Correct, Big Yellow! It's an RCD510 and it took me about 10 minutes to install once I had the right tools for the job :)

The plastic trim piece around the stereo is held in with clips only. I removed it by squeezing my fingers in under each side of it on the bottom part (just above the climate control) and pulling with even force until it popped out at the bottom. I then slid the end of a smooth ended handle on a spoon covered with a rag under the edges and slid it around and levered the trim piece off bit by bit using a gentle even force. You've just got to ensure you don't make it flex excessively.

Once that's off, you're left with 4 T20 Torx screws (the ones with a star shape end if you didn't know) to undo and the unit will slide right out towards you. Undo the harness plug and aerial plug at the back, then you're ready to fit the new unit. Plug the two plugs into the new unit, slide it back into the guides and replace the Torx screws. To reattach the trim piece you just have to line it up with the holes and push it in gently starting from the top and make your way down.

I picked mine up off eBay for just above the $300 mark. :)

Hope that helps

John what camber plates were they? I was thinking of selling my Sachs, and getting some VW racing 2 way suspension (3 way is waaay too expensive and complicated), but then I came across the H2Sport Camber plates which look good. I'm also looking at VW Racing engine mounts soon, had my eye on them since before i got the GTI! Infact had my eye on their whole catalogue! Including the brake.

If youc could elaborate on the camber plates - and was that with your PSS10's?

Got the forge twintake installed yesterday.

First impressions is that this thing is LOUD. Induction noise yes, but the DV is just too loud now. This may have somethign to do with the fact the DV needs replacing, but will report back once its replaced.

There's def a low end response increase, and a bit more power 2. I managed to sping the wheels in 2nd yesterday, which Ive never done before, in a straight line, on the factory ECU.

Will only get better once I re-install the bluefin :)

Will post pics tonight after work.

Is there a pic of those lights installed?

Not that I've been able to find. The only thing I've found is an introductory video on YouTube by TMTuning.

I've got no particular desire for LED DRL's. I just wanted something to give the car a bit of individuality.

Yep, kind of like a BOV, but lower pitched. I could hear it before when not going to fast, but now its rather loud!

Pharkus

My initial thoughts when ppl were posting on MkV about these was no. The reservation was that the DRL LED's are not in line with the MkV front. Aussie dollar is good and if these are just a straight plug'n'play and you want to be different, do it for yourself. You will however need to remove your bumper etc to install so this will not be as easy as tails.

Then we can see a pic with them installed >D

All else fails Chris there are angel eyes available for MkV's.....HI JUSTIN! :p

Just getting opinions Mal. At the end of the day, it's my decision, right or wrong. Having had a look at the pics on GolfMKV, as suggested by Paolo, I've come to the conclusion that it would look "yucky".

100% on that Christopher. And Mal, getting opinions when you ask for it is one thing. But on all forums I run I get bombarded by people suggesting I "should" do this or I "should" do that. I have to admit it gets pretty frustrating at times as I like to think I know what I'm doing and that I don't need the guidance.

Maybe if people used "could" instead of "should" it would be less frustrating. IE: You "could" do this? Instead of: You "should" do this.

At the end of the day, like Christopher said above, it's my decision and I understand that people are only trying to help by suggesting wheels I should buy, etc. etc. :)

Pharkus
16-04-2010, 10:13 AM
You'd have to consider what they look like at night as well Chris. I kinda for and against without seeing in person or a good pic it's hard to tell. The curvature of the DRL's not aligning with the front of the car might be less noticeable at night when everything is dark. If there's nothing else that you can do, perhaps this is something that you take on in the meantime. It will definitely look different.
