Rev 555

Has anyone updated their RNS510 to the new firmware as yet? It was released a couple of weeks ago and I still trying to work out what the new features are to the last firmware 2660.
I don't even know how to upgrade. Haha.
How do you upgrade the firmware?

You two are great on the mechanical side but not so good on electronics huh? :)
You upload via a disc, insert and follow the prompts. Takes about 60 minutes, I wasn't going to bother if there was only minor updates. I have a copy of the disc which I got from a friend, who got it from his friend...and so on.
For those who are game you can follow Mav's instructions on his site

It thinks the bug near terrigal and ourimba.
It loads up the GPS quicker.
But.... the workaround for video in motion no longer works. (e.g. push the button next to eject and then tone)
There arent many differences between 2680 and 2720 in terms of features.
Pretty sure its just bug fixes and faster operation.
Although I'm running 2680 firmware and its running really well. Its got the nicer colour theme and the white clock display when you turn the rns510 off.
I'm not upgrading, I'm happy to leave it as it is. With mine only being a B revision unit I don't want to risk it, I thought the 27XX firmware was primarily designed for C revision units? I could be wrong?

Would have to ask Mav how it works, but i didn't see any point in upgrading from 2660 and it still had the nice colour themes. Sometimes not worth stuffing around with it if it's not broken if it's only minor/unnoticeable updates. Although don't know that it would hurt.

yours should already have red/blue/green etc..
the RCD510 come stock with they more 'grey' theme but phone is still green etc. May be a vagcom thing if you want to change it.

Thought the color schemes can be changed via vagcom regardless of 2680 or 27xx firmware.
I've got a version C unit. But the video in motion just killed it for me.

does the workaround for VIM really work by touching a few buttons. love to have VIM coz pointless for passengers to watch with no picture but able to hear movie for most of the trip.

It should work with all B and C version units with firmware 26xx and up.
It works for me.
When you aren't moving and the video is playing on the screen. You hit the button next to the eject button wait for the NAV voice to start and during the NAV voice you hit the "tone" button you should hear a chime that sounds like the seatbelt one.
There is a video on youtube.
Only thing is each time you change volume or enter the menu while playing the dvd you'll need to do hit the button combo again.

Ooooh all these new thingamabobsits with the RNS510 that you can do. Can't wait!

Bit of a delayed post but better late than never haha.
Colour schemes can be changed via vagcom regardless of the firmware I was just referring to the red highlights on the buttons on the Highline (stock) colour scheme. Previous firmware versions with the Highline the buttons didn't have the red strips on them.
