hi all, hoping someone can tell me how easy it is to replace a RCD310 with a RCD500 into a MkV Pirelli. I bought the car as an exec demo but apparently the stereo was a swap... the dealer has now sent me the original RCD500 and i would like to install this weekend... hoping this doesn't go balls up.
All suggestions and information welcomed!!!
Many thanks,
Don.

It's actually really easy. I did RCD500 to 510 last weekend and it took me 30-45mins tops and I was taking my time.
I followed this guide: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4878400-DIY-MKV-Premium-8-RCD510-Swap
did the dealer give you the pin for the new stezza Don? if not… http://www.vwgolf.net.au/showthread.php?1194-IMPORTANT-tip-for-anyone-who-has-bought-a-new-secondhand-stereo

yeah, got the pin but due to the dealer messing about with it in the first place i'm wondering if they tinkered with the canbus to install the RCD310... hoping not so it goes easily back to the RCD500...
i would ideally like the RNS510 with blurtooth kit but cant find one at a decent price...
thanks for the advice guys, i will be checking this out after dinner and may reply to the p[osts then...
thx.

This post really did help!!! thanks brimway...
Everything seems to be working well although i am now confused as the RCD500 can now be switched on with no keys in the ignition. This happens after i have pulled up taken the keys out and then hit the power button... is this the usual function of VW stereos?

This is normal, I believe there is a time period after the key is taken out for which the stereo can be used, not sure of what it is though..
