Just to break things up amongst all the mk5 owners posting their rides I thought id share the story of my 1995 Golf VR6.

Ive owned the car since late 2002. Ownership has been an amazing rollercoaster ride with many memorable and some not so memorable times.

As purchased. All nice and shiny super stock with her monster truck stance.

Much money and a couple of years turned her into this

- Bilstein PSS-9 Coilovers
- Neuspeed Rear swaybar
- Schrick Intake manifold
- VF Engineering engine and gearbox mounts
- Jetex catback 2.5" exhaust
- Dieselgeek Short Shift kit
- Modified cold air intake to stock airbox with K&N filter.
- Twin headlight front
- ABT Grille
- Probably plenty of other stuff that I cant remember
- Vic Euro plates
- smoked side & front indicators
- SSR Competition 16x7.5" Rims
- Euro VR6 front spoiler
- 312mm S3 Front brakes
- R32 Control Arm Bushes

Who says a hilux is unbreakable? This one wasnt able to drive away from rear ending me on a road trip up the east coast of Australia. (5000kms in 5 days)

Not so breakable golf. Luckily the damage was only very light and I was able to drive home to Melbourne.

Thanks to that small incident she received a respray in a colour with slightly less pearl effect. I never really liked how it looked very purple on the sunlight. Its a nice deeper blue as per the final pic above.

These days she isnt in the best ever condition. Still scrubs up ok. Will be needing to do some major work on her soon.

Sunroof was leaking so the whole roof lining has been pulled out as it had all deteriorated. Im mid way through fixing that but lacking a little bit of motivation for it.
Engine is weeping a bit of oil from the sump and a bit of coolant from the electric after run coolant pump. Those are simple fixes which will hopefully be sorted out soon.
With 230,000kms the timing chains and diff rivets are probably a ticking time bomb. No noticeable noise yet but im sure that prevention is better than a cure.. They will have to wait until I get a newer car before I tackle those as they are big jobs.

Nice write up, Tim.
As Nath said, a lot of love goes to this car.

I have to admit to having a bit of a soft spot for the ol' girl. I prefer driving this thing to my old MKV which was faster and had more grip. There is just something about driving some of the older generation cars that puts a smile on ya dial

Love the 2nd "after" shot, looks so tough and worked!

What wheels are they? They look Japanese, like SSR Type-C's.

I like this, I'm no longer the odd one out

Nice shopping list too, can see myself doing similar things to mine (money permitting..). And I lol'd at the Hilux being undriveable and you only having a broken taillight lense and not much else! Good work :)

Theyre 16x7.5" SSR Competitions. I didnt put the stickers on them when I got them though cos I thought they looked a bit tacky.
They weigh about 5.5kgs a corner. Seriously light wheels.

Awesome! I agree on the stickers too (but I do like the "SSR" logo sticker). Plenty of knock-offs out there but I doubt they'd be anywhere near as light as these babies!

End of an era in my life. A financial decision really as the aftermarket sunroof was toast and would have required too much money to dodgy it up as there were no spare parts available.

Yup thats basically most of the running gear from the VR6.
Although most of the tasty bits ended up in my new mk3.
