A local VW service centre has quoted me $400 for the 15000km service. Anyone else out here think that's a rip? I remember the first service to be an oil change and checks.

Yup, a rip. Go independent and pay $150-200 for labour, oil & filter

Independent seems to be the way to go these days even in politics

I had always thought $400 for a minor service is fairly average. Perhaps it's simply because Mini's are expensive to service?

Guess it works out similar however as it's quite far between services.

What are the average charges for a Major and a Minor VW Golf GTI service?

at vw gti and r32 service is the same price.

and yes it is a rip. Only because the service is once a year. When i had the mx5, it was every 6 months, and it like around $200, same price but 2 services.

Thanks for the reply mate.

Are there set prices for Basic and Full Services? Or do dealerships simply charge whatever they like?

Sorry about the noob questions. I've never owned a VW before! http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/9.gif

Seems ok compared to some of the prices I've been quoted down south. I know they aren't the same service interval but its nearly exactly the same in essence.

30,000km GT Sport Service - Southern Classic quoted $575
90,000km GTI Service - Southern Classic quoted close to $600

Ended up paying $395 from the new VW yard that has just opened. Been quoted roughly the same price for my 90k service too.
There are no independent Euro specialist down south that I know of, so it makes it a bit hard for me.

By all means though, I reckon you should go independent Johno.

Guess 400 sounds right from the dealer. It's all tax deductable for me anyway.

FYI, Dealers and most quality independents do take time to do more than an oil and oil filter change for a year service, even a 15,000K service. Yearly service comprises of many check points and other recommended adjustments. A $150-$200, 15,000 Km R32 service may be available somewhere as is at Ultratune, but as with anything, you often get what you pay for.

I called all around sydney and Neapean motor group came up the cheapest (by $80-$100 and $180 in on instance) for the 15k service on mine. That was just over a month ago.

I would be very wary of Ultratune. You really do get what you pay for.

I once watched a Toyota Yaris get it's full service while waiting for some exhaust work to be done at a Muffler shop next door. Their 100 point check took the bloke about 2 whole minutes, followed by ticking of the checklist for 30 seconds. He then jumped in the car and drove a circle in the carpark for a total of about 40 metres? He then locked the car and ticked it off.

The whole service took a whole of 5 minutes. True story. http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/23.gif
