:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

This is the sad news this morning, as I was going into my car in the garage (very narrow); I put a 2 cm line scratch near the handle on the panel. It's quite deep and I can see it as a white line.

I have a Deep Blue Purl R32.

I love my baby and this has just stuffed my day\weekend.

So bad I was in a meeting at work thinking about how I could have done this....

Don’t ask how but it was self inflected damage.

When I get home I am gonna post some photos for you guys to see.

First thing tomorrow morning, i will be taking it to the guy at carcareproduct.com.au. He's pretty cool and he will be able to tell me if I can fix it. I have to…

In the mean time, any advice would be greatly appreciated guys. I know it's hard to tell\advice without seeing a photo but will post one in a couple of hours, k.

Well it all comes down to the depth doesn't it, usually. Some of the mobile repairers can work wonders these days.

Here are some of the photos I just took. It's not too deep but I can feel it through my nail, it's like a key scratch...

I so know how you feel. It means you still love your car and that's a great thing! I'd send Dave (from Reflect Effect) our forum sponsor a PM with a link to this thread.

Cool Sam and thank Suga, she's the one going nuts on this forum!

PS: You had ideas about a cruise for charity. Ready to get the ball rolling on that if you are matey! No pressure though :)

Very unfortunate mate.

If you say you can feel it with your finger nail then it is too deep to remove it with wetsanding and polishing.

You can definitely reduce the severity and appearance of it with these methods but it all depends on how much paint thickness you have.

The only other option is a touch up or respray.

Id be more than happy to take a look at it if your around my area.

Cheers
Dave

An update just in case someone may need to go through this. Took it to Mike from carcareproducts and I got the bad news that they may not be able to completely fix it but probably reduce the visibility by 50%. Dropping the car off on Wed and they will spend 3 hrs fixing that and few other little things (might as well do what else needs sorting). I will post after pics but hopefully I will be happy with the after results. He said something about water sand and polish to minimise the V-shape. It may come out ok.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

P.S, Thanks for the offer to take a look at it DaveXR8, i will go with Mike for now and he's not far from where I am.

wow I doored my 911 against a brick wall 2nd day I had it! Got over it after a couple of days. The paint on it is thick and it didn't even scratch, but it did discolour a tad which is a bit strange?

Hey Howie, It's been 4 days and I am still kicking myself man. Hope the guys do a good job on Wed and I don’t see much of it anymore.

Getting them to do some other little fixes (pre-purchase scratches, etc.)

I've used the touch-up and wet-stand method before with success on dark metallic paint, it won't make it invisible but it makes it very hard to find. Basically you get very fine sandpaper on the tip of a lead pencil to prep the groove for the touch up, then apply very thin layers of touch-up paint into the scratch groove. once it's built up nice and high you then begin wet sanding very slowly and painfully down until the surface is flat. Then comes the cutting and polishing. Quite a lengthy process and definitely not for amateurs but it can yield good results without resorting to respraying.

The other option is to wet sand/polish it down a little more to make it harder to notice - if the edges on the scratch are rounded it won't stand out as much - but you'll kill a fair bit of paint depth doing that as well.

Whatever you do, don't try cutting into it or slapping touch-up paint over the top you will just make it worse.

Good luck sorting it out!

All good mate.

The V shape that Mike is talking about is the sharp edges of a fresh scratch. By wet sanding and polishing it rounds off these sharp edges which minimizes the amount of light that reflects off it hence making it less visible.

Post up some pics of the results :D

Hey Guys.. Sorry it’s been a while and I have been busy with work and up studying so sorry for not posting comments on how things went.

The good news is the car came out well and like I pretty much how I was expecting. Mike did a great job with the scratch mark and also got him to sort out some otha things that were on the car before I bought it. The previous owner must have scraped a pole and got some yellow paint on the fron bumper.

Anyway the main one is still there but visibility has been minimized by 60% and unless your know where to look, you can’t see it. I was happy with how it came out so all good.

I also bought some touch up paint from VW so will repair the two white marks you still can see by the door.

Rayjuce...

I know how you feel mate. It's even worst when it's not your fault.

Take your car to Mike from carcareproducts.com (Rozelle) and chat to him. He did a good job with my car and I was happy with the results (he even washed and gave it a good clean).

Post some photos up and other might be able to advise.

PM me if you need more info.

Gd Luck

Just out of interest, how much did that fix set you back?

Ouch. Glad you got it fixed up Sammy. I get all my car cleaning stuff from car care products. They are really good. Want to get on one of their detailing courses they run every month too.

Don't wish to hijack the thread but I have a dent in my tailgate about the size of a 5c piece. I'm thinking of getting these guys to repair it - http://www.dentsdings.com.au/ Anyone used them before? Or can recommend a good mobile guy?

Cheers

No worries Ozram, go for gold. Any help to others via this thread is welcome.

derek, BTW it was $150 which was pretty good. Mike did three areas and I thought that was quite reasonable.

Ozam, also just remembered a guy Mike recommended for fixing dents. I got him to look at my car and give me a quote. Can’t comment any further cus I did not go a head and that cus I just got the scratch fixed and wanted to go easy on the money and sort it out later. The guy was nice enough to pop in and take a look at the car with no obligations.

I have his contact if you want it, just PM me.

My car was keyed withing the first week of owning it.

Had a touch up guy touch up the paint, then I polished it to level it out, and nows its pretty decent. Would have preferred a respray, but didnt want to drop that kind of cash

I know how you fell, had my first car keyed 7 times down down one side, so far the R has been safe, knock on wood.
