An oldie but a goodie, is always Homebush. So many good locations there where you can shoot a car, a couple of places most people dont even try :)

@ katoomba so if I leave at 11ish should get there at about 12, you still got my number? Just give me a few days warning so I can make sure my car is clean.

Same.

I find the less light, like parking or security lights, the better.

Been shoo'd off by security and police on quite a few of my late night shoots :(

There is a commuter car park near my place that has heaps of space and no locks/security - I am not a photographer so just click away on my iphone haha.

I did one recently and the security guard told me to "have fun" Was quite surprised.

What I wouldn't do to have the eastern entry/west bound to the Lane Cove tunnel to myself for a few hours.

Haha was thinking about lane cove tunnel as a shoot location when I was driving through it the other day :)

The best bit about that corner?

In the MK2 at the right speed I can get the inside rear wheel in the air for a good 3-4 seconds ;-D

I like that tunnel as well.

The tunnel under Milson's Pt station is always popular.

There's a tunnel in Terrey Hills, which, thanks to its curve, lends to nice photos:

Kirribilli, near the water.

Assuming security doesn't punt you, its hard to beat The Rocks:

Acer Arena at Homebush is also generally cool, but security kicks you off the paved area pretty darned quickly.

There's a spot near the Hyundai at North Ryde / Macquarie that has some really dark walls, that light-coloured cars would contrast nicely with. They have some downlights there, which might be enough to photograph cars without external flashes. I keep meaning to take my Z out there for photos, but I never get the time.

If we can get enough people, rolling shots in tunnels always look awesome:

Go late at night. Like, after dinner late. I'm pretty sure I get there at 10PM when I go. The industrial park has no activity after business hours so the only people likely to be driving through there at that hour are people wanting to drift the roundabouts.

What I do is park the car at a point where people approaching the tunnel can see me from the Mona Vale Rd exit, and leave the engine running if I'm by myself. You can see on the right side of my photo that the downlights (and therefore the tunnel) ends just at the edge of my shot. I make sure I leave my lights on so people coming can see me, though. The tunnel is one way so there's no worry about cars coming from the other direction.

If you can bring a second person then you can have someone act spotter for you, or have one guy shoot while the other sits in the car ready to drive off. I've had a few times where someone's come into that exit, and I've made a mad dash to my car and driven off, but its never been an issue.

That said, the Milsons Pt tunnel is way safer since its a dead end, and not much happens in Milsons Pt at night. The walls are still concrete grey so there's not much difference in backdrop either.

ok cool, i just like that tunnel because its curved and the lights look nice, Milsons Pt looks too smooth lol.

I like the feel of industrial areas. They are usually lit up at night as well.

Lane cove business park, chatswood business park, macquarie park (more modern back drops), artarmon (around where all the smash repair/service shops are).

I wouldnt do that tunnel with 4 cars though. Wont even look nice. I need a vast space. Sometimes dark is ok cos ill just sttobe it with 4 flashes. But i just need somewhere interesting. An empty and open carpark would be awesome if anyonee know a place for a sunday night.

What about the rooftop carpark at Chatswood Westfield? It stays open late to cater for the moviegoers, but on a Sunday night it should be otherwise dead.

I heard a stig that drives a supermarket roams the roof of carparks in Chatswood.
