This was my MINI in December 2004 after a drive near Canberra, I think the S3 effort tops this now.

Plates were around $600 one-off payment when I first got them made in tin (see the MINI pic), then about another $140 to get the re-made into plastic for the S3.

The S3 has heaps of plastic panels above the radiator so you can't actually see or get decent access to the radiator without pulling the car to bits. It's not too bad in any case, although seeing how far clusters of bugs ended up inside the engine bay is pretty amazing!

Dang!!
Normal bugs are a pain to get off....good luck with those!

Lots of hot soapy water and a heap of elbow grease should do the trick
;)

urrghh...... i know how you feel tho..... my 4wd recently became a locust bulldozer too on a recent drive to Melbourne.... stopped in some town in the victorian state.. got out.. and stood on the ground and could feel the crunch of locust as i stood on them.... rather unpleasant... i've still got bugs stuck in my intercooler and radiator....

Yeah I think they were worse before Xmas. For some reason they head west against the usual weather flow and so I suspect they're busy screwing up WA now. We hardly had any on the way home either.

If they are stuck in the radiator.. use an airgun to blow them out. If you try hose them off they will expand, and make it near impossible to get out. This is because they're dried up, any water will just swell the carcus up.

I have to reinforce these wise words.

Ran across them in April last year driving from Adelaide to Canberra - took months to get them all out and even longer for the smell of fried bug to leave the car!

This is about halfway through the trip. By the time I got home - could not recognise car or number plate.

Haha, I had a nasty experience on the CBR-ADL trip many years ago in my Mk4 GTI and, yep, took ages to get the buggers off. Partly my own fault because I left them on for a couple of days before washing them off.

For some reason the MINI used to suck up the bugs much more than any other car I have owned, I'd go for a drive with mates and my MINI would have bugs all over the front and theirs would still be pretty much spotless. Anyway, it was bad enough that you could tell the seasons by the smell in our garage - smell of dead bugs, must be summer; no smell, must be winter!

Yeah, I was the same - took months for the smell to leave my garage! Biggest problem I had with the Suby was that the "letterbox" on the bonnet meant two spots to enter the engine bay and two radiators/coolers to cook on. Was glad I was was not crossing the Hay this summer, esp. in my new Golf.

I can imagine.

With any luck the loss of the current auto-fad of mesh over the grille will soon be a distant memory too. :p
