Hey Ed, there are a fair few good pricing threads on VWWC including a spreadsheet:

35K is pretty cheap when you consider how much car you are buying.

I don't mind sharing what we paid:

MY10 118TSI Manual
Sports Pack (Cloth)
VW Bluetooth
Metallic Paint
Genuine Floor Mats (the good ones)
Rear bumper protector (clear vinyl protector strip)
Premium Plates
Full tank of 98RON
VW Umbrella and a hat ;P

Drive away $32k flat

Salesperson = Tracey Ryan @ Barloworld VW Mascot

Price was inclusive of Corporate Discount and this was last year before the recent price drops. You should be able to do a lot better than $35k for a DSG model. We did have to wait a couple of months for our car to come over on the boat but it was definitely worth the wait.

118TSI DSG - Candy White

It could be pushed down a little more, but I'm pretty happy with the deal. Coming in 1.5 - 2 months...

Good choice - Candy White looks great. It was actually our first choice for colour but the wait was going to be too long to get one. Since a Reflex Silver was already on the boat we took that instead.

yeh.. we actually took whats on the boat too.. lol, these things sells hard. We had a hard time deciding the color as all of them Looks good in their own right.

How are you enjoying ur 118TSI .. I took it for a test drive earlier with the 7-speed DSG and it was quiet zippy. Not in the level of GTI but fun enough and linear like n/a. I'm sure the manual will x2 the driving experience. :)

It's up to 9,000km now and no major problems to report. After a couple of weeks we had a small hiccup with the climate control (the vents weren't switching over to feet/face just stuck in the one position) but it came good on it's own 2 days later and hasn't played up again since. I performed the 7,500km oil change myself using genuine oil & filter ($105 total price) which I would definitely recommend if you're capable. Cheap insurance I reckon! I'd also have to say make sure you stick with 98ron fuel - even though it says 95ron is fine on the user manual, there have been reports of cars melting piston rings so I personally won't risk running a lower quality fuel.

I test drove the manual and DSG prior to purchase - I think the DSG felt a tiny bit quicker as the ratios were really well suited, but the manual is a good drive too. Mrs Dopey preferred the manual so that's what she got. They're certainly not a fast car but plenty of power for everyday driving and the torque is sensational. A brilliant power band for a 1.4L engine. As soon as the 15,000km service is done on the car I am going to get a APR Stage 1 ECU flash done which supposedly increases power to near stock GTI levels. Haven't heard any negative reports about the APR tune on these cars, although they are a little pricey.

I'm also about to install a RCD-510 stereo this week, they go for a few hundred bucks on eBay which is a lot less than VW ask on the options sheet. The RNS-510 Sat-nav units are easy enough to come by at cheaper prices as well if that sort of thing interests you.

thx for the write up dopey..
Initially I was quiet skeptical with vw's 1.4 twincharger reliability. But I guess that's the goodness of buying brand new. IF theres a fault, Just chuck it back to the dealer and get it replaced for free. I'm thinking to tune it too later on, and still deciding between apr or revo. Revo being a little more aggressive is a little more riskier imo. So unfortunate, that there's no apr dealers in the southern side of sydney :(.
Keep me updated with the RCD-510, apparently Anthony(apmitchell) might know someone who supplies these system around sydney at reasonable price. I'll be looking around too.. I think they're just direct plug and play.... hopefully lol
