Our Impressions:
On Engine Startup, you immediately hear the unmistakeable supercharger sound. The initial cold start up brings the idle up to around 3.2L then once it settles down after 30 seconds slowly dissipating to the usual 0.9/1.0L. At this point you can barely here the S/C sound. In other words, the idle petrol consumption figure is pretty similar to stock. The idle rpm is also the same as stock sitting between 500-600rpm. No vibrations felt, no engine bay rattles, no out of place engine sound omitting from the engine bay.
Driving on Auto mode is a different story. At first pick up, it seemed the DSG and the car's new found power were a bit out of sync. There was a mix of urban driving but mostly freeway driving after the car was picked up(24th of December) from Ramspeed HQ. After driving the car for the 2nd time today(27th of December) however, and giving the new re-programmed ECU time to learn my driving habits, this “DSG out of sync” behaviour was a distant memory. The urgency as soon as you put your foot on the pedal is immediately noticed. The surge to climb up the revs and the DSG shifting to match the speed is cemented firmly.
There is endless power all the way up to 6.5K rpm where the stock R32 at 3K rpm, usually runs out of power. This is the first time I have seen or experienced the ABT Supercharged R32 reach the redline and yet feel sustained power. It is true what ABT have claimed regarding the availability of power up to 6K rpm from their ABT R32 Data Sheet.
Driving on Manual mode is another story in itself. This is where the ABT Supercharger R32 takes advantage of all the power available under the bonnet. Every gear shift is a sweet spot. There is endless power all the way up to 6.5K rpm. The ABT Supercharger whine is addictive. The combination of the ABT Supercharger whine and the R32 exhaust note is a sound match made in heaven.
You would have noticed, a lot of emphasis has been placed on the new found top end power of the ABT Supercharger R32 that you beg to ask what is the low end response like. Answer, 25% - 30% improvement than the stock R32. The stock R32 has linear power as we all know but the ABT Supercharger changes that to something a bit more “pushy”. You could say it pulls you back to your seat if all of a sudden you become heavy footed. It is not however raw or to a point where it sickens your stomach with the G-force acceleration. Its more sedate than that. More dignified. The analogy I can think of would be along the lines of having “sex” that lasts for eternity. Some peaks and troughs and when you push it, it will want to explode all the way up to SIX THOUSAND REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE. Whilst this so called climax is transpiring, you have the glorious ABT Supercharger whine and the R32 exhaust note to complete your mortal experience.
Driving on Sport mode has not transpired. Logically and responsibly, you do not want to put too much stress on a car with its newly found parts. In the same way, this is the reason why we have not opted for a Dyno as yet. Probably another 300-600kms under our belt with the new ABT Supercharger would bring us closer to the Dyno machine.
Few immediate things we have noticed with the car.
1.The petrol mix sound you hear when you turn the car on is louder. No big deal really.
2.The reverse gear takes few seconds to kick in before it engages and moves the car.
3.You hear the fan more after the car is turned off.
4.When the car is moving, the ABT Supercharger whining sound is always present and gets amplified as you accelerate. The ABT Supercharger whine is never intrusive and is always welcomed.
5.The temperature gauge is exactly the same as a stock R32 sitting at 90 degrees Celsius even after spirited driving.
What we are yet to test
1.It is too early to measure what the petrol consumption is like. Perhaps the next 2 weeks will tell a tale or two. We will post the figures in this thread to keep everyone informed.
2.Dyno comparisons before and specifically after will also be carried out as we get more kms into the car.
3.Sport mode driving will also be included and will be interesting to see how the ECU handles the down shift that the stock R32 usually brings you within certain speed/rpm levels.
4.0-100kms sprint figures is also a good number to gauge. I feel however that ABT's claim of 0-100kms in 5.0 seconds is a little understated. If my initial feel is correct, I believe its closer to 4.5s to a 100kms.
5.Launch Control will follow also after more kms travelled. Will also post the 0-100kms sprint figure in this thread.
Overall impressions
I believe ABT Sportsline have packaged a very good Supercharger kit for the VW MKV R32. Power is now available everywhere in the rev counter which is a huge improvement compared to the stock R32. There is new found urgency in ABT Sportsline Supercharger R32 when you accelerate. The build quality is world class to the naked eye and first impressions have surpassed our expectation. The ABT Sportsline R32 is definitely a sleeper car still, but if you look closely, the front mounted intercooler might suggest otherwise. Oh well, you cannot have everything.
JayC and Jig would like to thank Thomas Ullmann from Ramspeed.Com.Au for looking after our cars and for keeping us updated with our car's journey. His professionalism and respect is commendable and highly recommend him to anyone in this forum. The entire ABT Sportsline Supercharger kit installation took a little over 3 weeks. The ECU had to be shipped to Germany because these were the first 2 ABT Sportsline Supercharger projects in Australia and ABT Sportsline wanted to get it right first time, every time.

great write up Jig! why not have merged this with your current build?
can't wait to see this beauty again on Sunday
Since this review, the following reports were realized.
1. Leveraging Launch Control and with 7 attempts, the ABT Sportsline Supercharged MKV R32's best 0-100kms sprint was recorded at 4.7 seconds using my Race Logic Sat Performance Box
2. Petrol Consumption has remained the same. I still fill her up every 14 days and that includes spirited driving.
3. The sport mode behaves as it should but the difference is, it likes to hit the redline which is just fine with me.
Below is the ABT Performance Data Sheet

Wanted to Paolo but this build also includes JayC's who is also a member here in our forum but has been quiet due to his recent new baby addition. Once that settles, I am sure he will start popping in here and will be joining us on our GTGs.

Excellent write up Jig.
Great to see Jason and yourself pioneer ABT kits in Australia.
This is what makes great reading and brings a forum together.
Passionate individuals like yourself sharing with us enthusiasts.
This is one impressive kit - perfect fit and OEM look
I have been in Jig's car and have shared the ''moment'' what a treat this R32 is.
Go the Aussies!!!
Great write up Jose, thanks for taking your time to review the kit!
Should sound mad with the Capristo now, eh Jose?
Thanks for the kudos everyone. I decided to go the S/C route because I already have turbo cars so I wanted something different. I have always admired the SC whine and the different feel it has compared to turbo cars. I love the HPA/HGP turbo kits but I am reserving that for my wife's R36.

BALLER!!!
Have been in JayC's car on a spirited drive, the supercharger whine is in your face! Lovely response which is very similar to the stock R32's linear power delivery feel but unlike a stock R32 it has a bit more of a peaky feel up top which is nice.

Great write up Jose! ABT should be paying you guys for the great advertising!
For me, the R32 has just enough power. Just..But add a supercharger kit and i can only imagine how hard it pulls...hmm!
Hey Guys thanks for all the good feedback - Yeh, it's pretty awesome having a bit of sleeper cruising the streets. I know Jig laughs every time I tell him about a run I've had with a expensive euro car. Lets say there's been a few whine down windows asking me what the f*#ck have you done to that R32.
Should be getting the Capristo in a couple of weeks so can't wait to enjoy the combo of the SC & Capristo. Then need to fine tune the suspension as word has it there could be an appearance of one SC R32 in Motors Hot Tuner edition later in the year.

Early Video attempt to capture the ABT Sportsline Supercharger. Very short video.
... And Here are both JayC and Jig's car revving as part of the professional Video Shoot to come out soon hosted by Ramspeed.
I was hoping it would sound like a Mini Cooper S or a Messershmidt kind of sound. Sounds brutal nonetheless.
In January 2010, Ramspeed hired a professional videographer to shoot both our ABT Supercharged R32. There's been a delay due to other priorities, et al.
Anyway, the video is now ready.
This is from Youtube Raw Channel
