Hi guys,

After seeing Fab's very cool ecliptech shift-I set up and after trawling the net for similar products, I am on the hunt for a neat unit that displays the gear and has shift lights/lighting similar to that of the ecliptech.

The only problem is I can't find one after a fair bit of googling/ebay. There are plenty out there for those on two wheels but my search for a unit for a car has come up with nought.

I like this (hit the pic with the '6' on it) but it's just the gear indicator

Anyone know of a nice oem type combo unit for shift light/gear indicator combo?

Thanks :)

http://www.vwgolf.net.au/showthread.php?317-Bigger-DSG-in-dash-gear-indicator

JF had pics of a VW MK5 GTI in Japan which replaced the OEM water gauge in the dash with a DSG gear select indicator....from memory it was a perfect fit. However I dont know how to do it, where the link is, if there is even a DIY for it or where the picture is

Sorry andrew :(

Hey thanks Steve I'll keep looking for more info on this one, I'd also be happy with a dash mounted unit too. Cheers mate and thanks :)

no worries. But if you want one integrated in the dash, chances are the whole dash would have to be taken apart, customised and modified, wired up, soldered etc, then put back. Its no simple task by any means but if you can find information about it that'd be great too cuz I'm pretty curious myself

Nah I want it dash height ( a hud would be better but been down that road before lol). I had a look at that link again and someone said that the TM Tuning Gear indicator only works for manual transmission-checked the site again and yes it's only for MT :(

Well after a lot more searching and some phonecalls to some racing accessories places, no one seems to have one or know of one. So I contacted one of the numerous companies that do them fir bikes and below was their reply:

"We done quite a few cars though I don’t think we have ever fitted to one of your cars. Most modern cars use canbus though and most modern speedos use the ABS sensors for the speedometer. We sometimes find the voltage from the sensor is too low for the DG8/DGV to pick up. If you want to do some research the gear indicator needs at least 2.5V to work – and has a maximum of around 100 V. It will “see” anything from 10Hz to 4KHz".

Putting it to the brains trust on the forum re his question about voltage etc, do our cars have the necessary voltage required? From what he's saying if the voltage is there do you think it'd work?

Thanks

Heaps more gear indicators now on the market. I am still after one as the DGS display is way too small for my liking.

Google images: gear indicator - SO many to choose from. But an all in one:

ULTRA.

Also google PIVOT. They do a lot of shift lights.

PS: I am thinking that SURELY someone can make one of these bike ones work with our DGS cars?

Thanks Justin, strangely none of those came up in my searches and I will have a look for those. It would seen too that a lot of the gear indicators are for MT (from my limited searching) only. That's why I'm looking at the bike ones due to their sequential gear box being similar to DSG. Also race shops are telling me i have to buy a 5K motec set up to get gear info-they're not aware of any stand alone gear indicator/shift light combo There was a product going around a few years ago

http://forums.evolutionm.net/sale-interior-exterior-sound-styling/528294-new-wrc-style-shift-light-gear-indicator.html

This would be great but I cannot find it anywhere :(

I'll keep looking but if anyone thinks they may have an answer to the voltage questions, I'd def do a experimental purchase to try and make it work. No idea where/how if place the bike one but need to see if it works first.

Bump :)

Can the brains trust help out below re the voltage?

Thanks

I forgot to ask Dedy today. He'd surely have an idea. Will do ASAP.
