Dave's outside detailing Christina's R32 at the moment for a JDMST Featured Ride photoshoot this Saturday. Not the nicest of days today, bit windy and it rained earlier on too but he's been hard at it for over an hour now.
I'll continue to update the thread throughout the day :)

Brake dust on the OEM pads is ridiculous!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4037/4423772278_dcc9eb52dd_o.jpg
Rear bar is not only covered in dirt, but contamination and a lot of specs in the paint (they look brown, like rust).

Sand, dirt and salt!

Man with a van! It's Dave to to the rescue.

All Dave needs is water and electricity.

Dave's now at work on removing the sand specs from the rear bar with a clay bar and spray detailer.
What a filthy car! Tell Dave I say hi!

Dave's still on the interior! He's just applied UV protector to all vinyls in side the car (doors, dash etc) and he's onto the leather cleaner and conditioner next which he says will make the leather feel more supple.
Pharkus
11-03-2010, 02:18 PM
Is he using Z9/Z10 combo or Lexol for the leather? What is the UV protection he is using on the dash?
Glad to see he is wearing appropriate footwear

OK it's 2.30PM and Dave's almost done. He's gone over the entire outside with a product that will seal in all the hard work he's done and he's also cleaned up the wheels nicely and cleaned the glass inside the interior:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4001/4423361577_b9cb70a237_o.jpg
Applying sealant which is later buffed off with a microfibre cloth.

From the dealer when I picked up my car. Couldn't be arsed sourcing a set of Monster mats that fitted RHD with round holes. Think they were about $150

Alrighty at 3pm sharp Dave was done. Putting the car in the sun showed allowed him to clean up a few little bits here and there, mostly with the windows both inside and out. The car looks amazing, the carbon mirrors especially have come up even better than new! Some pics:

You can try... but it won't work. Them VW brake pads are evil. EVIL I TELL YOU! hahaha

Yeah must look into some EBC Green Stuffs, or something similar which doesn't give off much, if any brake dust.
OK Suga was ecstatic about the job Dave did and she's taken some more photos of her own, though the little pocket camera just can't capture how shiny the paint is in real life. Here are a few more pictures:

Thanks for the positive feed back guys :D
Now its my turn to add some pictures
OK. So Justin messages me a couple weeks ago mentioning that SUGA's car was having a photo shoot and the car needed a good detail. So we had it booked in for today.
The thing I liked about this detail was there was no actual set process or anything. I just got there and did what I thought needed to be done to get the car looking its best with the amount of time available.
Here's some before shots of the car.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0270.jpg
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0272.jpg
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0271.jpg
I started off with cleaning the wheels. The wheels were powder coated and it didnt seem like it was heavily soiled. It was just covered in brake dust so I went the safe option and used Autosmart G101 All Purpose Cleaner just incase anything heavier might strip off the paint, especially on the centre caps.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0274.jpg
I then used Autosmart Trucksteam degreaser to pre treat the wheel arches and got the brush in where ever it could get to. Car was pretty low so I was kind of limited to areas I could reach.
Wheels and arches were then pressure cleaned.
Next was the door jambs. These were treated with G101 APC and agitated with a soft brush and pressure cleaned.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0275.jpg
after
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0287.jpg
I then pre foamed the car x2
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0277.jpg
Washed with 2 bucket method and checked the cars paint condition.
Over all the paint was in excellent condition with very minimal swirls but the only issue was the paint contaminants. Living near the beach has cause alot of dirt and micro sand particles to imbed itself onto the paint. Mostly at the rear of the car.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0278.jpg
So I got claying and this is what came off.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0279.jpg
Took a bit over an hour to clay the car.
The interior then received a full vacuum, floor mats were shampooed, leather treated and dash and trims treated.
Floor mats
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0280.jpg
After vac and shampoo (even shampooed that little carpet bit in the door )
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0282.jpg
Leather treated with Driven Vinyl/Rubber/Leather Conditioner
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0283.jpg
Dash and trims treated with Prima Nero
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0288.jpg
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0289.jpg
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0290.jpg
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0291.jpg
With the paint being in such good condition I didnt feel that it needed any abrasive polishing so instead I used Prima Amigo which is a Glaze/paint cleaner. This is a very light to non abrasive polish which uses light cleaners to remove any dead or dry paint which might be sitting on the surface.
This is one of my most favourite products as once it is all sealed up it leaves a really smooth slick feel to the surface.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp229/Reflect_Effect/SUGA%20R32%20Golf/DSCN0285.jpg
Amigo was applied by RO and then sealed with Driven Automotive polish by hand.

Im sure it must be the sand blowing up from the beach Justin. I have seen it on some other cars that Ive worked on out at San Souci as well.

OoOoo...I was thinking that might happen especially with that wind yesterday.
Since its only been a day you can just rinse it down and dry but if you want to be extra safe and make sure all the salt comes off,
do a proper wash preferably with the 2 bucket method and use warm water in the soap solution if possible.
p.s stop guttering those wheels

Definition: Gutter: Inanimate object primarily constructed at the side of roads to aid in the direction and flow of surplus rain water to drainage systems. Gutters have a tendency to don ninja costumes and jump out at unsuspecting people driving cars to sate their hunger for nice rims.
