My contact at Audi just sent me this link hot off the press;

http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Audi_News/article_6412.shtml

Pricing is estimated at 115K on Road.

A lot of dough....but what a motor it has.

sadly no mate.. all sportsback with an auto tranny at this point in time.. which is in line with the standard S3 sportsback which are ONLY available in DSG option :)

Peak Performance (& John his brake specialist) people must love Robby.

Especially now that he's lining up the next hot street/track car.

I'm surprised it's that cheap considering its the same engine & AWD as the TTRS @ $145K.

Approx $30K less for more car. Well done Audi.

Great car. But i'm going to wait until the 3rd generation.... it has to come out soon right? 2nd generation has been around for like forever!

I wonder if Vw golf will go on a similar route to the RS3... The Golf R is just an S3.... they should build a RR or something which can compete with the RS3.

With practicalities I reckon a second hand C63 AMG wagon would be better bang for your buck.

Also I have problems with it being introduced towards the end of the model cycle. Would make more sense to do so in the middle after sorting out new product niggles and having a longer duration for the models halo car.

$100k+ is still a lot of money.

I consider your modified S3 a better car. It carries less weight up front so you can corner faster, brakes quicker. Your suspension setup, brakes , exhaust are superior to OEM RS3.

Sure you will mod the RS3, but as a comparison keep the S3 and compare both times on the track, I'm sure you'll be surprised at your current S3 compared to the RS3...

100k sounds like a lot for a hatch but probably better value than an R32 with 20-40k of mods.
However I was hoping it would be a twin turbo, otherwise agree that a modded S3 would be almost as good bar the looks.

Love the look of the interior (seats mainly) and the engine/brakes look great. Exterior styling looks a little bland in the photos, but I'm sure they'll make a noticable difference in person.

Of course Rocco! My R32 doesn't understeer due to the heavy V6 engine, and it came third out of 22 cars in last years Hot Tuner Challenge... Plus it was just over 1 second slower around the track than a modified GT2 porsche.. So yes Rocco of course I'll do the suspension and fix the understeer... Oh yeah I can't wait..

The engine was installed in Marcel's race car Decathlon MK4 R32, On low boost it made over 500 whp and high boost over 600 whp...

I hope that Audi is going to take you guys who've ordered out for some 'driver training' at EC in an RS3 as thanks for your early devotion to this A3 variant.

I think it might be worth your while taking a TT RS out for a long drive as preparation for that engine in a Golf-ish hatchback. :D

If this car is released soon enough, wouldn't it be amazing to have the two RS3s and the AP crazy Scirocco tuned for the '11 Tuner Challenge. :) Fun toys!

i actually intend to... going to keep both the S3 and RS3 for a while and run some back to back runs on the track to see what the differences are and the lap times. should be interesting. i do suspect my currect S3 set up will probably be quicker around a track as it is set up for it. but only time will tell.

dude for 115K why don't you get a farken track car, keep the S3 as daily. whats the point of comparing RS3 and S3. you would be crazy to own both.

G-rig
25-11-2010, 02:05 AM
That's true you could get an old nissan for 15k or less that would be lighter and faster and cheaper for the track duties. As some have pointed out there may not be much difference between the S3 and RS3, bit pointless to compare stock vs stock if you are going to mod it anyway in which case a modded S3 is better value. Having both would be like having a Mac book 13" and Mac Book 15".

Someone also rightly pointed out it lacks the RS signature oval exhaust pipes either side.

Capercat
25-11-2010, 02:02 PM
The RS badge really should remain unique to the specific model. Placing the TTRS engine into an A3 chassis is kinda cheating.
But I guess that's how Audi manages to keep costs down.

I remember renderings of this RS3 years ago, but the renderings show massive pumped guards big brakes
and just a more RS feel about it..

Don't get me wrong it's a step in the right direction, but I would prefer more aggressive body styling..

agreed. it's just too tame looking. But i guess thats good for those who want an understated looking car.
Would probably go like hell too, but styling doesnt match the claimed performance for this car. Pumped guards, more aggressive bodykit and bigger wheels, then it would be worth looking at IMO.
Can't wait to see one in the flesh though!

Robby_jai
25-11-2010, 04:26 PM
i agree with some of the points raised here... i would have preferred bigger flared guards.. and in other speculation photos/pictures... the RS signature twin oval pipes were shown.. they looked NICE... this one kinda looks tame....

but i do really like the front end treatment and the spoiler i really like... ah well cant have it all :) still happy with the car tho :)

There was apparently a write up in last weekends' paper over here with comparisons between the Golf R, Focus RS and the STI. I have yet to read the article, but I heard that the Focus RS came out on top as rated by the journo.

The RS500 would surely be a beast in that case, especially in Matt Black.

between the RS3 and TT-RS, i'd just get the TT-RS...though it'd be slightly more expensive, i reckon it looks better than the A3/S3/RS3 range. (personal preference)

LOVE the A5/S5/RS5. Next realistic car after the Golf R would be an S5 for me.... (dont think I can afford the RS5 in that time frame)

I was actually driving along side a Focus RS just the other day. First one i've seen on the road.

It was blue heading over the Gladesville Bridge on Victoria Rd. Looked pretty good.

Focus RS does look the goods for sure. I think AP mentioned that the RS3 would have looked more desirable with flared guards and that's a good call.

Incidentally, that paper article on the Focus, Golf and STI had the Golf pull 0-100 in..get this - 7.2 seconds. Eh??? How on earth do you get it to launch that slow, especially when it's a press car! Tarmac mag got 5.2 which is 'hahahhahahahahahhahaha' fast and well below manufacturer's time.

if it wasnt the wife, kids and pet dog... i'd be all over the TT-RS.. i've been eyeing one off since it first came out..... sadly those toys will just have to wait as more practical family duties await... i thought the RS3 was the answer to my prayers... sadly doesnt look like it any more
