Not to sure yet Rob, I want to do the wheels and suspension first but if a good price comes up on the Haldex, I wont say no. Maybe we should look into a haldex group buy, get 5 of us together and see what kind of deals we can get.

Nice looking wheel Rob, good choice :).
Some people may think you got a new R, lol.
Thanks G, It is a new R, it just sounds 100 times better and is 100 times sexier :P
Nice set up Rob.... How are the brakes.... I'm upgrading and interested...no doubt they stop ...but how are they for noise and dust???
Thanks mate. The brakes are great. I LOVE THEM. The stock ones were really really touchy, these have a bit of cushion on them then they come in. High speed to low speed they are great, low speed to stop sometimes is a bit scary haha (first time you drive with them they are like that).
Noise 0 Dust 0
I can see the difference of dust on my wheels. The fronts have hardly any dust, the rears are covered in dust.
I have to upgrade my rears, now that everyone can actually see the rotors. :D

hey rob! nice pics mate! those silver mirror caps really do change the whole look of the car. Very audi-ish and a nice subtle mod! looks the goods!
regarding the whiteline sways, did you install it with the bushes that came with it? Because from what I've heard, pple who have bought the whiteline sways almost always complain about the squeaking and creaking and that it needs to be oiled to stop the noise from happening on a constant basis, which is why they usually upgrade to the teflon bushes the H&R sways come with as stock?
Just to give you a heads up mate in case you didnt know :)

mate I'd say yes, but I think it's a personal preference, some do it for looks, others for the practical heat reduction side of things. In the end its not all that expensive and can be removed with no damage so if you go ahead and hate it you can just take it off later
Tint.
Not as dark as Kev's though. Otherwise you'll have to drive around all the time with the windows down like he does so he doesn't get booked (joking kev :p)

Do I keep my wheels like this?

Or do I gloss black some zolders and put them on my car?

Or do i gloss black my current wheels? (RS6 wheels)
Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions
Looks good with the brushed metal contrast, Rob. It's all up to you but if you colour code one thing you might as well consider doing it all - wheels, grille surround and mirror caps.
That's cosmetic stuff to consider after you've got the car performing how you want it to. :)
I like the wheels on your car better than the alternatives you've mentioned.

Haldex GenII, H&R Sway bars & Coilovers give you that or at least improve the handling over stock. Still nose heavy but personally thought the car feels a lot more balanced after the haldex upgrade went in.

There not cracked Rob.
There- In or at that place.
Their- a form of possessive case.
They're- contraction of they are.
Keeping in mind the information you have just gathered, what would be the appropriate word to use in your sentence? How does someone who appears to not have even finished school afford what I can see being a MKV TDi 2.0 and MKV R32? Better yet, why have you jacked Rob32s' username?!
Anyway, back to what I came here to answer.
Im still looking to make the car feel 'awesome' around the corners so if you have some suggestions could you please share.
You're simply in the wrong car for the 'Awesome' around corners experience, i own a MK4 R32 which are lighter than the MK5s (though the chassis isn't quite as good) and I can admit it's never going to be a demon in corners, it is great, don't get me wrong, but will never be what i'd classify as 'Awesome' (Porsche territory is 'Awesome'). VW have done their best to keep weight in these things well balanced, hence using their VR6 engine design to allow the cylinders to run on 1 cylinder head and allowing the engine to be run sideways, bringing it closer to the firewall etc etc etc; What you still have is a significantly weighty engine which is substantially over the front end due to the struts being connected very close to the firewall. And in the grand scheme of things, it is a fairly heavy car.
In terms of mods, you're off to a good start, I've done Rear sway, kumho KU36s, KW coils and uni brace, and while a lot of the understeer has been eliminated, it is still present at times, and I'd be very interested to see the gains from a Haldex. Though in my opinion a good set of coil overs should most definitely be on your shopping list next, something like KW V2s or higher would be the way to go! You're going find your GREATEST handling improvements in these imo. Possibly even a UNIbrace just to tie up that rear end a little more and prevent flex. Even though I don't believe in tampering with weight distribution too much, I can only see a rear battery relocation and carbon hood doing big favors for it.
I wouldn't get too wound up worrying about making it the perfect track machine, sure the handling mods make it a lot of fun, but appreciating it for its little comforts, exhaust note and general cruising comfortableness is the best thing you can do for them. =]
Lovely car, by the way. The RS6 wheels look great, ever considered blacking them out? ;-P

Put up your thoughts on the Haldex upgrade when you get a chance!
Thanks Seph, Im glad you like it because I know you have good taste in cars :P I actually have some pictures of your car on my phone from when you did a photo shoot with a couple other members.
Thoughts on the Haldex Upgrade....
I really want to give it lots of praise but new it costs over $1K and its not a massive difference to what it used to drive like.
However I did already have the rear sway bar installed before I got this so maybe I can't feel such a big difference because of the RSB.
There is a difference and you can feel it even with the sway bar but its not a dramatic difference.
When launching the car it definitely gets off the line quicker and you can feel the rear wheels pushing you forward.
Its also lots of fun to have when on a tight twisty road, if you get the gears right when in a hairpin for instance you can get the rear to come out (ESP OFF).
But when cornering through normal corners the car does feel really good and stable. It is hard for me to get the car to understeer now which is great!
There is a T intersection (NO Stop Sign) where you can see if there are cars coming from the left and right, and at this intersection I can go into the corner at a high speed and the car will no joke just turn and go (ESP ON).
So it is great but Im not sure if it is worth the $1k+
Your welcome to have a test drive of my car if you want to see the difference for yourself.
Very sexy ride you got there rob! I agree on some v3 coils bro if you want some more cornering joy

Haha mate I totally agree with you. The whole time I read your message I was nodding my head.
When I said I want it to feel awesome around the corners, I meant awesome for an R32, I want it to be the best it can be at going around those bends, bare in mind I don't have loads of cash to throw at the car so I won't be buying anything too drastic to make it feel like a porsche when it never will be a porsche.
In terms of mods, you're off to a good start, I've done Rear sway, kumho KU36s, KW coils and uni brace, and while a lot of the understeer has been eliminated, it is still present at times, and I'd be very interested to see the gains from a Haldex. Rear Sway bar was definitely one of the best mods I've done, I can't believe how much of a difference it made! Do you know if having a FSB makes much of a difference? I am definitely looking for coilovers but I don't know which ones I really want to get, but finally when I choose I start thinking and saying to myself, is it really worth it? The car goes alright now, Stock height isn't that bad, and the process then repeats itself haha.
Do you find when you go over potholes whilst turning that the back kind of slips out after having your RSB put in? Wouldn't the UNIbrace make that worse by stiffening the rear up even more?
I can't see myself going down that path of a carbon bonnet or changing the battery, to me thats unnecessary.
I wouldn't get too wound up worrying about making it the perfect track machine, sure the handling mods make it a lot of fun, but appreciating it for its little comforts, exhaust note and general cruising comfortableness is the best thing you can do for them. =]
Im not intending it to be the perfect track machine, I just want it to surprise people with how well it handles. My whole aim so far has been to make the car look feel and perform like it should have when it came out of the factory and of course highlighting the good things about the car.
Lovely car, by the way. The RS6 wheels look great, ever considered blacking them out? ;-P
Thanks mate, I appreciate the comments. I have and I even asked the forum for there opinions and they replied with a big fat DONT DO IT haha

Rear Sway bar was definitely one of the best mods I've done, I can't believe how much of a difference it made! Do you know if having a FSB makes much of a difference?
The front is going to make it feel a lot tighter through the corners, tightening the roll up on the front and rear of the car, however doing your front sways larger than your rears is only going to bring that understeer back, just at a higher threshold.
I am definitely looking for coil overs but I don't know which ones I really want to get, but finally when I choose I start thinking and saying to myself, is it really worth it? The car goes alright now, Stock height isn't that bad, and the process then repeats itself haha.
I would most definitely say coil overs are a must. I guess it has to be seen/felt to be believed. As far as what to get, you can't go wrong if you go with something reputable i.e H&R, KW, Bilstein; though, even as a cheaper alternative, the steel bodied FK adjustable, there's no need to spend the extra money for stainless steel struts as we don't salt our roads as they do in other countries, therefore the corrossive resistant metals aren't necessary unless you live at the beach!
Do you find when you go over potholes whilst turning that the back kind of slips out after having your RSB put in? Wouldn't the UNIbrace make that worse by stiffening the rear up even more?
I guess it all comes down to the roads you're on, but as a direct effect of taking tolerances for rear body roll/flex it does. To me, it's not a BAD thing, i mean just about any car is going to behave poorly over a pothole mid-corner, i think the gains that are to be had from general stiffening of the struts/chassis can only be looked at as a good thing. But I guess peoples personal opinions/driving style and preference drastically alter this.
I can't see myself going down that path of a carbon bonnet or changing the battery, to me thats unnecessary.
Yeah rightly so, it was just an out there suggestion to try and achieve your goal.

Thanks for the positive feedback on our Photoshoots, they're always fun to do, and we are most definitely overdue for one.
Interesting to hear that you can feel the benefit in certain situations, but can't quite endorse the cost vs. benefit argument. Seems to be the consensus. May one day take your offer up on that test drive.
Cheers.

Do the exhaust PS3's are shit :D
If your after a performance tyre I'd also suggest looking at the new Bridgestones RE-11 :)
Haldex gen II is a worth wild investment on the track - you get the true benefit when the car is pushed above it's limits - which is a pleasure to read your not on public roads :)
When launching in a straight line you get the 'push' rather then 'pull' feeling!
Great build thread buddy, be interested to see which route you'll take with the coilovers as it's my next project too :)

LOL that Rob32r guy really is funny! he even got a close up picture of my number plate and had it up as his own on Facebook...
If you guys ever need another car in one of your photo shoots..... hit me up with a pm. Then you will be able to have a test drive :> (After September though because I don't get back to Aus until mid September haha)
Pretty tasteful for a young bloke.
Thanks mate >D hopefully I can make it more tasty soon.

Do you have the new Bridgestones RE-11's?
Reason why I want the PS3's is because I saw how good they are when I went on a GTG a while back. Benough had them on his GT Sport and even in the wet he was just gripped to the ground nothing could stop him!
It was pretty amazing to see.
I definitely have not taken the car to the very limit, yet, haha but I would like to go on a track day and see what the car is really capable of and also see how it reacts with the mods I have.
What big differences do you notice with the Haldex besides the launch?
Thanks, the more I think about the coilovers the more I'm leaning towards KWv3's or clubsports.
Go big or go home right?

Paid for 4, havnt been delivered yet - watch this quick Youtube video about them, you will see all the high HP cars come with them stock and they are tuned for the wet! Have a mate that put a set on his R after a week replacing the OEM dunlops

Able to dial out the understeer and turn up oversteer lol - went on a skid pan and had a blast!
Its usefull on the track as the car can enter and exit the apex without washing out the speed whilst keeping good accelaration - under hard breaking (stock) i found the car to be unbalanced at times, where with the Haldex its able to transfer the power to the rear to get a more solid lift (if that makes any sense).
Thanks, the more I think about the coilovers the more I'm leaning towards KWv3's or clubsports.

V3's or PSS10's is what im weighing up, clubsports may be overkill for my requirements - what are you looking for in a suspension setup?
benough
13-07-2011, 11:31 PM
IF you can't decide what you want re PS3 and PSS10's, just take a ride in both setups. I have V3's and I find them a bit more refined than PSS10's but annoying to tune.

I remember that! Camden cruise, wet and slippery as...yet benough's tractor stuck to the road really well. Was impressive to see the tyres in action.

OK I need the help of any owner who is running on Bilstein PSS10 coilovers.
Lets just say hypothetically I bought a set of PSS10's and was to install them on my R32, could any owner running on these coilovers tell me what settings they have set the coilovers to?

Yes I'm serious. The story is, I've been away for a while, these guys serviced my mums GT and dads Audi and my car needed its oil to be changed and the cruise is coming up on saturday and I've been busy this week so i called them up yesterday and asked if they could do the service, he said they are really busy but he will squeeze me in, then when i rocked up and had the coils in the boot he said we can try and fit them on now and they only got to do the front 2. ps i got there at 2:00pm and was out at 4:00

So what settings are you running all round on the coils now?
After the drive back home last night do you think they're better?
RobR32
27-01-2012, 05:36 PM
4 Front 4 Rear
For those that don't know. I wasn't liking the coil overs when i first got them installed. Lost all my confidence in the car as it was all over the shop.
I then changed the settings around and it felt a little bit better but wasn't great. Had rear on 7 and fronts on 5 don't ask why. Next was new tyres, that helped the cars handling a lot and i thought okay this must be as good as it will ever be. Wrong. Changed to 4 Front 4 Rear. What a difference. I told Cam i wouldn't go fast through this private test track we were on (lots of curves up a mountain) but after the first 2 corners i felt how well it gripped and i went harder and harder. Welcome back confidence and hello new and improved R32!
Getting that confidence back with suspension settings is bliss. It's even better when you have time on a track or a favourite strip of road to change it completely and see how the car reacts. Adjustable sway bars and other bits and pieces make it even more involved but rewarding.
Good news on getting your mojo back.
Thats awesome Rob.
I knew something wasn't 100% right when we did that Jamberoo cruise. The car just seemed unbalanced.
Its a good thing Kev is so handy with coils + suspension haha
Great news
