Get a GTI rear bar if you go for a colour code, it looks better than the GT sport bar.. but then again if your doing the exhaust, could always get a R32 rear bar if you prefer the look or quad tips with a GTI bar :D

Nice start.

Many good recommendations for Koni FSDs. Check out WhiteJames' suspension reviews. I don't recall seeing his work here but he's posted a long thread on golfmkv.com Australia forums. The springs that go with the FSDs might then determine its overall stiffness.

Yousnooze might be a good person to talk to about FSDs. I bought his set. :)

I have a Jetta TDI DSG and it's a pensioner version of the GT. :)

Cheers,
Bizi

Another turbo oiler representative!!! yay!! I'm really curious to how they drive.. that torque surge looks awesome on online videos. Would love to have a ride in one of them :)
I heard the Koni FSD + Eibach pro or Koni FSD + H&R seems to be the more favorable combination.

PS: GET IT CHIPPED :P :P :P

car looks great ML! but can i suggest your first mod be a dealer advertising delete ( the plate surrounds and rear window sticker )

if you have any queries about warranty work and mods ask away.. i know how ossie park vw operates ;)

ml16

Yeah mate, new plates should be arriving next week sometime, so plate surround delete and window sticker will be gone.

What work can i do to the car without voiding the factory warranty?

Just got off the phone with the insurance company. Car goes to the assessor Monday. There is a chance it will be written off on the spot and they will give me a cheque, plastic bag for my belongings and a taxi voucher to get home. Sad days :(

Still haven't got any. The damage isn't hugely bad, It's just on every panel. Being white it makes it hard to see, but i see it every day before i get in the car.

that sucks Marty :(

ml16
25-03-2010, 01:47 PM
Yep, I'm hoping it gets fixed though. If it gets fixed warranty can blow it out its arse and i'll get modding...

Oh man, I hope they don't write it off. They are rare enough as it is.

Does your Jetta have the the 125kw TDI motor?

ml16

Oh man, I hope they don't write it off. They are rare enough as it is.

Yeah for sure, this one has heaps of cool stuff i havent seen in the same combination in any other golf around. Even some GTi's! I'm going to push hard to get it repaired.

Bizi
25-03-2010, 06:26 PM
Marty, if it's written off, can you buy it back for a minimal amount, then use the good bits on a new(er) GT or GTI? I guess you'd want to buy it back and then fix it. :)
Alternatively, could it be replaced with its new equivalent the GTD?

It was a great combo, so good luck gtting it repaired. Can I have first dibs on the headlights, if you get a MkVI instead? :) :) :)

ml16
25-03-2010, 07:17 PM
Wait and see mate. Time will only tell. I would prefer it to be repaired because luckily i can get it done relatively soon, eg over the next month. If its a write off, i will be without a car for a long time waiting on a new GTD.

zz2
25-03-2010, 07:28 PM
does it have to be a TDI? what about a secondhand mk5 GTI eh eh??

ml16
25-03-2010, 08:19 PM
Not sure Mark, wait and see anyway. If i get a brand spankers GTD i will sell and buy a mk5 GTi ;)

Well i've seen guys cars with similar damage to mine get quoted a more realistic sub $10k repair job. That means im definitely in the ball park to be repaired and back on the road. Very good news!

Bizi
27-03-2010, 01:44 PM
Does your Jetta have the the 125kw TDI motor?
Sadly, no.
It's the 103kW, so is truly the old-person one, rather than a GT in drag, it's a vanilla 2.0TDI. I think the 125kW only became part of the Jetta range fairly recently (MY09? Mine's MY07.).

ml16

Had the car assessed this morning, the insurance guys think its touch and go if it gets repaired or not, had a full written quote done on it also. The panel shop thinks it will be fixed and can't see a reason not to. Hopefully will be in getting fixed over the next few weeks while im away anyway.

Thanks

I like this GT. It is clean, unmolested. Juding from your list of mods you are molesting your car in a tasteful way. Good to see.

I prefer to not use that verb when discussing tasteful things.

I've only seen it in ads when people proudly proclaim that they have not molested their car.

Just my own peculiar sensitivity! I like the term TDi Love, though. :)

I just wish I could make my TDI's purr sexier. Have you achieved that? Partial mufflerectomy or larger dump pipe? Budget builds, not the Suga Kresseig! I can't spread the love that much, or I'd just start up with a Boxster build. :)

Best of luck with getting what you want, in this claim - hopefully involving you keeping your lovely TDI. :)

Well JCI wanted to write it off. I am now persuing other avenues of claims/repairs etc.

Quoted 14k total, which is around 40% of the cars value, not cool. Will keep updating as i find out more.

Thanks guys

And another quote this morning, seemed quite dodgy, but wait and see. Hopefully they write the car off and i just get a new GT-D when they come out in a few months. Would rather a new car than a dodgy repair, or an awesome repair and keep the same old car. Either way it will be months before anything happens so no mods still :(

bloody hell Marty. insurance companies really seem to be dragging this out :(

20-04-2010, 11:26 AM
Alright, got a phone call this morning saying that i could book it in for repairs. Pretty happy about this finally coming around, just need to wait and see when they can get the parts so it can be fixed. Some new parts will probably be added at that time (gti side skirts/24mm RSB).

What a relief.

De-badged the boot last night. The rear looks so much cleaner/nicer now.

Next mod will be an RSB, but going to wait until after the repairs before it gets done.

The tail lights look great Marty. Was that a DIY using film, spray or did you have someone do it for you? If so, who, how much and can they do mine asap!? Haha

ml16
10-05-2010, 01:14 AM
DIY using spray. Took about 15 mins of prep (cleaning,taping/newspaper etc.) then another 2 mins to spray it on, left it about an hour to dry, then cleared over the top. let that dry then pulled it all off. Apparently 24 hours to cure completely then it will last forever.

I have plenty left in the can if you want to borrow it?

Paul_OH
10-05-2010, 01:26 AM
Thanks for the offer but nope! I have had very little luck with spraying lights in the past. Whilst my skills have improved somewhat doing wheel resprays etc I know (I just really know!) that I'm going to screw it up. Would love to see how they turned out at the next GTG so we can talk then.

10-05-2010, 01:33 AM
they look great Marty!

i attempted the spray and then the film. i got so pissed off and frustrated i just went out and bought the dam genuine R32 tails. $550 later....

ml16

Sounds good. I want to get some new wheels soon, 17x7.5 i think. Nothing too outrageous.

EDIT: ouch mark, i just took my time, i may end up wet sanding them slightly to get them smoother, but probably not. There are a few bits of fluff stuck in the spray though, but you can only notice it up close.

Well, 24mm RSB arrived Friday, but didnt get a chance to pick it up, so will get it during the week and put it on at some stage then too.

Took the car to a skid pan day yesterday, was a very wet day but the golf went quite well and i was very suprised and impressed by it. Picture below of me through the slalom and lining up.

Car is going great with the RSB. Hasn't moved side to side at all, just got under to check around the mounts and i can't see any signs of grease further up the bar than normal so i'm assuming its stayed put for now.

Got a call from panel and paint shop, its booked in to be repaired on the 20th September. They want to cut the roof skin off and replace this, so i'm very skeptical about it all now. Would prefer them just try and push the dents out by hand even if the labour costs go up. My plan is to ring around a few shops and see who can sort this out be PDR then just replace door skins/bonnet as normal, or even PDR on as much as possible.

Very dis-heartened by it all at the moment and not wanting to have anything to do with cars, but at the same time still want to get a few more mods done and have some fun with it, or at least have fun with some car anyway.

Cheers

Bluefin arrived Friday sometime. Already downloaded the stock map, having issues sending it to the bluefin server. Hope to have this sorted tonight when the UK wakes up so i can have it back to me late tonight and installed.

EDIT: new map installed, what a difference. Feels great, spins wheels through most gears and traction control is always flashing, revs a bit harder than before. Pulls all the way through each gear now instead of dieing towards redline. Feels about what a stock GTi might be like, very similar in performance to stock XT which is my previous car. I would say 0-100 is now around 7 seconds, instead of the 8+ standard.

Cheers
