I have to say I am not a fan of this one, found it on VWWC, a guy from the US posted it. Hasn't improved the GTI at all, but hey he likes it and thats all that matters.

I know black is a bit more hard core but don't see the big attraction. You can't see the detail in the wheels and you may as well have cheapies on.

Yes it's the same car with different coloured wheels on both sides (something a few Honda guys do).

Black wheels rarely look great in photos, the eye can see a lot more in real life than photos and there's nothing quite like some hot black rims in real life. :cool:

You're probably right Justin, photos may not do black wheels any justice. I do like the R35 GTR wheels though and gun metal/silver looks more expensive but it's all personal taste.

When I first saw AP's BBS CH Blacks late last year at one the meets I couldn't stop staring at them. Love black rims.
Got a bit of a surprise coming for the MKIV actually. I'll post plenty of pics when they arrive.

I like the Black BBS as they look a bit more anodized/flat than just glossy black paint. Agree they look awesome. Particularly like Frenchies as the machined lip breaks up all the black.

That looks nice, the CH are really classy. Better than the slammed cars above as you could actually drive it LOL.
I wanted to keep my OZ as well, would have looked good but factory 18" are pretty nice and shitloads quicker to clean.

It's too easy for body kits to look like cheezy add-ons and detract from the car.

Don't mind the Kerscher one but is still a bit full on with the gills like a want-to-be Ferarri or Porsche.

Not sure but looks pretty good esp with the ride height and that blue is a nice colour.

You could ask on golfMK6 on the 5door thread.

I assume those are 19"? I'd have to go to 19's to justify that kind of upgrade since the OEM 18's are already very nice.

It would be a bit like an OEM+ exercise but still look like after market wheels. novelty may wear off if everyone gets them but are pretty hot. Alpil did a good job of ripping off that style.

Look a bit like BBS CH blacks with the polished lip. How much do they weigh? Black would look good on my car.

I think they're pretty heavy and being a 19" wheel that makes for a pretty rough ride too due to thinner profile tyres but hey, they look great! :cool:

What's the fascination with roof racks?

It's a trend at the moment and one that's hard to resist if you're into cars AND bikes (I had some on my beater Civic a while back). A long time JDMST member nailed it with this:

IMHO it comes from the vintage VW Bug scene.

For a very long time, the cool thing to do with resto Bugs is to track down vintage accessories from back in the day. So things like Hazet toolkits, window mounted coolers, period gauges, early 60s magnesium racing wheels, etc were hot items since the 1980s. And one of the vintage things everyone wanted were the roof racks that were available in the 1960s. AFAIK you can buy replicas now, but a real wooden vintage roof rack of the correct brand was the shizz.

So it was one of the "must have" items on your show Bug to have a vintage roof rack with vintage things on it like an oil can or suitcase.

Then I think the trend spread to Golfs that attended the same VW shows as the Beetle guys, then the Golfs got a lot of internet interest because they were usually unfeasibly slammed and along the way it morphed into Civics in the USA having 1980s vintage roof racks.

...which has morphed into the current scene cars having new roof racks.

There is a white Golf R in the local VW yard that is opening. I'm going to have a peek sometime this week. Yet to see one in the flesh.

That is a pretty incredible time if its completely bone stock.

Found out the car had a Stage 1 map and cat back exhaust.

I found it on APR's Flickr. I assume it's in progress as I can still spot what looks like stock seats and the foggies are still in so there's much more weight savings to be had considering it's a drag set-up.

Hmm might have to reattempt these pics again when I've got time.. might park away from the drain though

I've retouched the front shot in Photoshop but have yet to do the rear one. De-badged the tailgate (except VW badge of course) earlier in the week, I think it looks much cleaner. Will be putting aftermarket rims in the near future I hope..
