just want to know if it's safe to buy a camera off ebay?
looks like a good deal, FAR cheaper than Australian retail.
Any thoughts.

Substitute Australia for USA :)
Im pretty sure nikon have moved to a global price equalisation to eliminate the need for grey market internet sales... Check with nikon first
check out DWI cameras. Cheaper than cost price of retailers here

310, are you buying off ebay used or new?
Assuming you're buying new - If all is working like clockwork, then no problems. It's when you need to send it back under warranty then that's where the difficulty may start as it might need to go off shore (usually Hong Kong or Singapore). You also have the option of buying through online grey importers like DWI and citiwide as suggested by saad. Once again similar situation with the warranty.
For yourself, you will need to decide whether the local Australian warranty is worth the price difference.

providing the ebay seller is a reputable one yes.. DigitalREv is probably the biggest of them... i have bought camera's off ebay before... no issues.. just be warned..... warranty is a very very grey area...... when things go wrong.. apart from that....
if you walk into a shop and you haggle and discount.. you can get some pretty good price discounts here in aussie retail..
well worth trying to discount and haggle your way to a cheaper deal.

As far as I'm concerned Canon is the best camera manufacturer so I'd choose Canon. And what concerns ebay, once I ordered 2 deliveries and I got only 1 so I don't trust this web site

thats an issue with the seller NOT ebay website.... its no different from you buying stuff from a market or shopping centre ... and if a shop/reseller in that market/shopping centre rips you off.. thats no fault of the market/shopping centre. thats a pretty weak statement to make
if you buy from a dodgy seller..... well thats the risk you take... thats why ebay has a rating system to try and minimize the risk to you. at the end of the day if you used paypal.... your purchases are typically protected.. and paypal are responsible for reimbursing for any fraud incurred.
and as far as I am concerned... canon is NOT the best camera manufacturer.... and I'm a canon owner and user for the last 10 years
i've used a lot of high end nikons.. and i can guarantee you stock for stock..(factory settings) the nikons take better photos than equivalent canon models....
thats my experience.. however i still prefer canon... because its a personal choice..
a personal choice you have does not immediately mean your personal choice is the best. how do you quantify and qualify your statement that canon is the best ?

Canon VS Nikon......both are good at what they do...both are very similar in terms of functionality and what the DSLR offers, but for me, I prefer NIKON. It all boils down to personal preference with a Canon VS Nikon. U need to use both to see which one u like. Ive used a Nikon D3X and compared it against a Canon 5D MKII. For me, the nikon was more user friendly I found. Plus, Nikon has a history of being a pure camera/imaging company whereas CANON has many other products, not just cameras. That said, Canons are just as competent and in some aspects better than a Nikon but for me, an overall package would be the Nikon + personal preference. But at the end of the day, theyre both the same shit, different smell

If u decide to buy a camera online then just go to eglobal direct store. They get the same stock as digirev or ddp in nort sydney but they promise a guaranteed 2 day shiiping. The cheapest price still for me and also for servicing an avera one week turnaround. For a 5d its like 1.9k at the moment, i havnt seen a store cheaper than that.
