can anybody please tell me if you can transplant the motor from a Mark 3 into my October 1990 built 4 door GTI,if so are there any modifications that I need to be aware of ?

What motor are you wanting to transplant?
Do some google searches and you might find some info, engine mount etc.

What you have there is a mk2, not a mk1, anyway. You sure can alot of people do engine transplants from the 1.8KR motors to the 2L lumps out of a mk3.

Go to www.vwwatercooled.org.au and they will be able to give you as much info as you want!

With time, patience & skill you can transplant any engine into a MK1/2.

A MK3 engine will be very simple to transplant but unless its a VR6 or 2.0l engine it's not worth the hassle.

If it is a 1990 car and looks like this it's a MK2;
