Hi Everyone,
just joined the VW club and bought my very first Golf GTI mk5 in tornado red! and totally loving it!
i was wondering if some of you guys could suggest some nice rims to put on it - i don't intend to lower my car because my drive way will cause too much scraping. SO i was wondering if anyone knew rims that would look good on the stock height?
i ideally want some black rims.
thanks for the suggestions guys!

Flick through the MkV thread in appearacne gallery.
19" Helios OEM wheels in black maybe?

first, what's your budget? rims go from $150 each to... $2000 each for Golf fitment.
second, you want 'look' or 'function'?
third, consider tyre cost, 17" cheaper than 18", 18" cheaper than 19"; in the same brand and model.
fourth, on stock height, imo stay with OEM width of max 8" wide and offset +50 (18" Kathoum, 18" Vision, 19" Tallageda) to keep the 'look' balanced and trouble free.
fifth, thin spokes in 19" will make your oem gti brakes look small, something not many people consider.

Hey Guys,
thanks for the responses.
I wouldn't mind keeping it 17 inch as im pretty happy with that might even go up to 18inch as well.
i probably am going more for looks but att he same time don't want it to hamper the performance as well.
my budget i probably want to keep it 1500 max for all four
know any good sites for rims etc?

Cheap and aggressive. Won't rub if you keep it stock height and use 225 wide rubber.

Hi Justin - will +40 offset fit on mk5? won't it rub against the guard?

would the +40 offset go past the guards as well for the MK5?

I've got Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 in black 18" on a Tornado Red GTI and I think they look awesome for the price. I might be a little biased though, :)

Welcome mate. I had a Mkv gti, put 18s on and it transformed the look of the car completely. Go the 18s I say :)

My car isn't lowered but it's on my to do list. I think the offset was 45 from memory.

Yep - Some 18"s with decent tyres (from Tirerack) is easily done for around $2k and will transform the look of your car. Plenty to choose from around the place and some good deals going on this site too. Good luck.

have a look around at different setups. people will tell you you can't do +30, or +40. Make sure you take into account wheel width AND wheel offset (ET) when choosing wheels. Google "wheel offset calculator" and grab a rule and see what will fit in what specs.
Not a hard task at all mate :)

Mine aren't up for sale but you can get them from Demon Tweeks in the UK for under a grand delivered to your doorstep.
If you look through the members rides section you'll find a few crappy iPhone shots of the car.
