Has anyone done any modifications to their TDi? I know of the obvious handling upgrades (coils/sways etc.) but I'm talking more along the lines of engine work, e.g. exhausts, up-pipes/down-pipes, headers etc.

If not in Australia, then overseas perhaps people have read some stories on other forums?

There is a fair bit of discussion on vwwatercooled in regards to the diesel remaps in conjunction with DPF deletes.
It looks like there is good power to be made. I understand Gavin from Custom code is working on bringing the first shipment of these pipes in shortly.

Combined with the custom code remap (necessary to complete the DPF delete) I think output ends up being around 220-240bhp and 310-340lb/ft

We ended up getting the chippeduk ST3 tune for the GT sport.
On paper it puts the figures somewhere close to 147KW and a tad over 400nm. Best upgrade ever!!
Not only does it make the car go a lot quicker, it improves the driveability. I'm not sure if you've noticed with your GT sport, but our's tends to do its regen-cycle when its in traffic sometimes. At stock the car was very jerky taking off. Its not an issue now though with the chip. Its all really smooth....apart from when you get pushed back into the back seat when you put your foot down hehe.

I have researched different tunes and this will happen, in time. I'm just wondering what other upgrades will be beneficial in conjunction with a tune?

well other than the aforementioned DPF delete which will give you the biggest power gain after a tune.. A lot of TDI owners have reported smoother power delivery by freeing up the intake a little.

I spose I'll chime in here - I have some experience in this area.

We bought a stock 103KW TDI Sportline in 2007. Over time I have added a few things to her to name a few;

Boost Gauge 0-30 PSI
Diesel Geek Short Shifter
ModShack intake
MAF grid removal
Rear muffler removal

A massive plug for Ian at Rennehaus who helped me with this intake and piloted it in my TDI.

I have dyno'd it before and after the ModShack was installed on 2 different dyno's admittedly, but it pulled the same numbers both times but you can see the advantages that the intake has given in smoothness of delivery both to torque and power. It is VERY noticeable when driving that the car is more free breathing, and this results in better drivability.

After

I have not tuned it in terms of ECU, I personally cannot bring myself to pay out the $ that the tuners are asking for what is now our second car. However I think I may give a trial version a go down the track as I may be convinced otherwise.

Can you please tell me more about the intake and grid removal? Links to websites possibly?

Thanks mate

Mick, does Ian at Rennenhaus now sell the Modshack with TDI-friendly fittings or is it still a case of having to buy extra bits and 'mod the mod' for it to fit?

I like the idea of mods like yours but don't really know if it's worth the trouble; although it's probably a lot more easily reversible than putting on FSDs etc. :)

Thanks for sharing and I hope to catch up again. Hope all are well at home.

Are you taking your car up to Ian at Rennenhaus or is this a DIY install?

I'd be interested in your feedback - especially if you can do some before & after timing, especially mid-range e.g. 40-60, 60-80, 60-100 km/h comparisons.
Is your car's chip and exhaust stock or modded?
Thanks!

All I did when I got the modshack was grind a small section off the mounting bracket, replaced the connecting sleeve to something more substantial and bought an irrigation garden sprinkler spike to intake the silicon pipe for the vacuum line. 25 minute job once you know what your doing.

I'm unsure they ever made a TDI kit. The one I used was just the R32 one.

I was just gonna DIY it but by the looks of things I need to be chatting to Mick.

I don't think I need to time it, I just imagine it will feel a little smoother.

I don't have any engine mods, this will be the first (if you can call it that, haha)

Well, how did it go? Were you satisfied with the new performance? :D
