Seriously, looking at all this mods/diaries threads makes me really jealous :( i want to get my car tuned like most of your cars, but it would cost like 10k, and at the moment i just don't have those kind of money lol

it's very tempting but doing mods on the car is not an option until late july or august due to budget constraint. Have way too much to spend in the next few months to fit in a few "unnecessary" $$ on the car, world cup tickets plus rest of my overseas trip set me back close to 20k.

Enjoy your car as stock, I did to begin with.

I don't know if it is from reading all the forums that i want to get it tuned... or if i really want to get it tuned... lol
In my head i'm thinking drive stock for 1-2 years, and when i get bored with it, get it tuned and enjoy the fun again... but you guys are having so much fun now... and i want it!
hence someone ban me :)

I never saw the point in travelling. You go, have a nice time for a month or two. Come back with at least $5-6k less and it is soon forgotton once you get back apart from the photos you took whilst away!

i say just enjoy your holiday and enjoy your car stock to get used to the current performance. I did it for around 3 months before i started modding then there was no hope for me hahah also i'd save for holidays but my mates are tight and can't go so no real point although i put away some of my pay for traveling later on in the future..
you could always just go stage 1 which is just the tune and you can pay as much as 1.6g? depending on which tuner you go for and that should be enough for the time being

Different people have different wants. I'm going to the football world cup, it is really one in a lifetime experience, it will be my 1st and now with my own money, i didn't even blink to book everything. in my opinion the experience money can't buy.

I think that is what i will do, drive for a while then see how i go.
I have a small problem though, what i want and what the sensible thing to do doesn't cross paths in my brain. So i have a "bad" feeling that i would just splash 10-20k on mods, and as great as that sounds, it is not necessary as i have other cars and bike.
anyways enough of rambling

stay stock. remember "its not the ride its the rider" i'm sure i can give some of the modded guys a run for their money on drive days. improve yourself as a driver...advanced driving courses, track days and you'll get heaps more out of your GTI. i believe that's money better spent and you don't have to worry about warranty void issues. It all sank in for me at a track day a year ago where one of the instructors wooped most drivers on the track with a hyundai excel. nuff said.

Yeah I agree, enjoy the car stock as long as you can. A few personal touches and upgrades aren't bad though.
Mods are a bit overrated and it gets a bit addictive & expensive. I don't think i'll stuff around with the next car as much and a lot of the mods aren't as good as OEM.
Travelling is good too.

that is very true silverbullet, the driver has alot to do with how the car drives. You can have the most modded car or much more expensive car, yet with the driver being average, it is no use.
One thing for me that lean towards not modding the car at all is i don't go to track days in my car (i do with my bike), and i do have a faster car at home as well.
The only mod realistically i would do is the stage 1 ecu upgrade, as this is simply getting the best out of a stock car.

Do as I say, not as I do ;).

Stage 1 ecu upgrade would be worth it as the cars are detuned, and the extra power is fun. Not many other mods really make that much difference around the streets. You don't want to get to the situation where you could have bought a better car with the money spent on mods etc.
