Sell it to me...

*Jedi mind trick*

...CHEAP!

In all seriousness, looking for a cheap one, not fussed about the transmission, doors, colour or km's so long as it's been looked after mechanically. Appreciate it if you guys kept an eye out for me. Budget: Looking for a bargain at $25k, will stretch it to $28k for a 3 door (dreaming? Happy to wait until May if I have to for the prices to come down).

If its of any help, I got mine for $26k
So its not impossible to find a decent GTI with lowish kms for that sort of price.

But, they go quickly, very very quickly. I'll keep an eye out on carsales and other sites for you.
Hopefully something will come up
:)

It was luck to be honest.
It had been advertised for about 2 weeks, but the owners email/mobile phone wasn't working during that time. So he probably had countless numbers of inquiries about it but he didn't get any of them. One night we got through to him and from there everything just worked out really well.

Also watch out for incorrectly advertised cars (as paulo mentioned).
A lot of manual GTI's that were advertised were actually DSG, some of them advertised in NSW were actually in QLD, and some of them weren't GTI's at all but GT sports and GT's (even then, heaps of people were advertising their car's as 2.0TDI GT sports when the photos actually showed it was a 1.4L petrol GT)

Paolo - yeah saw that one and it looks dead in the pics alone (lol). I'm chasing a guy with a silver 3 door at $31500k. I have him at 30k and have offered him cash if he sells it to me at $28k. He outright said no. DAYM!

You should see more MKV's being sold in the next few months when shipments of MKVI GTI's hit the shore.

It was funny, the man I bought mine from didn't really want to get rid of it. He had ordered a new MKVI GTI. He actually said if he could have he would have kept both but he didn't have any room!

I was even told in the local dealership more MKV GTI's would become available. Some people just cant resist upgrading.

Low ballin' like there's no tomorrow! I've managed to get a clean low km's GT down to $28k too, not bad but I can't help but think $2k more gets me a GTI (potentially).

Sorry Justin but I love my car too much to sell it hehe.

I contemplated getting a GT sport, there was a nice silver one with low kms, 2.0 TDI manual with sunroof (which are very rare)
But I held out for the GTI because its that little bit more special. The seats, sports steering wheel, gear knob (little things) all add the extra spice to it.

Stick to your guns J....go for a GTI - 2k is not much of a price difference, it will pay off in terms of ''potential tuning''

Put this in the other thread, so it may not have been seen, but there are a couple of GTIs under $30K

So Justin, not sure if you've seen these but here they are in case:

2006 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF V GTI (http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8275281&__Qpb=true&Cr=&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1|| pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__N=834 1216 1247 1282 1252 1246 4294962746 4294962677 1558 898 414 4294927728&SearchAction=N&silo=1011&PriceTo=414&CT=Compare&__Nne=15&__sid=1251AF542DA6)
Looks pretty good, manual, 5 door in black - $25K with 103K on the clock

2006 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF V GTI (http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?R=8399656&__Qpb=true&Cr=&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1|| pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__N=834 1216 1247 1282 1252 1246 4294962746 4294962677 1558 898 414 4294927728&SearchAction=N&silo=1011&PriceTo=414&CT=Compare&__Nne=15&__sid=1251AF542DA6)
Again from the pics looks clean, can seea slight gutter rash on one of the shown rims, but looks good. Manual in Shadow Blue, which is nice, and only 47K on the clock. They however want $29,900 so it may be out of you budget.

Yeah all over these. I'm not getting replies from a lot of people on carsales. I've most likely upset them with my low-ball offers!

Justin.. check again, the seller seemed to just update the page.

good deal imo..

Never driven the 1.6 before.. spec wise doesn't look good for spirited drive. Heard a driveby from a golf 2.0FSI with aftermarket exhaust.. sounds sweeeeeettt...

Not many GTI's under 30k when I looked (maybe two) but happy searching!

They're dropping fast G-rig.

I am on carsales right now, NSW (more expensive than any other state) and there are 12 MKV GTI's for sale under $30k. 12!!! DSG ones too and very low km's (one at 37,500kms).

They're dropping harder and harder by the week at this stage.

I'm ready to pounce! I just need to sell the Skyline first. It's a race. My 20inch custom SSR rims come in from Japan in May for the Skyline, if they make it before I sell the car I've got a feeling I'll be keeping the Skyline for a while before buying a golf.

How about a trade?

G-rig
17-03-2010, 08:23 AM
I would try and get an 07 or newer so you can extend the warranty if desired (depends on build date of course). The DSG would be an expensive thing to fix and the cost of a lower km GTI vs 06 model etc may not be much.

Cheers,

Justin Fox

Agreed on the DSG and extended warranty G-rig. Owning a VW (or any other European car out there) out of warranty kinda scares me a little.

Tendy: I was only offered $15k for the trade in on a MK6 GTI at Barloworld, that's ridiculous, but I expected that.

My 1997 A4 cost me a fortune, but was a bit of bad luck from the previous owner letting it go (bought it from a mate) and also shouldn't have taken it to the stealers to get the work done. V-dubs should be a little bit better and haven't been too many major problems but does scare you a bit as you pointed out!

The pain! I will ask around.

i was looking for a low kms and low price one before... but after hearing that 4 year service and only 3 year warranty i went for a relatively new one instead... the mk5 still keep their value quite well.

I can't believe mk5 with 80-100000km are only 12k less than new price. for any other cars it would be much less.

anyways good luck
