Hey folks,
All work has been completed by Ramspeed, Thomas and Andrew spent many months with me going over the details, swapping ideas, listening to my nonsense, getting me back on track, offering suggestions and toying with ideas. I cannot speak highly enough of the time and consideration invested in each step, infinite thanks must go to Jack for bringing it all together.

WTF?
Bombshell right there. I don't even know if that's serious or can be done but it sounds absolutely gorgeous. Though if you said twin turbo charged would've been even more jaw dropping.
Some "custom" ideas right there...What is a door handle delete + remote pop? You mean like, lambo doors or something?

Cheers Rob,
Probably around 400Hp / 400Nm, Hence the need to overdrive the supercharger, ABT design the kit to be OEM not extreme. it complies to some very strict and fancy sounding acronyms, so now i've got one it's time to void the warranty!
Jose is already on that path, if you take a peek at his thread he has completed, the work needed to take the next step, with pulleys, headers, cats, next step is the tune ...

Things have come a long way in modding R32's in Australia since the MKIV days I can see.
Out of interest, after dropping so much coin - why the fake RNS510? Just seemed a bit odd.

That's for sure Adam. The ABT folks needed to comply with TUV and the easiest way to do that is keep the modification to OEM standards. The SC manufacturer actually says the SC in the ABT unit has so much more potential. The acceleration speed is spot on an OEM R32. Put lightweight wheels & BBK and catback exhaust, some great suspension mods and you will find the acceleration around 4.8s dead... My MKV R32 did 4.8s to a 100k fully loaded. I dont put too much emphasis on acceleration anyway but that is the number right now...

Hi Jig,
When you say "so much more potential", do they have any quoted figures? What is it currently boosting to, what is it capable of? For stage 2, are you opening up the engine or keeping stock internals?
Adamolee
09-09-2011, 03:00 PM
Jig may have more inside info on this, he always whip's out some facts when you need em ...
As far as i am aware however there are no figures available, as there are only 3 kits in Aus, all of which are stage 1 (out of the box) it's not been done here, i beleive for Jig he will be leaving internals alone, however as he has extractors and high flow cats fitted he can overdrive the compressor, couple that with fatter injectors (possibly different fuel pumps too) and a custom tune and there you have stage 2. my understanding is ABT will either not warrant or not perform the tune, so to pull all this together we need some additional input from Kubatech. Jose is on the verge of making this happen so i am very keen to get all the details. he has updated his build thread with the steps taken so far
as for stage 3, who knows...
it is possible to push the R32 engine past 600Hp on stock internals, obviously cooling, lubricants, rods & bolts are all factors. but if you consider what AP has done with his you can see the potential of the engine.

Even though the R32 is special (especially in Aus) regarding FI, normal FI rules would still apply. More, dense, cooler air and good velocity with the right amount of fuel.
ABT boost pressure is only 6psi with the S/C? There would definitely be potential left in the setup for higher boost pressure. (Is the charger a Vortech unit branded ABT or??)
More cfm + more fuel (big squirters (stay off redtube Clem!))
As always, it's in the tune and these ABT cars seem to be getting great service from Ramspeed + partners regarding their cars so the software will surely get sorted.
I didn't notice a head spacer to decompress in the parts list, perhaps that (from VF or similar) is an option to drive the charger even harder. Add some bigger valves + Schrick camshafts or similar and has to be more in this combination before losing too much of the "OEM" in chase of "spastic".
Not from personal experience but looking at R32OC/vortex etc, even the little 2.8 12V can push 400whp (proper wheel not hub dyno crap) with a head spacer and a GT35R. Plenty of R32s with similar turbos and bigger on standard internals, though Jose would forge it for "Peace of Mind" anyway, which isn't a bad thing after all.
GL in the chase Adam, nice 32 :)

AP's R32 engine is single turbo, not sure what HP it puts out but as per the dyno day it is running 216 KW at all wheels in his Golf Wagon. Let's say 30% drivetrain loss through the AWD system as has been quoted many times before as an average. That's about 410 HP at the crank if i'm not mistaken.
HPA suggest replacing Conrods at 450 HP on VWVortex:
Conrods should be linked to HP..or if you track the car. 450+..get the bearings,…autocross/road course, ¼ race..get the bearings!
I also doubt highly his R36 TT engine is running on stock internals.
You seem like a careful guy, if you replaced clutchpacks for 400 Nm of torque then you should be looking at strengthening the engine internals before increasing boost :)

You know what I know Adam. Cant wait to get our cars sorted with Stage 2. Your right, keeping pistons and rods stock for now as I really dont plan to hit 500HP+ on this car. Heck, I even have stock DSG plates and OEM DSG software tune, unlike your HGP ones. I think you are better poised for Stage 2 than I am(LOL).
The ABT SC kit already has a second high pressure fuel pump installed. So it can take more boost. It needs bigger fuel injectors however to make Stage 2. You have to remember that superchargers are different to turbo chargers as far as induction is concerned. SC power is via pulley/belt where turbos via exhaust.
SC also generates less heat. Less heat, more cold air stuffed into that VR6 engine. In fact, not sure if you have noticed, but during summer, my SC R32's performance is not hindered at all by our summer heat/humidity but my 911 for example, suffers badly. Same with my Viggen back in the day.
Even though the R32 is special (especially in Aus) regarding FI, normal FI rules would still apply. More, dense, cooler air and good velocity with the right amount of fuel.

Spot on Mal. Longevity and reliability is where it is at although Adam is the crazier of the two. His build is sounding angry and its great to see this level of modifying in our country. Big kudos'. The ABT SC is from Switzerland. I forget the brand. Need to get a torch and have a look under the bonnet.

Regarding Clemente and jose's posts above,
HGP's state that they change the bearings at 500Nm and the shells at 630Nm, There is no talk of rods, bolts or caps etc ... that is not to say it is not a wise idea.
as Jose has just said he will be leaving his for now, as for me this will definately happen.
My engine has done many more miles and a lot on the track, so a bulltproof bottom end is on the cards but not till i'm ready to increase boost.
discussion like this is a testament to the wisdom contained within the community, great stuff guys

I know it's me saying with it but forget the owner, a decent sized turbo + the 3.2 + the mods I'd be hoping for a lot more than what he got. Hopefully he gets the numbers he deserves with a few more tweaks. Johns Golf R made 210 with basic bolt on mods, so there is more left in his beast of a wagon surely.

Mal i definately need to pick your brains re: internals / engine rebuild!
I'm just the internet, don't believe eveyrthing you read.
The largest thing to consider is what Ramspeed will be comfortable doing and backing up when things go wrong because I can't support your expensive habit :P
I'm glad Jose went with C2 with his Mk4, hope its a pleasant experience, but the C2/United Motorsport cars seem to be a bit more aggressive (it's the point of doing all this right?) and getting the big numbers O/S. The annoying part about it is nothing in Aus compares to O/S at all.

650Hp twin Supercharged R32 (http://www.stormdevelopments.co.uk/twin-rotrex-r32.html)
That is crazy setup Adam. Let me be one of the firsts to sit next to you when this hapens please. I like the bi-supercharger setup as well, more so than twin superchargers. Same applies to bi-turbos. Smaller chargers for lower rpms to give it a quick burst then when the smaller setup runs out of puff, the bigger charger keeps pulling all the way to the red line. Very, very nice indeed. Do it!

Oh for sure there is more in it. He dyno'ed it the next day and got 236 kw ATW, I Just went by the last 'known' record on the forums so as to be correct.
I think before it got put in his wagon it was doing 280 KW atw.
No one's asked the question;
Does it dose?
But seriously, this is insane. A little awkward when you walk out and see four strangers admiring and taking photos of your car :P

A little , but still nice to meet the crew and to be honest it was the first time anyone had ever stopped for a chat to admire the car,
re: Doseing, no. The charger is connected directly to the crankshaft unlike a turbo so it does what the rev counter does, very addictive when in sport mode and the throttle blips on downshifts ...

Do it!
We are in danger of getting way ahead of ourselves here and i am hijacking my own thread but its either that engine build in a 4WD Rocco or one of these Linky (http://www.undergroundracing.com/vehicles/audi-r8-v10)
There is another company who builds a Twin charged R8 with magnetically coupled superchargers ...

Mod 1 / Stage 4 perhaps ... ?
The standard Golf has never had such a powerful engine as the new R32. Its 3.2-litre V6 engine is a gem of German Engineering. The power output of the R32's transverse six-cylinder engine is 240 BHP (at 6250 rpm) capable of 0.60mph in just 6.6 seconds.
The R32's four-valve six-cylinder engine is distinguished by its very acute 15-degree V angle. Two overhead camshafts with continuous intake and exhaust camshaft adjustment are used in the cylinder head. The adjustment angles are 52 degrees for the intake camshaft and 22 degrees for the exhaust camshaft. The valves are driven by roller rocker fingers with hydraulic clearance compensation. Each cylinder has its own ignition coil.
From a technical point of view, the 3.2-litre V6 engine, with its crankshaft with seven main bearings, is of a similar concept to the 2.8-litre engine, which powers the Golf, Bora and Sharan V6. However, it has been improved in so many different aspects that it really ought to be regarded as a new generation of that engine.
Our gas flow measurements show that it has very good inlet flow but there was a lot of room for improvement on the exhaust side. After a challenging and extensive period on the flow bench we were able to raise the Inlet flow by 6% to 161.6 CFM. On the exhaust side we were able to make a huge increase of 30% to 129CF. This level of flow means this engine is capable of over 400BHP in normally aspirated form. (Turbo applications are popular on this head and we would expect over 800 bhp if this head were used with a turbo modification.)

Bright lights, curved surfaces etc ...

The annoying part about it is nothing in Aus compares to O/S at all.

OP, Whats the deal with your charger, where is the pully hanging off? (seems like it is on the wrong side)
Do MK5's have a completely different setup to that off the MK4?
Edit* read back and see that you have your charger running of your crank. Intersting.
It is a great little setup very nice MK5 I dont know about this stg 1/2/3 crap, you are at stage you if you ask me.
Definitley run a solid bottom end, cams, injectors and lower the compression when you want to unleash the kracken!
Me Im doing custom stuff but also running a water/air intecooler, i would recommend running a larger heat exchanger if and when you do light up the boost gauge.

Getting back to the LED tail's,
right now i'm not sure how I feel about the finished product,
They are very hard to capture unless you are looking at them for real, but i have noticed a slight haze in the lens which is due to the smoked effect, it is only noticable when you put your face up to them but it is there.
there are other products on the market that will achieve the same result such as Lamin-X which can be applied to any light, LED, OEM or otherwise, so if anyone is considering fitting smoked LED's of any type, i would urge you to compare the two, happy to let you see what i am talking about, just PM me.
depending on the amount and direction of light, they will have a different colour and i can see why people see them as brown, but as Jig mentioned, in flesh this is not the case, a blacked out car is always going to be tricky to shoot

Full internal rebuild is on the cards however i am focussed on BBK next, then the new front end, a handful of monor aesthetic tweaks and blemishes require attention, however i have already started to gather info and suppliers for the components needed to rebuild the block and heads..
re: the charger placement, the ABT compressor sits in the middle of the engine bay and is mounted to the DSG, drive for the compressor does run off the crank pulley which is located on the other side of the engine however drive os fed to it from a forged shaft which runs under the intake runners, which is why it looks to be placed in an unusual location. this allows plenty of room for the compressor, charge cooler and CAI
Looking forward to seeing your mods take shape, especially when you use the word "custom"

G'day mate,
it's not a showstopper, but whenever you buy a product that has not been tested or seen you run a risk,
don't get me wrong though, the effect is still very pleasing, and the look really does fit what i was hoping to achieve for the car. it is a minor detail which i was not expecting and again, is only evident at a particular angle from close up.
many didnt notice until i pointed it out,
did i mention i am a chronic perfectionist ?

Brakes will be ordered shortly but i'm sticking with my blue theme, however i am doing my best to specify the finish and colour of the hat, i know it's bananas but is important to me, discs will be slotted and callipers will be OEM blue with .:R logo - before i had the car detailed they did actually look black!

Hey buddy, if you dont wish to buy smoked lighst there is a product called Lamin-X which comes in various colour finishes, one of which is tinted, Stephen used to have it on his Accord and it looked slick, do some googling and you will find out more, definately a good value way to get the effect on any style of light,

You crack me up mate,
wheels are ADV - 7 - 3 piece forged concave finished in satin black, 18 x 8.5, with an offset of 45, 225 dunlop sport max all round, this gives a slightly strecthed effect and exagerats the concave of the wheel nicely, they are extremely light, i have a 2nd set of centre caps which i am getting CNC'd but have not had time to finalise the design so hopefully this will bring a new element to the car as what i am hoping to achieve has never been done, even the guys at ADV where shocked when i suggested it
rear badge is is the factory unit, resprayed by Ramspeed who now have a pertnership with a fantastic body shop, they will be doing some work for me shortly to repair, roll and flare my guards and some more custom paintwork, all very subtle and of course, BLACK!
I think if you take it one step at a time you will get the right balance, i only made 1 change at a time to the rear of the car so i was able to get a feel for what each step would look like, wait until your badges are fitted, then consider lights, once they are fitted, see what comes next. i think you will be very pleased when you see your coded badges,

they can be fitted at home or by a tint shop or detailer such as Reflect Effect..

Morning chief,
BBK is still in planning phase, it will happen, without giving it all away some of the things we are duscussing
hat colour & finish, weight (reduce unsprung), slot design (not using drilled), calliper manufacturer and so on
Brakes for me are as much an aesthetic component of the car as well as performance, the car does not live on a track so i should be able to improve on both areas.
with regards to the acceleration times i'm as interested as you, will be nice to see how consistent the car is and also measure any difference in D, S & LC mode.
i'm sure there is a thread here that has people P3 or 0 to 100 times in it but i can only find track time thread, have you any idea where it might be?
I'll be at the DIY mate so we can catch up there, or you could move to Manly

Morning sir,
Had a pretty bad accident before christmas and with ADV's exceptional customer service, I am still waiting for the part to repair my damaged wheel (This is week 9)
As we were about to leave Sydney and move northwards I had no choice but to get the car back on the road, so I got my hands on some wheels as quick as I could or it would still be on a hoist in Sydney.
Not sure what I will do once the ADV is repaired, I love the wheels but have come to loath the company.

Hello mate,
Am waiting on dates from RS now, I have requested 11 "items" so it may take a while to talk nonsense and such before I drop off the car, but i'd like to have it in their hands mid Feb
I did ask if we can skip a stage or two and just go bonkers so stay tuned on that, as for trial and error, I’m pretty sure Jig has opted to keep rocking stage 1, he did have headers, cats and OEM pulleys changed but as far as I know has not gone stage 2 on the SC, he may have had a custom tune, but he'll need to confirm that. The trial and error was related to the number of grooves on the main crank pulley, apparently Aus R32's have 5 and the part supplied had 4, so all pulleys were changed for billet units except main crank, again the boss man would need to confirm that himself.
I'll be back to black once ADV sorts themselves out and gets my parts here, but for now I’m loving the fake VMR's, they look at bit posh in pics bit are pretty agro up close .
How you liking your beast ?
any plans for more insanity?

From what Thomas says, Jiggys gone injectors, pulley, headers and cats! Going bonkers sounds good, i like it! 11 "items" oh man that's a tease!
Yeah that sounds about right from our discussions! Good to hear- murdeeeer it out again.
Yeah mate sure do! Should unfold in the next few months! Still tinkering with suspension setup for now though. Got a couple little bits and pieces to install too. Will post a thread soon enough.
I am with you as well. This is my last set of Wheels from them. Moving on to other sets for sure.
If you want to feel what stage2 is like, let me know. My car is now on stage 2 with the 92mm pulley compared to the 88mm pulley with the bigger injectors and the custom tune for stage2. While I was at it, Ramspeed also did the dsg tune on my car and it's a different car altogether. The best thing about stage 2 is the SC whine is 10x louder and with my bonnet vents you can hear it from a mile away. It also made my capristo sound like an AMG burble. It's not as raspy as before. Loving it.
Once your done with stage 2, some tunnel drives are in order. All the best chief.

Hey Tom,
I cant say yet, but i have my concerns,
when still attached it is not possible to fully clean and remove all dust and crap so prep work is not 100%
the paint itself is epoxy rated to 900F but again the only thing that will prove that claim is time,
I wanted to give it a go anyway and the bang for buck and ease is well worth it, as it only cost me $60.00 for a wire brush some break cleaner and the paint.
i am planning on fitting new brakes shortly so if it all turns out crap after my first quick run all is not lost, i'll just rip them off and sell em to Jas

Their workshop is tiny. I had organised a walk through with them about 2 years ago and they were quite happy to do so but was so far out of the way. M5 Ring Taxi took place fortunately enough though.. 2 bookings on one day why would i say no lol.
Saw 2 RUF 911's last time in October though, cream pants material. Oh and a mansory panamera, that was nice in an expensive bad taste way lol

Just wanted to add this in as I was chatting about it today to a few folks
Recently I lost fuel pressure while driving, after about 30 secs I smelled fuel and by that time had come to rest in a side street, as ignition was still in the 'on' position my 2nd fuel pump was still dumping fuel all over the road, I shut the car off and jumped underneath to find the low pressure side of the pump had lost its hose, the culprit was a single use clamp.
I shoved on a $1.00 clamp from Bunnings but it will rust as only the band is stainless and not the screw, you can get full stainless clamps from marine shops if you have rusty clamps.
The replacement I have ordered is also full stainless but has no thread in the band nor is there any pinch point or potential for it to split your hose (I’m pedantic)
Her is a Pic of the offending clamp (left) and the temp replacement (right)
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/6840/sam1260t.jpg
And link to the type of insane perfectionist clamp should anyone need to change any clamps in future

The clamps mentioned are really good. But be careful you don't over tighten them as they can cause damage to hoses if they dont have rolled edges.. my friend could speak from experience LOL

Ah yeah baby. Everything looking smik adz. Yellow caliper with the black will look great. Any reason for drilled at the front and slottered for the rear?
Carbon will work so well too. Nicely coming together mate.
Re the wheels, the last two choices have my vote.

Cheers matey,
Going to play with both and see what works out, when I saw Ray was selling his rear discs i decided to buy them and do everything at once, Didnt make sense to go BBK up front and do nothing up the back, so am keeping stock calliper but going slotted + braided that way i'll get everything done in 1 go,
might drive me nuts yet, what with the OCD n all,
we'll see,

WOW Adam, all nice goodies! Yeah, excited on your behalf...
As for the wheels, I like the ramspeed special (last pic - they really should name them to prevent bloody confusion), I like it a lot.

Thanks Mark,
As for the TWS option i think the price is restrictive, and they dont offer the flexability that Ramspeed do, MHT / Niche are very big in the US bit not so much out here so I dont have the confidence to go with an untrusted brand as they can't be vouched for, I love the design but again ... Ramspeed ....
The wheels are all named, This style is RS DC 09, i'm sure they will publish it all in good time,
Stepping it up Adam. Stepping it up.

Ramspeed can turn anything into Carbon, inserts, plastic, mouldings etc, if you can hand it to them they will return it + Carbon, check this out

Adam,
This thread is becoming disgracefully good. :)
Thomas tried to tempt me with carbon goodies. I was looking at the steering wheel and DSG stick, but looks like you are going to beat me to it :p
And by the way, damn nice choice on the brakes, and the wheels. Im getting wheel envy, and wondering if I picked the right ones now :)
So what happened to the awesomeness of brakes? Movit? :)

re: moveit = $17'000
So many R32 purchases and build threads kicking off i had to join in,
also you may still beat me to it on the carbon if you decide to do it, before I get any carbon fitted I need to
Paint and fit calipers front and rear
paint Brembo discs (they are grey and I want BLACK!)
Change my belts and pulleys
sort my guards out as they need to be rolled before I fit the new wheels as am going 35 ET
get my paint corrected and tidy up all the swirls and holograms
get the car to Heasmans for some camber and LCA's etc
Then I will have time to get it back to Ramspeed for the carbon treatment, so looks like I might be following in your footsteps, make with the carbon, GO, GO
MOVE IT !!!!

Adam,
This thread is becoming addicting :p (I couldn't agree more with Paul)
It look's like you just can't stop! this could be the most extensively modified R32 MKV in Australia :)
By the way mate, nice choice on the brake kit. Those wheels are 'special'. Im getting car envy, and wondering if I should by an R32. So what exactly did you end up going with for the brakes?
You my man, need to come to more meets to blow the socks off every one :D

Brakes are Porsche 996TT / GT3 6 piston up front with Brembo 350mm drilled discs off an AMG/Merc with braided lines and custom brackets supplied by LOBA with lots of help from Pierre (Fuzion) Rear is stock calliper painted in Porsche yellow with braided lines EBC redstuff pads and Neuspeed slotted 310mm discs supplied by Crazyray
I wish i could fully unleash all my ideas on this car but i have a lot going on and i dont have the time or funds to fully devote to it so it comes in waves,
Also got a custom Alcantarra wheel lined up and some fancy engine tuning but that will be the last thing on my busy little list, right after teh brakes, body, guards, carbon etc ...
Plenty of meets coming up in the next few weeks and months, i'm going to do my best to attent do might catch you there
ET 35? you extreme mofo.....jealous ! :)
And by the way, damn nice choice on the brakes, and the wheels. Im getting wheel envy, and wondering if I picked the right ones now :)

Wheel envy? What about BRAKE ENVY!!????
Adam, this car just keeps on getting better - attention to detail and quality yet wisely chosen components make this thread a joy to read.

Here's a thought Adam...
Given you turfed the back seat, and are setting bench marks, why dont you strip that dash down, rework the firewall, and get that engine sitting behind the front axle :)
Epic centre of gravity !
Just a thought :p
