Well, this thread is as much about a thank you to everyone on this forum who has helped me over the past 6 months as anything else.

A special thanks goes out to Christophe (Frenchie). Frenchie your wheel knowledge was completely and utterly invaluable. You really do deserve your title of wheel ..... Also on my thank you list i need to give a shout out to Nath, Ben and Andrew (onepole) who assisted me to find out which wheels would, and would not fit over my brembo bbk. Also thanks list would not be complete without adding John (Illetronik) who put me onto the Brembo's in the first place.

So firstly Christophe.. i now know more about wheels then i ever thought i could possibly know about wheels. In a lot of ways i actually almost ended up having fun looking for wheels in the end as it was such a challenge to find ones that could clear my brakes, but also fit my car. Not to mention ones that you thought you also thought looked ok. Also need to thank you for putting me onto spinning wheel and tyres. Finally i found a place i can trust to not destroy my rims (unlike the guys i used to use..)

Nath, you're the one who put me onto the MTM wheels and also introduced me to Frenchie. As you can see i ended up getting the 19 version of your rims. It kills me yours didnt fit. They were exactly what i wanted (and exactly the price i wanted as well!). If you havent sold them yet let me know i have a few friends with golf's im sure will want to grab a set of mtm's after seeing mine. I'll send them your way.

Ben... i dont think anyone could have had as much dedication to trying to find me rims as you did. It was impressive to say the least. I hope you didnt waste too much of your life on the hunt.

So, for those of you who dont know my story... all in all.. i had an extremely negative experience with a previous forum member who i hope i have the good fortune of never seeing again. I usually avoid badmouthing people, but Khan, if you read this you are a lieing sack of $%# and i hope you rot in hell. Everything you told me was a complete and utter lie. Other than that, have a nice life.

On the brighter side, i am extremely thankful for all the other extremely helpful folk i met in my journeys. Andrew you are a nice guy and im in love with your car. Chatswood classic are trying to order me one as i write this, so i should be hopefully sporting a lovely new white .:R early next year. Dont worry, i'll make sure i make it different enough not to clash with you.

And again Frenchie, thank you for putting up with hundreds of my questions. You really are the star of this story.

Pic's of the rims below. Sporting Brembo 355mm 4 pot brakes, completely rebuilt and functioning flawlessly. Covered by MTM 19" Bimoto titan polished rims wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

And for those of you interested... the tyres are phenomenal. Even not bedded in, they are quieter and grippier than my Conti SC3's and the dunlop's i had previously. And the brakes. I love them. They do everything i could ever ask from a brake and im happy to have them on my car.

Nice write up mate, congrats on the wheelage and brakeage. Good to hear about some awesome tyres too!

Just gotta get rid of your wiper extensions, colour code and some coilovers and it'll look a million bucks.

Stephen IIRC just 8.5 +45 mate

Sure, no problem at all Stephen.

Wheels are 19 * 8.5, ET50. The brake clearance is excellent for an ET50 wheel. I tried a few 19 * 8.5 ET45's which had significantly less clearance than these. When i was lucky i sometimes got a 1-2mm gap. Profile works extremely well with BBK's, giving me a good 4-5mm odd clearance..

Get a 5mm spacer, 10 if you're baller. Will improve the apperance of your wheels and car for sure :)

Will give more clearance to brakes as well.

Yeah the colour coding has been something that has been bothering me a bit.. the original owner colour coded the rear in an odd fashion... Sometimes i like it because it makes the car look different. Other times im not sure exactly what he was thinking. See http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/534/smallrear.jpg

Also did the bottom of the front bumper.. it all matches, and considering i know im upgrading i'll probably leave it for the moment. What is of more concern to me is a dent on the front number plate holder (thanks to some lovely person in balmain) and also one on scuff plate on the back (thanks to another lovely person in summer hill).

That's the worst thing about having your car in inner city area's.. some people think 'touch parking' is an appropriate way to drive..

oh yes those... dealer fitted ones as apparently 8" wide rims require them to be legal.. have absolutely no idea how they are fitted to the car to take off..

Beautiful. Beautiful.

Ahh Jig.. your thanks comes very soon too. Brakes are booked in for sensors and engineering mid next month. Then, things will be complete.

a skill once again i wish i didnt have... having to try about 35 different rims on your car to find one that clears is less fun than it sounds :)

yep going the .:R.... i hope... basically i went to chatswood classic and they gave me a price which was less than ideal.. i thanked them and left. My dad got his cheaper than that from them and my cousin got his substantially cheaper than that.. i think it has a lot to do who you get to speak too. A couple of days later they rang me .. to which i explained that through my work i could get a substantially nicer car for the money. They of course mentioned that they knew they could beat that price, but a week later im still to hear if they can.

Either way im sold on an .:R.. its just a matter of when. If not, for the $73k quote i got, i think i might look at an a5....

Rims and brakes are looking great!
At least all the hard work paid off in the end.
If you do buy an R, they will bolt across too :)

Have you had any issues with rubbing with the 19" at all? While cornering hard or the sort?

thanks guys.. its nice to have it all sorted now.. well almost.. the brakes are getting sensors next month and an engineers certificate so we will be 100% legit!

as for the rubbing... i havent noticed it yet.. but ive driven it pretty easy to date..

in saying that i honestly am not even sure how i tell when they are rubbing. not sure what to look for.

i think i need to do the fender screw mod.. but for the life of me i cant work out where that screw lives.. I've seen the pic's but i cant find anything on my car that remotely looks like that up front..

im wondering if its because my wheel arch extensions are covering it?
