AFTER

Tried to take a door card off today & was a lil scared, Is there a secret to get these off without breaking them !
From what I can remember on my last Vr6, I dont think ill have much room to even apply much Dynamat anyway ?

I'd be looking at ones with damper adjustment, eg Bilstein's, kw v3(?). Just don't get the cheapest hot tuning or something, they are terrible for ride quality.

Love the stickers, 'filthiest' ha!

This is the most stupidest comment I have ever seen!

In all honesty you pay for what you get. If you go hot tunings they are good priced and are ok quality. If thats all your doing and not going track days or pushing the car this is fine.

If your going to go track go KW V2s, V3's on a mk3 is overkill and are worth more than your car! I am running V2's on mine and from the 6months that I was riding on them before I pulled the car off the road I was happy with it. Both rebound and hight adjustable but still not cheap. Cost me over $2000 and that was with mates rates in 07.

I've been in three different cars with hot tuning and the ride has been terrible in all. I went in a car with V3's and the ride quality was considerably better.

He said he wants a nice smooth ride, so I wouldn't recommend hot tuning at all. From my own experiences.

Sorry steve but i have to agree! Having ridden in your V2's, my koni's coilovers and rayray's hottunings its a clear difference. Hell my cup kit i had on my mk3 td was better than hottuning but in the end the bumpy ride would get to me.

Hottuning/vmaxx/racelands are only good for one thing and thats lowering!

Tim
15-10-2010, 11:40 PM
Hot Tunings ride ok. I think its just that every second person who has them winds them all the way down. Its then that they ride like arse.

peedman
15-10-2010, 11:50 PM
In the end i guess its what you can tolerate and i can tolerate noises and squeaks but not bumpiness.

Another alternative that not many ppl have tried in oz are the ST suspension which they say is similar/same as KW v1 but only galvanised steel instead of full stainless.

schoona
15-10-2010, 11:53 PM
I have JOM's which are a cheapie also and at a "normal" height they rode sweetly on the standard wheels.
At the moment its pretty low on different wheels and os is a bit crashy at times.
I would say that if I raise it up by ~10-15mm all round the car rides awesomely (relatively speaking) and is more comfortable/progressive than PSS in a MKV GTI, BC''s/Teins in Nissans etc...

In saying that when I re-do the car properly I will probably look at osmething like a V2...

Not really Pedro, ask Preeny about my mk1, how low was that car? possibly one of the lowest golfs ever in OZ... They were hot tunings and they were awesome, dailying those weren't a issue.

Found out its An aftermarket sunroof ! Thought ok thats what I was expecting but hes too busy,

Jump on watercooled and go through Mickeys VR6 thread (all 100+ pages of it) and find his headlining. He did it himself. As did Rayray (not sure if his is documented) but they both look mint, were done as DIY. Just need fine spray on glue and some cool material from Spotlight. And some patience!

I have seen mickeys build and the rood lining he did, great job.
unfortunately Its not that easy for me Being a aftermarket sunroof has made it hard.
(you really need to see it to understand)

The last upholster I went to see also said around $1000,he was very cool thoe gave me alot of ideas.

So its come down to me and my old man doing the job,We have come up with some ideas, but what I need to do is buy another MK3 Full roof lining and cut the hole for the sunroof fit it all in the way it should of been done.

So on the phone monday to the wreckers to try find one !

The old natural way of just leaving it out in the weather,Soaking it in water everyday speeds it up,But if you cant wait Hydrochloric acid does the trick.Ive done all these.

if you want to speed up the rust process, use hair peroxide mixed with vinegar and salt, brush it on and in 30seconds! BOOM! instant rust
looking very unique mate

interior bits lookin nice mate!

but i still dont get the whole rust look....isnt that kinda bad for the metal? i dunno, to me, a rusted car is a beat, old car not being taken care of. If that pic of the rust is of the bonnet, then to me it'd seem like a pretty hot looking black VR6 where the owner took care of every part of the car EXCEPT the damn bonnet! lol

but hey, maybe i'm just late to the party...who knws? it might end up growing on me :)

So spent the weekend putting my Coils in.
I end up getting hot tuning As im putting the car on Air next yr
why spend $1,500+ on coils when im going to spend $3500+ to put it on air in less then 6 months.
Im happy with the out come.

We installed the front first and once we started lowering the jack down realised we couldnt get the jack out so the old man came up with these lil rippers.
If theres any interest In wanting one of these I Can bring some down to day of the volkswagen.

16 Pin Harness is orderd HOPE I get it before friday !

Running the Main Power Round 2 !
( I prefer to do things myself so gave it another shot)
I run all my RCA + Remote wires down the passenger Side,
And run Power Down drivers Side.

You will have to lift this guard up.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn285/reece7000/VDUBIN/DSC_0910.jpg

I held my up using Scrap bit of wood.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn285/reece7000/VDUBIN/DSC_0911.jpg

Too the right of the tiny motor will be a Gromet You can see the red wire just
Take the gromit out and push your wire thru hole it will come out under your steering wheel. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn285/reece7000/VDUBIN/BigGromit.jpg

Drill hole thru Big Gromit make it a tight fit.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn285/reece7000/VDUBIN/DSC_0917.jpg

This is where your wire will come out (gromit) into the engine bay.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn285/reece7000/VDUBIN/redring.jpg

Again drill hole thru Gromit much more professional this way.

Got back from DOVW couple hrs ago,It Was awesome, great drive , nice weather very happy.
Within 2mins of parking my car Classic Restos wanted an interview first thing Fletch said to me,

"Mate, Ive gota ask about that bonnet" I just laughed, Ok sure.
So I done a lil interview on cam after driving 3 hrs,An interesting start to the day.

Also there was a couple of guys from here at the show, I got no idea whos who ??
living in the country is a bit lame when I comes to things like this I only really know ppls

Ive been ask by a couple people now, are you going to clear coat it.
Not once have I even considered giving it a clear coat,
I think it will give it that wet look all the time?

So far Every pic Ive seen of my car from dovw shows the bonnet in different shades.
Some bright rusty orange, others very dark rusty its sweet lol.
Im worried it will look the same all the time with a clear coat.
So at this stage no clear coat.

Mate also said wont the rain take the flowing effect of the rust away ..Hopefully not, time will tell i guess.

Rainy day.

Steelies !!! 16s

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn285/reece7000/steelies.jpg

Got couple Ideas for these at this stage.

1- Two tone colour (Centre one colour lip a different colour)
2- Sand blast, then rust them....
3- Crome plate them.
4- Burnt orange colour as close to rust as possible.
5- Very bling idea will see if its even possible yet.

Got no idea on what tyres too use (help plz), & no doubt the arches will have to be rolled.

Black lips orange centres or vice versa?

How wide are they, 6" ? To avoid too many rubbing issues try & find some 185/40's

Im on my second sump now as well haha.

Bought a new one from GAP (germanautoparts.com), wasn't that expensive which was good.

Shallower, you can use the 24v oil pan and pick up....can't recall if you need the pump as well. It''s not a cheap exercise though, and the new one will be aluminium. At least it isn't the most proud thing hanging out of your bay though!

Well Matte paint is a complete different ball game to a traditional paint job.Last coat of matte & thats it no sanding back or buffing,So the last coat has to be mint...

Now I understand doing it in the shed at home has its risks,
I knew this Cause im all about D.I.Y Learning is part of life.

Today was ment to be the last coat but then I found these only on two parts of car.

I sure have Stephen, Air lifts front and back, switchspeed was a must.
It looks great & its easy to use.(where to mount it is the Question !)
I have no Gauges I dont think ill need them.

Dom basically told me set the number 2 setting to your ride height drive straight to get a wheel alignment.
So I can drive on that setting and it wont fk the tires, slam it for shows raise it for speed bumps.
So theres no real need for the Gauges.

Good man! What sort of butchery, chassis notching, turret raising?
That I can not answer as of yet. This is all new to me.
maybe just a notch, I may aswell aim for the lowest Mk3 in Aus,
Turrent raising that word just scares me ?

The Air tanks are sealed off now.

Ok update nothing great but a must.

Pressure Testing the tanks as there custom made.
The tanks will have to hold 150psi which shocked me, Thats Huge, A normal home compressor holds 120 psi

Me & the old man hydrostatic tested them, This method is the best way.

150psi

Something like this,,
Sub wont be in the wheel well, Ill make a box that I can take out for car shows.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn285/reece7000/VDUBIN/blank.jpg

In other news my cars been running strange of late,So I brought new leads & plugs but still it lacked power,I put the foot down and it had nothing no power..My mate come around with his Vagcom,We got a couple ABS issues but nothing with the Engine..I thought Ok so went for a drive & it was good again...

Stu also said it could possibly be the throttle body, A local Vw guru said its maybe the Air sensor .

So I cleaned them today.

Went for a drive again and its better, At one stage when I gave it a boot fool it died for a split second then pushed me back into my seat..time will tell.
Once the bags are on its going in for new coolant, oil, & fix that ABS issue

Sooooooo gonna give a review of the airride or what? lol

Air Ride is amazing ! Im yet to run gauges up front to see what PSI I have in the bags,The bags full of air are ridiculous,If you drive over any type of bump the hole car bounces bad,It's like having basketballs as your suspension but its great for thoe killer speed bumps, just drive really slow over them.Take some air out (again dont know the psi yet) And its so smooth was really impressed.

those custom stainless tanks look really good! i have never seen an install done like this before. i assume you crunched the numbers to make sure you were getting all the correct volumes?

And you probably wont ever see a set up like this again.Im really trying to do things to this car no one else would.
When I first starting telling people Im doing square Air tanks ppl in america thought HA never, good luck with that one...blaa blaa

Instantly I was like bring it lol so I done my research and found out plenty of reasons why air tanks are all round Starting thinking mmm maybe Ive bittin off more then I can chew,But dad said we can do it, Show thoes yanks ! ( Without my old mans welding skills none of this would of happened ).

Its all stainless steel 4mm thick with 8mm thick side walls and gas welded
They were all individually hydrostatic tested too 200psi and will never go passed 147psi again.

Ive done Hardlines from compressors to the tank.
But connecting tanks together hardline wouldnt work theres no room for them basically once you add elbos its way to bulky.

As for under the car that will all be hardline & braided air line in the near future :)
