Hi guys, after having my new R for a few weeks now i have notice that my optional 19" Wheels flick up a lot of stones and mud down the side of the car. I looked at getting some mud flaps but they are quite large so i thought i might make my own mini mud flaps so here is my DIY.
First off i bought a pair of standard rubber mud flaps

As you can see the ones i cut out are sitting over the top of the original so you still have one spare is you make a stuff up.

Once they are cut out it's just a matter of screwing them on using the OEM screws already on the car, Done, took about 45mins all up.

mmm... i might do it too when i put my new wheels, 18x8 +45. extra 12mm poking out increases the chance of craps being thrown onto the sides paintwork.
i'd be very annoyed if i ever get stone chips on the sides caused by the front tyres picking them up..

Yeah that was my concern as it already kicks the mud up the sides

Thanks Frazza for the tip on the mudflaps. Just picked up my new baby (GolfR) on Tuesday last week after a 6 month wait. I to noticed the 19" flick up mud etc. So I went to Clark Rubber and picked up a piece of 4mm thick rubber for $9. Shall use your pattern to make the mudflaps.:)

I actually made mine a bit bigger so that the top aligns with the top of where the liner overlaps the guard and a couple of cms longer because there can still be gunk thrown up if they're too short. Mine ended up being 275mm instead of the 218mm.

Nice. I notice that mine kicks up some mud every now and then too - which is weird as I only do city driving.
They look good mate!

I made my own variation up of these mini mud flaps - not to hi jack this thread but its just another option. Mine are smaller, more discreet and made from sturdy but flexible plastic thats about 2mm thick. I wanted mine mainly to help stop stone chips flicking up onto the side skirts - and they appear to work well.
I'll get some better shots, but this is all i've got for now (bad pic taken in the garage at night and dirty car)

I really like how simple those mud flaps look on your car frazza. Sometimes OEM flaps can be too moulded and have a lot of detail, which draws attention to them.
Have they stood up well over the past year? Edges havent frayed?
