Greetings One and All,
Okay so currently my ride is running APR Stage 1 ECU Tune.
She is a Mk V GTi DSG.
I am kinda torn at the moment as to what to do next. Have my heart set on the APR Quad Tip Full Exhaust system from the turbo back including downpipe.
$3100 fitted by Europeanautotech with Derek. Is this the best mod to do now? Ie. Performance worthwhile?
I love the look of the Quad Exhaust!!
I would definately also be looking at some form of induction system, maybe the Forge TwinTake? I think Rennenhaus has them for like $700?
I look forward to some of you Gurus out there for some guidance and recs....
Muchas Gracias!
>D
Twin take + APR TBE
Then upgraded HPFP and APR Stage 2
>D
I'm trying to find some dyno figures of the APR TBE apart, from the hugely awesome styling of the quad tips you will get a pretty decent performance boost as well.
Just can't remember the figures off the top of my head.

For performance you have pretty much the right idea. Turbo back will give you a little extra, same goes for forge twintake(throttle response good :) )
Do you still have the stock d/v? Might give due to the extra boost.
I like that quad tip as well, just too pricey for me :S

Upgrade the DV to a revision D piston
Upgrade the PCV valve to revision F (not strictly necessary but good this is prone to failure on tuned cars)
Forge TWINtake
APR Torque Arm Insert
APR Downpipe
APR High Pressure Fuel Pump (change the cam follower as well IMO) and get it with Stage 2 remap
With the exhaust, i knwo ur smitten about the looks, but check out some out some youtube clips of some other exhausts other pple have. Only reason why I say this is because 3100 is a lot of coin....
then once you're done with the power side of things, you might want to look at sway bars and coilovers
straight after the APR tune, i got an intake. I personally replaced the OEM parts which were prone to fail to better/stronger ones (e.g the piston DV upgrade) and did the suspension first. THEN i considered getting full Turbo back.

@Cam, that was basically my road map so to speak.
@Jacques & Stephen, my Mk V is the last of the mohicans in that shape MY09, so would VeeDub have updated the DV or this something totally aftermarket anyway??
Also excuse my ignorance but what is the PCV Valve? I googled and got as far as figuring out it has something to do with allowing the turbo to breathe better? Am i on the right track here???? :icon_neutral:
Also found this thread for the PCV Valve replacement, is it something i can do myself?

Thanks guys. As i expected the info and feedback is what i am after... Keep it coming!!

Id go for a simpler intake like the evoms, bsh or awe one.. Id also shop around on exhausts 3100 is crazy
To get quad tipped exhaust you will need to modify your rear bar so that's a bit of extra money you should be accommodating for, exhaust and tune is a Stage 2 in the 'APR' ranking system which I think is pretty decent amount of power through the front wheels. I would be getting solid brushes (anti lift kit), sways and possibly better tires and/or suspension

Agree, I'd get a normal intake and they would be cheaper too.
How much Is a full milltek TBE, woulnt be that much cheaper ?

Keep in mind guys that the APR Full exhaust is Turbo Back and does include the Downpipe in that price anyway...
I guess when you think about it though it is pretty pricy but APR is proven quality after all right?? So wouldnt that piece of mind entertain that fact of spending that few extra $$$$ on it?
@Bwen, yeah I know but then its a good excuse for me to get the OSIR DTM Rear Valance, thats also part of the reason for wanting that exhaust system! :D

Dont get caught up with all the APR hype mate, itll save you a lot of pennies if you dont. Theres plenty of good quality exhausts out there that wont break the bank to that extent.
I'm not sure bout the Milltek rig isnt Ian doing a group buy atm? Might be worth a look.. One thing for sure tho the milltek tips look a lot better than the apr ones.. I guess if you want quads there arent many other options?

Pair of tin snips did the trick with my bar :)

Big money doesn't always equal better choice. The extra money you spend on all the APR gear might give you a gain of say 10-15hp extra at the wheels (I'm assuming) So unless you want to chance maximum power out of your car other options are just as good if not better. Don't be afraid to go the custom exhaust route, could cost you half the price and you can get exactly what you want from exhaust system; free flowing, maximum performance and sound or something in between. Just make sure you go to a reputable exhaust workshop.

@Bwen... I definately agree on biggest $$$ doesnt always equal better choice. Will definately be looking into a custom exhaust system. Now just gotta find one around the sydney area.
Anyone out there got any idea? Anywhere around sydney....
Jacques i was looking at previous thread you had for your TBE exhaust. Where did you get that one done?? I remember you saying you nearly got an extra 13kw atw??? Massive increase!!!!

I was comparing the MK6 GTI exhausts, and saying that the APR RSC TBE is heaps more expensive isn't quite true as it's only $220 more than the Milltek TBE race system (looking at the RRP for both). Group buy just finished, so keen to see if anyone picked one up.
Maybe there is a bit more choice around for the MK5 GTI now.. but just have to decide how far to go, stage 2 tunes are free with APR so I'll prob get the RSC (stage 2 doesn't require a fuel pump on the MK6 so will save a bit there).
technopato there are a fair few options just have to find what suits - after a stage 1 tune I'd get a TBE (and maybe intake) then maybe look at some handling/traction mods.

Ok here goes my shot!
If you want to go custom quad it costs around 2,700 from hitech mufflers. Could have changed.
Custom dual is 2,300. Once again could have changed!
My exhaust that I have came from brissy made by TCP auto! Apparently it's very similar tof the milltek. Fits perfectly, no alterations.
Yes it did give me 13kw. :D. I got it from Tony bear. He is tbear on here, he's on my friend list if u can't find him. You'll need to ask him for a price but guaranteed it costs half of the apr!
Seeing as ur close to me I can always give you a looksy on weekend.

Thats gay you have to buy APR parts to get a free tune.. I dont think anyone said the APR exhaust was heaps more expensive than the Milltek, I wouldnt expect it to be I know the Milltek is pricey.. Just an example, I never thought there was anything wrong with the xforce exhausts.. I'm pretty sure a I priced a turbo back for around the 1400 dollar mark a while back and they definitely have a very nice note.

Bang for buck XForce are pretty good, I haven't heard of anyone getting one installed on a GTI though? I wouldn't mind hearing a soundclip

Funny that.. The Milltek exhausts are also done by Derek at Europeanautotech, i may give him a buzz and see what he thinks.
Though i wonder if I go down the Milltek road will an APR tune work with it and would he do the APR tune free of charge? LOL>>>>>>> pushing my luck a little i know. But if youre dropping that kinda coin you do want to feel as though youre getting some form of bargain right???

I dont think GIAC does? using whatever parts you want..
How much does APR charge for stage 2 if you dont use their specific parts?

That Xforce exhaust note isnt too bad.. Though i have heard the APR Quad and to be honest it sound a lot better than that, a slightly deeper growl than that..
As for cost of Stage 2 Tune with APR withouth Hardware upgrades, i would say it would be the cost of getting an extra program so possibly around $300. I am going to speak to Derek next week and try to get some firm answers.
I am pretty psyched now since Europeanautotech does both the Milltek and APR, will be good to get a firm opinion..
