View Full Version : Whine/Gear noise from DSG

i have recently noticed that my gti is making some gear noise / whine @ low speeds (<30kph) in 1st and 2nd gears, it is faint and seems to increase when i accelerate, is this normal is anybody else experiencing similar noise? I manage to find a video clip on youtube making the same sound.

Hi. Its hard to tell from the above video. Would love to see/hear the actual issue. Being MKVI, I assume it is still under warranty?. I have seen similar issue on the new VI due to the style of driving by the owner (manufacturers gear transmission shifts to higher gear in order to reduce consumption). The engine sounds like it is laboring and may even ping (depending on fuel you use, whether or not you have done any other modifications etc, It will be difficult to assess from video files, if you are out of warranty and in Sydney, PM or better still call us at RamSpeed and see whether we can get down to the real problem at hand with simple diagnostics.

Mate you have the exact symptoms my car was having and i mentioned it to vw barloworld five dock in syd and 2 weeks later i still dont have my car back.....Problem was the flywheel, Excessive wear was the answer from them. I have a dsg mk6 with 22000 kays on it. At light throttle below 40 klms i had a slight wine in 1 and 2 gear. Thought nothing of it but mentioned it to them. Will get the car back wednesday so il let you know if its fixed.

tippah thanks for the tip, however my car has less then 10000km if it is the flywheel i found that unacceptable, please keep me updated cheers.

Highly unlikely, but again, closer inspection (diagnostics) required of the issues at hand. As a matter of interest, a single mass R8 flywheel did need replacement (Audi Warranty) after only 23K, Km's. (auto). We noticed a lot of vibration/noise during routine check before the upgrade. Yet to see issue on a R32.

Well i have an update for my car............They got a new flywheel then ring me and tell me its damaged! A tooth was broken off the ring gear in transit.....Not impressed at all!!! So now i have to wait another 2 weeks...
Should i complain to someone about this?
