Just thought I'd share this set on the forum.

A while ago I emailed an old acquaintance that had allowed me and my old business partner to photograph his Ferrari F430 Spyder back in 2008.

Fast forward to 2010 and I have a new set of photographs of this car (the rear 3/4 photo is from the 2008 shoot, but has been edited a great deal).

The owner was/is ecstatic about them. The first shot is his favourite, he has the version of it where he is in the drivers seat. I edited him out of the version below in post, recreated the seat by hand.

Wow very very nice. Can you tell us a bit about the editing process to make the car look so smooth etc.

And was it shot in a studio?

Thanks for the nice comments everyone :).

I took the photos in a closed carpark with a smooth ceiling. I used 3 off camera flashes for every photo, multiple exposures for each, merged in post.

Basically the theory behind lighting a car is to light what you want reflected in the paint. All reflections that I weren't happy with were removed in post manually, or cleaned up. In some instances I created the reflections myself, or even recreated areas where something had reflected and I'd lost info (e.g. dashboard, seats behind the windscreen).

I love doing this stuff. :)
