this is my 2008 5 door GTI with DSG

she has the following mods, Bluefin Stage 1, DEFI boost gauge in the OSIR pod, genuine 18inch BBS CH's, pirelli P-Zeros, genuine R32 tails, full colour code, parrot car phone, Inpro smoked mirror signals, BSH mounts, betronics STI-R driver radar detector (theyre legal in WA >D), whiteline RSB with Neuspeed endlinks and the revision D diverter valve upgrade.

it has run a 13.9 1/4 mile @ 98.9mph which im pretty proud of considering the relativerly conservative mods.

in regards to future mods i dont plan to do anything else. its exactly the way i want it !

looks great Mark!
I'm in the same boat - done with any further mods on my GTI.
I've gorged and now I'm satisfied :)

Nice! I so want a white GTI but I just can't bring myself to spending the cash on it right now. If they drop to $25k I'd be all over it in a curry.

Yay another CW has joined the family!

Looks great Mark.
Are you happy with the Bluefin tune? Roughly what sort of figures (on paper) does the stage 1 bump the GTI up to?

I was considering a colour code for mine, but there are too many rough roads that I have to drive on. It would be ruined in no time with all the stones and gravel.

Love the interior shot Mark...is that with the OEM interior lights?

Cam, yeah mate im stoked with it! theres such a nice kick in the ass when the boost builds up, it no longer feels so linear. i think they quote 240ish hp which is on the more conservative side compared to other tunes. however what was the seller for me was the ability to load on and off the tune for dealer visits. also the price of bluefin cannot be beat!

as for the colour code, yeah paint chipping is a concern and its got a couple little nicks but its nothing my little bottle of touch up paint cant fix. the colour code only cost me $350 because i am mates with the panel shop that did it so when it gets really knackered i'll just have it repainted!

Steve, its just looks odd because of the long exposure shot. the interior lights are all OEM

colour-coded ftw =)
i know you don't wanna do anything else but lowering it would make it look alot better!
great car, enjoy it!

zz2
02-03-2010, 08:32 PM
i agree Paolo however lowering it would open a world of potential warranty issues for me. also i want to sort out the clunking coming from the front end before i do anything else. so far 2 dealers have no idea what the hell is wrong

well..there's a thought.

See Mark...I told you that you were checking the wrong rack.

Thanks for the write up!
I'm considering the bluefin over APR/GIAC purely because I want that option of being able to remove it myself (no independent specialists around where I am...so if something breaks I'm about 3 hours away from help lol) although I really do like the the power that APR puts out.

I love the stock power of the GTI but a little grunt up top would be nice. I think bluefin will be the go.

Cheers Mark!

happy to help Cam!

last time i checked bluefin was selling for around $800 AUS delivered from the UK. the shipping only takes a week.
also even although the gains may not be as much as APR or GIACs figures beleive me it still transforms the car. its still bloody quick!

Bringing up on a old thread. I think I actually got the same clunking problem as you. I thought orignaly changing the stock suspension to coilovers would have fixed it but no still there.

Can you describe the clunking a little more.

Mine is normally happens at more than half turn both left and right. It has done it when I'm going in reverse as well. I can actually feel somthing on the dead pedal.

hey mate, sorry for the late reply.

basically its a cluck (never more than 2 in a row) that i get when turning into a hard left corner or when reversing into a carparking bay with a good degree of left steering.

it almost sounds like a crack/ clunk. ive already had my front suspension checked and steering rack replaced and ive done that passat subframe bolt upgrade already but still nothing. im starting to suspect its something like the exhaust fowling on something.

its gotten to the point now where its pissed me off enough not to care. ill only be worried when my wheel falls off haha

Mark, have you tried putting a circular rubber pad between your springs and the top plate aperture? Let me get the pic I have @ home and post it here

zz2
24-05-2010, 01:16 PM
i thought it might of been a case of the tug and release issue... so maybe my strut top bearings are stuffed? but i am running stock springs and dampers still?

Jig
24-05-2010, 01:20 PM
I thought it was the strut top bearings too at one stage and I replaced them and it was still there. Yes, i know you are still on stocks but you replaced the steering rack which is apparently a common issue on stock springs and shocks. You got sways? are they interferring perhaps when you turn?

Mark, if you are in Sydney then would you been to catch up briefly? Keen to findout if you have the same problem as me. Definetly seems the like same problem as you.

zz2
24-05-2010, 02:12 PM
sorry Mike but im in Perth and im not heading to Sydney for the foreseeable future.

Jig, the only suspension mod im running is a rear sway bar. but i have uprated my torque arm mounts to BSH ones.. cant see that being an issue here though

oh i forgot to add i also get the clunking noise under hard acceleration from stationary.

this issue has really got me stumped.

Indeed.

Anyway, just sharing a pic here which solved my tug-n-release problem. Refer to the black arrow pointing to where this circular rubber pad is installed. This may not solve your problem but if your stumped, it wont hurt to try.

and on Saturday the 21st of May 2011 at 12.45pm, the zz2's GTI journey ends.

the new proud owner drove her out of my driveway and up street.

so long old friend, you have been the best car ive ever owned and you will be missed. i take comfort knowing i will still see you parked near my work as your new owner has his office near mine.

however its now time to move on…
