View Full Version : Exhuast for the R36
Hey Guys,
need some advice on an exhaust for the r36. I recently had a tune done (dec 09) by City performance and it did wonders for the car. Then I added the Gruppe M carbon intake (this mod is one way or the other... not overly impressed)
Now i had an exhaust fitted by a local supplier (dont want to bash anyone) that claimed good gains and a good product however im fussy and it was not up to my standard in terms of build quality and sound...
As far as i can see my only option is an Arqray however id love any suggestion on an alternative if anyone has a suggestion...

no turbo kit....yet.
maybe hpa front brakes they look nice.
at this stage my only option is Arqray, anyone got one they can comment on
Send a email to capristo, I'm sure they could do an exhaust system for you..

I used to have an Arqray on my R32 - great exhaust, awesome craftmanship, sound I loved - deep/low note.
Have you tried SS, Milltek ?

both companies have denied making an exhaust for my car....
ive got two options,
Supersprint full extractors back or the arqray cat back...... im thinking arqray because from the clips ive heard the arqray sounds alot deeper and seems to be better quality....
thoughts?

Don't know if i'd bother with headers cost too much to install if they are anything like the golf where you have to pull of the front of the car.
Also some well known brand ones lose power. Cat backs are easy, arqray would be cool.
what are your concerns with the current exhaust?
Too loud? Too quiet? Too boomy? Welds arent pretty? Dont like the tips? Isnt it possible to address the concerns without going to the expense of a complete new system?
Not all exhausts are created equally. What are your requirements though?

Hi R207:
I spoke to Capristo and confirmed also by Ramspeed that they do not have any plans in developing an exhaust for the R36. There are only 2 aftermarket companies that supplies exhaust for the R36. Bastuck and Superprint. Bastuck is from Germany. They had an R32 cat back exhaust but it had drone tendencies confirmed by Bastuck themselves. I am not sure what it will be for the R36. Supersprint is from Italy. They also have a cat back system but just check whether its for LHD or RHD. Supersprint have good gains when I had it on my R32. The sound is pretty good too. They have racing and sport center exhausts. I am not sure what they mean by racing but I do hope its not equivalent to a non-res because the non-res I had for the R32 was drony at higher gears. Try and have a go at the Supersprint but do ask questions about the sound. You might be the 1st person to do this on an R36 so that's bragging rights right there.
I agree with you, the R36 exhaust sound is very conservative and it needs to be better than this. It is an R afterall.
I am considering the HGP turbo kit for the R36 from Germany which will include a full TBE. Price is not bad also for what you get. That could be an option for you if you decide to boost your R36.

AP's exhausts both look like pieces of art!
Just depends if they've done many V6's but shoudn't be too different from an R32 one you'd think.
AP, the quality of those TIG welds does things to me in my pants.
god i love looking at qualtity welding
Man these guys can build anything...

Anthony, your exhausts look great! Workmanship is top class!
Very similar quality to the one i had made for mine!
Thanks for all the info guys it's great to get feedback.
I had an evolve exhaust on my car and as ap knows it was not the best quality to say the least. But Im not here to bash evolve. City performance did a tune for me and I have an arqray coming from japan on the 20th of may, titanium tips and all. I'll keep you all posted,,, Ross

i saw what you typed before you edited it Johno hahaha but i agree, i don't think Arqray meant for their exhaust note to be over the top but almost stock like but with more bass without raspyness. That's just my experience from my catback and hearing bigwills one in person

Nice one Ross time to put his bad boy to the test.
It's on the car... It's got an awesome note very r32 ish.. Just wait for it to bed in at the moment. Only prob I have is I think it's a bit loud. That's my opinion. My wife drove it and she thinks it's awesome .... Hmm I must be getting old...
If you want to hear it I'll be out and about tonight so might be able to meet somewhere on the northside...

Oh yes it's on the car picked it up this morning... Fk it's loud and it screams.. Exhaust pop is more evident however driving normally is just a bit loud... Who knows I'll probably get sick if it after a week and an r36 owner can grab a bargain

Oh, that's no good mate, can't they just use a better muffler or add some resonators?
That's the problem with custom jobbies, you're not sure what you're getting and can't listen to it first.

My bad Terence, I was thinking of the GTI in the other thread, but goes to show even the brand name stuff can turn out a bit loud. It's a fairly personal thing too, how much noise is good.
Exhaust development for the R36 seems fairly limited so guess it takes time as the car is still pretty new.
ive given up, im happy with the stock exhaust and the gruppe m.....

Don't have have a really nice Audio setup Ross? A droney/loud exhaust could work against it a bit anyway & agree stock sounds good too.
