After being inspired by Frenchie's Capristo Valve Tronic Cat Back Exhaust, I decided to follow suit.

Below is a youtube video I captured fresh from the hoist 2 days ago. As Frenchie says, and I will confirm, this exhaust is something else and yes, you have heard it so many times, takes it to another level. The Capristo exhaust sound I believe is opened up a lot more with the ABT Sportsline Supercharger.

Thanks to Thomas from Ramspeed.com.au for sourcing the Capristo and installing it for me.

oh mah lord.
I usually wince my way through static revving clips, but that is a mental sound.
Another nice purchase, Jig :)

Thanks ya'll. The black smoke is expected when a new exhaust is fitted especially when you rev it that hard straight after the install. In fact I remember when I first fitted my supersprint and drove it off, there was so much smoke that the car next to me stared with disbelief. The smoke is no longer there but that new exhaust metallic smell is there still and give it a week or so and naturally will become odorless, well minus the CO2 of course.

The response on all modes is unbelievable also. I think the initial pedal to the floor and the push to the back of your seat experience is amplified by another 10%.

I will organize a drive by video once the weather settles down also.

Holy shit Jig that sounds awesome.. Damnit, i may have to keep my car and ge one, but just put the stock suspension back in. No dramas was going to take it out to do the strut top mounts anyway.

Pretty special R you got now!

Jig
04-03-2010, 12:07 AM
thanks G-rig. You should get one. Are your strut top mounts need replacing or are you doing it to remedy the tug-n-release sound. I finally took a picture of the circular rubber pad I had to put on the front sprint aperture. Let me post it up here and you can get it done as well on your SPC if you want still.

Thanks Mark. Yeah, it does look better with OEM tails on.

Hi Jig, definitely sounds awesome, i am still grinning from that clip.

May flog off the stereo gear then (or most of it) and can always get some suspension later again. Doesn't sound like the new R is heaps better (although would be faster).

It would have cost me to remove them to do the tug and release remedy anyway, so will still sell the coilovers to anyone who is keen.

Great Work on the R!

Hi Frenchie: yep. Configured the millibar as per Capristo's recommendation(same as yours). The Devil mode is devilish I must say. I think if I drove in this mode, I will be firing up car alarms... Its amazing, even with the Open/Devil mode there is just zero drone. Tell you what though Frenchie, the Supercharger really opens up this exhaust further. Lets catch up and you can drive my car and see for yourself.

I'd be interested to know the fuel consumption as well as mine is already 12-15 L/100 around town (more on short trips of if you really gun it).

Frenchie
04-03-2010, 02:28 PM
Mine was on 19L/100 for a while

bigwill

19L/100km!!! WHOA! thats heaps my average is 10-11L/100km.

I dont measure L/100 as I find it a bit pointless. I measure how often I have to fill up petrol. With the ABT Sportsline Supercharger my visit to the petrol station is exactly the same before my car was SC'd and these includes spirited fun. With the capristo however, I feel my trips to the petrol station will be every 1.5 weeks because my right leg keeps searching for that Capristo roar.

>D - hence my high fuel consumption..

I know the feeling Jig - it's an intoxicating sound !

G-rig
05-03-2010, 01:22 AM
That's fair enough Jig, mine can easily use 15L/100 around town (but the longer the trip the better it gets), seems like a lot if you watch the useage at the time.

I agree that fuel useage would be a non-event if you've come this far, and then the sound is amazing.

DeanCorp
05-03-2010, 01:23 AM
Greg, you will actually find when upgrading the exhaust, the fuel consumption will be lower. I definitely saw this with mine. I was driving on 9.2L/100 on the way home tonight.

I used to fill up a lot more with the milltek & airbox, so who knows.

Hate to think how much fuel my car would use with the Capristo, it must you more than stock due to the software retune i think.

Wonder if Thomas would want to swap some high end car audio gear for 1 x Capristo!!?

Hey Jig

Maybe when you're done with the Capristo, I can take it off your hands. Not sure I can wait for that to happen after hearing that. Still enjoying your SS though suffering a little exhaust envy.

Hi AP: nothing wrong with your awesome custom exhaust mate but if you must, you wont be disappointed... Did I say you wont be disappointed.

Chris32: Its scary to put down 6K for a cat back for a VW so you really need to think about it. You are more than welcome to take a ride in my car and see if this is what your after. I know I had to with Frenchie before I was sold on it. Good luck making that decision.

Jayc my man: The supersprint is a top exhaust. Cant fault it and added performance to boot. Like Germans, Italians know how to make great exhausts but I think with the valve tronic, it makes it that bit more special. Workmanship is just plain world class on the Capristo. Enjoy the SS for a while but I think this is my last exhaust project on my R32.

Just wondering how many km you would do then, and how many litres (assume 55L to clear it).

As you say, it would be worth it for the Capristo roar but would have to be over 20L/100 as mine is pretty average just with the retune/headers.

Cheers,

I usually average between 350kms - 370kms before I fill her up again every fortnight. I usually have around 40-50kms left on the tank before I fill her up.

Wow thats one thirsty car Jig :)

That's all city driving which is why the kms travelled are low within the 2 weeks after filling her up. Its a V6, so you'd expect that... My V8 was worse than the R32 so I'll take it anytime.

The Capristo systems are becoming more popular here in Australia. Just be careful that you get an exhaust specialist to install it for you, and that they don't rip you off in the process.

How do you think the Capristo compares to the Kreissieg for the R32? Which one is best???
