Now this may be a silly assumption, but do the talented photogrpahers on here use PS?

I just purchased PS CS4 Extended with my lovely Student discount, $200 is much nicer than the RRP, and am after some tips for its use.

I've managed to work out some of the basic concepts, B&W and the colour thing in the B&W photos, but have really no other idea how to use it.

I see some of the effects people have put on their photos and am very curious as to how they were achieved.

A basic thing would be the borders people throw around some pics, Frenchie for example, how do you achieve this effect?

Anyway just thought some people in here may have some tips for us beginners, given the number of artie types, and that maybe others would be interested in getting some tips too.

Hah! My simple approach for putting borders would be to resize the picture in MS Paint then copy paste onto a black (insert desired colour border here) background.

I am in the same boat - was looking at doing a Pshop course as it can be quite overwhelming.

All my editing etc are from trial and error.

In saying that we have a handful of experts on this forum that will input their knowledge.
Youtube has some great tutorial esp if you are a visual learner like I am.
Though to answer your question -

Using ‘Stroke'
Using the ‘stroke' command in Photoshop. To do this, begin by selecting the entire photo (Select>>All), then choosing the stroke command (Edit>>Stroke). You'll be asked to choose how wide you want the border to be in pixels, as well as what color. The more pixels, the wider the border will be. I usually stick to one to five pixels wide.

Please use thread ''Photoshop 101'' (http://www.vwgolf.net.au/showthread.php?227-The-Official-Photoshop-101-Thread)for everyone to input their skills and knowledge.
