Has anybody had this installed in their mk6?
i didn't opt for the factory fitted ipod kit as i read bad reviews on it and that the ipod is locked when in use.
seems with the connects2, you can still control the ipod, have full control over it via the HU and steering remote buttons
If anybody does have it, i would like to know your thoughts on it.
Currently i just use the aux in, but would prefer to have control over the ipod via the factory stereo and to be able to see the songs on the screen

John,
I have just got my 2010 Golf GTD with Bluetooth integration and MDI ipod interface. It works like a treat! I have sold my Lexus and it was okay with integration but the GOLF is awesome with the MDI cable. It works seamlessly with a 3rd gen iPod and it shows all playlists, artists etc. Everything you see on the ipod itself.
The ipod itself is locked when in use but the the touchscreen controls are a replica of what you see on the ipod screen. You can see the songs on the screen and artist and album. In short, A LOT of info. I am really happy with it. I'll try and get some screen shots tomorrow and post them in this thread.
Regards,
Ben

Forgot the connects2. It's all about the dension gateway 100.
The whole MFD becomes the iPod screen and you can access/control everything.
They can be had for $300 and if you know how to use a screwdriver you can install it yourself

Nah dude but that doesn't matter b/c you can route the iPod cable to the glovebox or the centre console etc. Plus it comes with a 3.6mm audio connection too.

thanks for the replies guys
looking at the pricing for a good ipod interface kit and bluetooth, i think i'll just go a complete aftermarket unit that has it all, sat nav, bluetooth and full speed ipod connectivity.

as an interim measure, i purchased a 32 gig sd card card and i must say it works a damn treat.
have ripped 40 cd's on it so far an only 3 gig taken up.
reads all folders just fine.
ah well back to ripping as many cd's as i can now :)

Just to drag up an old topic, the Dension Gateway 100 is BRILLIANT with a MkV Golf (and the RCD300 or RCD500). A friend has one and the ability to navigate through the menus on the MFD with the steering wheel controls is fantastic.
BUT on a MkVI Golf with a RCD310 or RCD510, it is nowhere near as good. With these units, the Gateway 100 can only display track information on the MFD and the only control you have with the steering wheel buttons is to skip to the next or previous track. All navigation must be performed via the head unit.
I have just had this confirmed by an email from Dension's support after trying to figure out how to enable navigation with the steering wheel controls and MFD. Needless to say, I am less than totally satisfied with the product.
I cannot comment on how the Dension products work with the RNS-510
