Hello!
I am currently in the process of selling my current car (S15 200sx) and purchasing a Golf VR6
I guess i'll use this thread as a place holder for the time being but i'll ask some question to begin with
Question: 5 x 100 is a really really stupid PCD and it makes me sad :(
Has anyone converted to 5 x 114.3 on a VR6/MK3 before?? Or is it even possible?
The wheels available in 5 x 100 are all very weak
Cheers!

Brendan!
I bought some VR6 BBS wheels and they went straight onto my Celica no worries so maybe look for some hot Celica rims? (lol).

I've looked into re-tapping the hubs but they're a little small - 5x112 was too close to the circumference of the hub, so 5x114.3 is definitely out of the question.
You can look into using adapters, if you find some high offset 5x114.3 or 5x112 wheels (ET35 or higher). I had a set of BBS RS that came standard on a Soarer (specs were 16x7 and 16x8, ET45 all-around) and had a custom set of adapters made up (25mm front, 33mm rear). Fitted great (a few mm poke) with some stretch on the 8" wide wheels.
Redrilling is also an option, but limited to wheels that have the bolt pattern covered up (like BBS RS, Volk GTC etc), small centrebore (less than 70mm ideal, some cases even less), and hub mount pattern (flat-back most desirable). Some hub mounts have a "flower" pattern instead - you could have the existing bolt pattern filled in so redrilling is possible.
Other 5x100 cars include Mk4 Golf, A3 (same generation as Mk4 Golf), Mk1 TT, Subaru passenger cars (Impreza, Liberty, Legacy) and as mentioned above, Celica. However, OEM or made-to-fit Subaru and Celica wheels will not bolt straight on to the VR6 as they have a smaller centrebore. Easily remedied though - anyone with a lathe should be able to open it up (it's only bigger by 1 or 2mm in diameter). I think some Jeeps had 5x100 pattern too - there are a few examples in the US with Mk4s running Jeep wheels (no adapters).
Makes for wheel fitment a lot more interesting - I've tried all options above (except Subaru wheels) and found them all to work just fine. Yes there's always a safety issue with using adapters/spacers and redrilled wheels, but if done properly (professional machinist doing the job, correct equipment being used for machining, torque wrench to tighten wheels etc.) then there shouldn't be a problem.

Wow thanks heaps Justin and Ray
Looks like I have a few options available
I plan on doing it right from the start, hence my question about converting the hubs

The VR6 Golf was the first Golf I ever viewed at the dealer. It was at Rushcutters Bay Sydney, I thing BMW are now there.
I was only 19 at the time and thought, humm one day...
I had a VR6 they are an unreal golf back in there day!!! True hot hatch!!
5/100 is the same wrx/sti etc, so there are heaps of wheels to pick from.. Check out SSR Japanese forged wheels..

I'm currently trying to track down a manual Polo 77TSI and not having much luck.
Anyone know where there might be one for sale? Anyone got some inside info?
Thanks

Only thing that I know about the MK3 VR6's is that the ones with higher km's are more sought after as the higher the kms, the more chance that the parts which are prone to failure on the MK3's would have been replaced and repaired.
pm ray (rayray086) as he has a MK3, not a VR6, although he knows A LOT of information on MK3's in general and can probably tell you where to look and what to look for when buying your VR6
alternatively, you can PM devin (VR53KS) as he has a VR6 and can probably tell you from an owners perspective as to what its like to live with, what parts are most prone to failure, etc etc

Love you An....no wait that's not right. I just refuse to hump legs round here. I'm an honest bloke, call it how I see it.
When I do know some thing I do try and help out, sometimes I am incorrect, like anyone.
I thought your ego had taken too much of a beating and you had left here?
You are highly amusing...
