MK1s are one of my favourite retro cars, if I wasn't into Datto's I'd definately have one as my weekender. Hopefully one day I'll buy one to build as a slow project if I have the time/space/money

I think its a MK1,Ive never really been told or asked what the difference between a MK1 to a Mk2 is.

Easiest way to tell is the rear lights;
MK1: The lights are lower down and square or rectangular. The fuel cap is on the outside where as on a MK2 its behind a flap. They usually have a chrome or plastic strip running down the side where MK2's don't.

MK2: Has more triangular lights which wrap around to the side. Also MK2's have a sort of swage line behind the rear window and they are bigger.

Early MK2's are closer in looks to late MK1's because they had similar bumpers but later models had bigger bumpers.

I think its a MK1,Ive never really been told or asked what the difference between a MK1 to a Mk2 is.

Mk2 front quarter panels look a bit boat like, Mk1s look like perfection! Easily the best shape of all the Golf generations IMO. :p

The MK1 is more of a delicate shape but the MK2 is more butch & manly.
With the MK2 VW refined & perfected the MK1's lines :p

Yep, Yep makes sense his built some awesome cars, aswell as that jpeg his got of him and his mates lifting the mk1 and him pulling out the engine without a crane.

Didn't he give the mk1 to his wife or made it for her? Its been quite a while since I went into the mk1 section on vortex.

You obviously don't know your BBS's then. They come reverse mounted, they're a racing wheel and set up like that to for cooling purposes. Look at the wheels of a lot of DTM cars from the 80's and you'll see them set up like that. You can still order them straight from the factory set up in the same way. I Do agree they look a bit poop with no dish and they do look better with more dish;
