently, but if you want one I suggest contacting Ian of Rennenhaus for prices.

Are they hard to change? Clips/bolts/screws?

gday dave i think its a replacement mate. I dont think its that hard to change. Should just be a few clips
Best to see if anyone's installed it, though, since I've read it's pretty easy to crack/break off tabs on some of these CF goodies. You'll probably prefer to get advice and minimise your mishandling, so that the tabs are not wrecked.
That's a general, not specific observation and could well be wrong, just ask the seller how to get it on without breaking it! :) There may be a simple guide on the company's website too.

If it was me...I'd have just whacked them on but Howie (who lives down the road) insisted that he take them apart to get the fog lights right!

First we had to cut off all the plastic welded tabs, after that lots of dremel work had to be done as both white and red lenses are completely different in shape left and right.

Howie 'plastic welding'.

Ahh, memories... I swear I inhaled way too much melted plastic fumes doing mine - and now they're gone!
Are they installed yet? It only took me 15 mins the 2nd time I changed mine over... though a few minutes of that was retrieving the bolt I dropped inside the boot trim (twice).
Nope not yet, waiting for Howie to finish the job! :)

He did have to drive!!!
Update: Being the one that works from home (apparently because I work from home I can do the washing too) I took Suga's car in for a service to Top One Automotive (dash warning was getting annoying!).
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5122/5367560483_7efd8dfe2f_o.jpg
Hmmm, the Kreissieg could do with some TLC under there!
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5124/5367561217_9f06710326_o.jpg
Errors! Our cars are such PC's these days. Scary shit. Software was upgraded, it picked up that we put the paddles on, that we had a central locking issue with passenger door not opening the 1st time button was pressed (twice we've had it) and a few other small things which were all cleared, no problems.
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5209/5368170802_cbd9fe21df_o.jpg
Front tyre inners were so worn that chunks were coming off the very edges. Dedy was concerned about this so he told me to go see Doug Heasman at Heasman's after the service. Always a pleasure to catch up with Doug. He said there's nothing wrong with the alignment, he see's this kind of wear all the time on cars that aren't driven hard and fast enough! Some food for thought for the techy guys out there.

Poor Kreissieg is rusting up! SUGA has been neglected for a while as I don't drive often anymore, Dave will be around this week to give her a much needed clean (there is tree sap all over the car!).
AND.. apparently there has been a bird living in my engine bay evident by a whole heap of bird crap! lol

Front tyres will be rotated left to right ASAP (JDMyard now have a tyre machine everybody!). And no bull guys. There was a heap of bird poo on the inside of the engine under tray. No bird/s to be found though haha!

You sure it was a bird and not the chirping noise of the tyres as they broke traction between gear shifts? Maybe that is why they are worn the way they are.

John I've yet to get this car to lose traction!
Small update. Christina got the entire car covered in sap a few weeks ago parking under a large tree in Eastwood, despite a wash the sap stayed on so we thought we'd leave it up to the experts and today Dave from Reflect Effect came over today to polish SUGA.

Only joking with you mate. Agree very hard to lose traction on the R32 but a chipped and modded pogo is another beast altogether.
