hey peeps...

just got word from a friend at VW....

All orders for GTI and R that are being signed in Feb will have a 9 month minimum lead time...

apparently there is some delays or hold up in the factory in Germany...

Also any orders with an allocated Vehicle ID number will still continue on unaffected...

FFS!! Hope I'm not affected.

My dealer still hasn't been able to supply me with my VIN yet. I was quoted April for it to arrive. You would think it would be in transit right now??

April Delivery should be on a ship as we speak or getting loaded on to a ship.....

The Yarris YR is fine, it's still faster then your R32 anyway..

i LOVE the RS250... seriously considering getting one!! But don't want to sell my vw, and don't really need a 3rd car.

But after testing the RS250, it is an awesome car to drive, interior lacking a little, but the drive makes up for everything.

Do a badge delete...get rid of the second Y and you have a Yaris R. The weight saving should equate to extra killer wasps.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Mine took 6 months and the waiting time can only get longer. When I got mine, the dealer said they are now quoting 8 months for new orders (that was in December).

Geez as much as I love GTIs and Rs I don't think I could wait that long for one to come over...
I was looking at maybe upgrading later towards the end of the year....perhaps I should be putting an order in now

I have a mate who went to order a GTI last week and it was pushed back from an August delivery to a September delivery.

If I had to wait that long for the R, I would seriously consider either a Focus RS (there are two at a dealership over here still available), or a STI.

I heard of a June delivery being quoted on an R if it was ordered this week (stinks a bit of BS).

That is mess up man. Feel your pain. If you have not done so, I suggest rocking up to your dealer in person and get an update. Too easy for emails and calls to be dodged.

I know your pain. I waited exactly 5 months to the day for my "R", seemed like a lifetime but that looks like be short to the new wailing times.

That sucks Mark.
I feel for you mate.
:(

I remember I had to wait 6 months for my i30 when it first came out...can't beleive I waited 6 months for a Korean car.
Atleast you know the wait will be worth it when it eventually arrives.

Hey Mark

i was also told late April or Early May as the First ETA..

still waiting for a confirmation on my build now...

I ordered my GTD on 8 January 2011, Dealer estimated delivery May/June. So a boat may be arriving late Aril early May with all orders?

On another thought, will the delay mean that there is a possibility that the R style LED tail lights could be installed on Aus built GTI/GTD as in Europe?

Just a thought.

Big Yellow
16-02-2011, 12:50 PM
it'll prob come in july at the earliest!

mine was actually ordered end of december (hahahahahaha) and only just got my build date.

so unless u have been given a stock allocation no./build date dont get ur hopes up!

Went into the dealership yesterday and was told they are not allowed to order any R's or GTD. Was advised next set of orders would be next week and hopefully they would be allowed to order an R and would be looking towards a Sept arrival.

Is the delay because they are ;

A) Popular all over the world
B) It's winter in Europe so manufacturing has slowed
C) Christmas delayed production
D) other...?

Good for VW to have more demand than supply, no stock sitting in dealerships getting old.

The reason was due to lack of components.

I remember when I picked up my R (in late January) the dealer said that the delays now will be minimum 9 months from order due to release of the R to the US market. Here's a link http://ezinearticles.com/?2011-Volkswagen-Golf-R-Overview&id=5819753; where they say specifically
The Volkswagen Golf R will be hitting showroom floors sometime in the first half of the year so if this is a car for you get on the list because this limited production hatchback will be a hard vehicle to find.

This would somewhat explain the delay being extended from 6 months (a few months ago) to ~9 now

The US are not set to start selling the R until Dec 2011 / Jan 2012, reading on the US forums suggest they are getting excited BUT hatch and VW are not the flavour they are here. Popularity of VW is mainly amongst enthusiasts because the US market still have this view that VW is a cheap car.

The delays are many fold but compounded by the demand here in OZ.. The dealers were telling me there is an allocation of 3 R units per dealership per month and they are taking on 10.. this means there is a compounding affect on back orders.. you can see why they are saying they are not taking any more orders for a month or so to have a release valve.

Parts seem to be also an issue there are reports about how the factory was shut down for several days because parts were not forthcoming, I can only guess on the back of the GFC that companies that were supplying the car industry went under so ramp up is probably still occurring now the world economy is recovering

Any way as disappointing as I am , ordered in Sept. 2010 and now being told Aug 2011 delivery, just keep saving making the financial pain less and increasing the delivery joy.. might wander down and have a chat with them today to see if anything has moved

Wow, 11 month wait?

I waited for only 3 months for my GTI and I thought that was bad enough.

Back in Dec10, I rang Denlo on Thursday, they had a GTI in stock, I came on Saturday and signed the contract :)

When I got home, checked out the forums and found Barloworld had an R in stock.. :(

Anyway, took delivery 2 weeks later, very happy although would have been a lot happier if it had Bi-Xenon option.

Earlier in Sep10 I was told the GTI DSG was Jan11 delivery, except a fully optioned DSG one which was available in stock for NSW. Barloworld had 5 manual GTIs in stock in Sep10 and none in DSG.

Ring around, one or two dealers in NSW / ACT may have an R or GTI in stock ready for delivery, although the options with the car may not be exactly what you want.

The problem is they don't usually have the spec I want and if it is close it is 10K more than I have it on order for.. sort of stuck.. but I am patient

Go and have a chat with John Lee at McCarrols at Hornsby.

Had a good chat with him today. Very helpful. They have some orders coming in.

I've order my GTD in early November, and was promised a mid-March delivery.

Called them again today, it is now more like late April to mid May... so all Golfs are coming to Australia at that time? They told me that it is now locked in for a week 11 build, fingers crossed...

Finally got my VIN number 2 weeks back and tracked it to be on the vessel MORNING CONDUCTOR. Checked this morning and it's just left Fremantle on its way to Melbourne and then onto Sydney (Port Kembla) for 8th March. Was told though then another 2 to 3 weeks before arriving at dealership. So order end of September should get End of March - 6 months - Aghhhh...the wait is almost over

I was told they have an allocation of X number of Golf's per month/period/whatever be it a 118TSI, GTI or R.

Hey Dubbers I picked up my DSG R 2 weeks ago and rediscovered my love of driving. problem is I can t keep my wife out of the drivers seat.

I bought my Car from Horhsam VW and believe it or not the dealer representative was Luke Walker............brings a whole new meaning to the superbowl commercial!!!! (you tube "Starwars volkswagen")

when we were talking he said they were getting a whole load more of R's in as they sell quite a bit of stock

this is the rundown

1. April arrival, Rising Blue, DSG, Nav, MDI, Leather
2. June arrival, Rising Blue, DSG, Dynaudio, Adapt Chass, 19” Tall, MDI
3. August arrival, Candy White, DSG, Nav, Cell, 19” Tall (black), MDI, Leather

They were a great help in getting my car in two months by hittling the stock list Australia wide and bringing my car in via Brisbane.

Having managed large fleet (500 + cars) and dealt with many agents it is always great to deal with the non city agents but Luke was one out of the box. absolutely straight up.

If you need a car in a less than 10 month wait, see if the above comes close to your spec.

Oh dealership is Dick Wilson Motors Horsham VW Ph (03) 5382 4677

cheers

I will post up some pic's of my R when I can get out from behind the wheel and in front of the car.
