Hey Guys,

Met up with Daneel today to pick up my L.E.D license plate lights.

I promised to take some shots and post up after i detailed it today :).

Here are the Specs:

- MY08 MKV R32- I took the Omanyts off and fitted the Zolders to the car as i like the look of them :).
- Sunroof
- Parking Sensors
- MDI and Ipod Connectivity
- RNS510
- DSG
- Heated seats
- 5 door

The amount of difficulties i had in finding the best example of a MKV R32 DSG in DBP was amazing but i think i was very lucky to find an Unmolested example >D

My list:
- Stubby Antenna
- L.E.D License plate lights (Not fitted)
- Boot Pop (Not fitted)
- Tint 15% soon to be done by Dave at Reflect effect and Opti Coat.
- Gloss Black OEM R32 Grille- Yet to be fitted :)

Mods: Will see as i am in two minds of modifying the car :(

Lots and lots of pics to come!!

Can you please not have your own discussion in my thread.

Rob, since your custom user title is the Nurburgring .:R, have you considered a nice nurburgring sticker for the .:R?

and agreed with everyone, put the stubby on. If you're worried about people nicking it, a bit of medium strength Loctite should discourage the opportunistic.

Keep it dead stock Rob. Even the ariel, leave it alone. The stubby ones lose radio reception. All mods are a compromise, even stickers. Don't go there. Leave the car clean, like it came from the factory/dealership. Just drive it.

Justin has a point, a clean original car is always nice. For most of us though, giving our cars a bit of personality never hurt.

If you go down the JF "Zen" approach, may I suggest personalizing your keychains in the following fashion:

Nurburgring keyring

or even better, a VR6 head gasket one. - VR6 pride?

So the Barlo R division can't work it out?

Rob32R
22-10-2011, 11:01 PM
Hey Mik,

They worked it out finally about a 1month ago it was a battery problem, the battery needed replacing. So they replaced the battery with a new one and cleaned the MAF and checked the sensors as well that Pedro mentioned. It has never come back and all is going well with the car, Not cheap either those VW Varta batteries $700.00 :(.

How is the Beautiful MK1 Kaninchen Weib going?

YouSnooze
22-10-2011, 11:20 PM
You paid $700!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!! You can buy a Uber-lightweight Li-Po [a-la Porsche GT3RS] battery for that price. I've been telling people for a long, long time that weird electrical problems are commonly caused by faulty batteries & few people believe me. Glad to hear it was sorted, but sad to hear you were completely reamed on the battery price. Maybe they charged you $400 for labour to install it..........

Rob32R
22-10-2011, 11:25 PM
Thanks Doug. You maybe right about the labour cost. I'll have to check cause it was one month ago and i have still got the receipt. But i remember it not being cheap.

Man, how old is this car? Arguably if it's less than 3 years it's covered by warranty. I know I had one replaced by dealer for free.

As others said, $700 is taking the piss.

Rob32R
23-10-2011, 01:13 PM
The Car is a 2008 Mik. You are right, I must be thinking of something else, it was covered under warranty cause i have extended warranty on the car for 3 years and i just checked all the receipts. Sorry for the wrong info. I must be thinking of something else . My mistake boys. My dads 5 Series BMW needed a new battery causes he hardly uses it. Its a 2006 E60 530i with 31,600kms.

Its quite funny, Rob's last comment was a page and a half back... Yet people are still taking the piss....

Even funnier, he has been told by everyone to ignore banter from others and looks like he is doing very well not to reply to all the BS replies on here, so how about everyone now give him a break???

So he made a mistake with the $700 battery post earlier, its like people are trying their hardest to get another reaction, start some more shit and then have him banned again!!!!

Rob, maybe you should be the one using the ignore button on most of people's posts.....

I went with 20% all round. Not overly dark, but just a touch darker than legal. Not really noticeable though with the sunroof open, lets more light in and cabin appears brighter too.

And who is that post directed at Jig?? If you think that is a reasonable thing to do and that it wont have a negative effect then no one is stopping you mate. Just make sure that it is a reasonable thing to do and not just based on ppl who are over sensitive and wasting your time!

It doesn't take reading between the lines to spot the juvenile circle jerk that a few guys seem to engage with one another around Rob. Guys who could just use the ignore list but would rather piss on another's parade to make themselves feel better. It's a bit sad really.

ADV/HRE?
I remember looking into these then ruling it out quite fast when I saw the price! :)
Good for you if you can jump in there and get a custom set. They have some great looking wheels.
I'd throw in rotiforms and stuff from oempl.us if you do decide to come back off that ADV/HRE ledge.

Adzy - who are ADV ripping off?
No I meant that the price is crazy for a company with the experience that they have in making wheels, just my opinion, i havent looked into their tecniques etc. but to me they look like a company with clever marketing aiming for image concious buyers without the prestige/quality/experience of manafacturers that have been around for over a decade.. again just an opinion.

Ahh gotcha. I recall watching some videos / reading a blog about the history or "truth" behind ADV and it's origins / length of experience. It was pretty convincing but as you say - could have just been some clever marketing.

Will post up shortly Tom , I'm currently looking at Capristo exhaust systems. I have managed to track one down from the US at a very good price even though Antonio Capristo is not making them anymore :).

This exhaust below is incredible, but why spend $5048 for a Kreissieg when for $3490 I can get a Capristo, but boy oh boy this Kreissieg gives me goose bumps :).

$3500 for the exhaust
$350 shipping
$200 duty
$440 GST
$80 customs broker fees.

$4500+

You could do so much more for the money.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am not going to track the car. I will be ordering the H&R Sways only to fix up the problem with all R32 MKV's which is heavy front end, I still need to do abit more research on Suspension and whats available to stiffen it up. KW V2's will be ordered very soon :).

a better valued option. cheap and painless when u kerb or buckle
it ;)

There very nice Nataneal, thanks for the suggestion they remind me of VMR wheels.

I'll look into them, do you know where I can purchase those?

At this minute it's leaning towards the BBS CH-R in Silver :). I don't kerb or buckle wheels.

Which finish should I go for Adam?

Titanium or Silver?
Only you know the answer to that mate, the titanium would make it stand out a bit more due to the non factory wheel color.. which ever way you go you cant go wrong with such a classy looking wheel; the CH and CHR's are a timeless design.

Does Tirerack ship to Australia?

Tinto

Yes they do. Be prepared to pick up the phone and complete the order with CC in hand though.
OR use a service like bongo.us

Oh... and non of us intentionally kerb or buckle wheels. Shit just happens.
My 3yo nudged over one of my BBS LM that was leaning up against the wall in the garage today.
The whole barrel lip was kissed by the concrete floor. Not a cheap set of wheels, but I would have wept if it was a bespoke set of ADV/HRE that cost more than 10% of the value of my car..

20 pages of a build thread and not a single mod planned has been made. Stop talking & thinking about maybe doing something and just DO IT!! Make your own decisions that suit your style and have courage in your convictions. All this modding by committee is just weak.

Now that's out my system. Save yourself the hassle of importing BBS wheels and go to an Australian distributor;

If you can get them through tirerack there isnt much risk, I have never heard a bad word about them and when I have used them in the past the communication and customer service shit on that offered by aussie retailers. Couldnt be bothered looking up current currency situation etc but when I purchased wheels through them I saved 55% compared to if I bought them locally... now that is significant.

When I ordered wheels through them it was the final piece of credit card processing (and subsequent authorisation) that they needed to do over the phone as you couldn't choose Australia as a destination on their site. That may have changed now though.

The BBS LMs live on my track car and are about to be wrapped in Nitto NT01 :)
At Stage 2+, I'm done modifying the Golf and will probably be uninstalling a few things.

tirerack will no longer process international CC payments - they will send you a link to their T&C's. They will only accept direct bank deposit.

Tirerack will not ship BBS/OZ due to their agreement with the suppliers protecting the local economy. They will post to a family member within USA and i guess its up to them what they do with them.....

Tirerack are great for tires, used them a number of times and will never buy tires domestically again.

Check out vivid Racing. They still ship BBS i think.

You can split shipments, but make sure you do it by using a different name and delivery address on the shipments. Customs can pick that stuff up. Also, by the time you split shipments the extra freight you pay somethings cancels out the saving...

A freight forwarding company is worth looking at, but it depends on how good their shipping rates are. It varies alot. Tirerack gets amazing rates compared to others...

Hi Wezag,

I'm just not 100 percent sure on whether I want to modify this car as I have read many threads and overseas forums that it is very hard to get alot of power out of an R32 unless you Turbocharge it or Supercharge it. To me engine modifications on an R32 don't impove the KW or HP at all as it is a very heavy engine compared to the lighter MKV GTI 2.0T.

I may just look at wheels, exhaust and a set of KW's and some suspension mods and also some cosmetic stuff.

I was so close to purchasing a Gruppe M or Modshack intake but I don't believe there is much power gains with those intakes, but they do look nice in the engine bay.

Also I feel that when you go to sell an R32 it saids very hard to sell a modified car as people always have their doubts.

DOM337
20-01-2012, 04:07 PM
Rob,

I'm in the same boat as you mate, probably only head down the track of more cosmetic changes. It's a slippery slope when you start chasing power in a NA car...

At the end of the day, as long as you're happy with the car that's all that matters.

Wezag
20-01-2012, 04:14 PM
Yeh make it look sexy, the car has good power, you dont need to go balls out like Jig, add things little by little. I wouldnt worry too much about selling and mods etc, it sounds like its your pride and it will be a keeper for quite a while and if you do sell, since you like to keep it immaculate I am sure you will keep the oem parts nice and safely stored away.

Dear .:Robert

Weight of the engine has little to do with the performance characteristics in terms of output (kW/nM). Weight of the engine effects the handling characteristics of a car. I'm sure you already know this by now though. These "downfalls" that the R32 has can be rectified with various strut/spring combos as well as upgrading bushings and sway bars.

In terms of improving output of these engines, yes extracting more performance from an N/A motor is more costly than a turbocharged motor. Reading the internet anywhere will tell you this, not just this and overseas forums. However the mods you have listed (cold air intakes) will improve throttle response and driveability of the car. Coupled with a tune, you may have a smoother (possibly slightly larger) torque curve and a nicer intake and exhaust sound.

Any car is hard to sell modified. Why don't you modify what you please, then remove the mods prior to selling the car? Also, if you are so worried about re-sale, why did you buy the car in the first place. I would be a $500 shitter if i was that anal about re-sale and just drive it until it dies.

You mention you want to do suspension and an exhaust though, yet this contradicts half of the things you say? I'm not having a dig at you but you really already have these mods planned which will improve driveability and looks of the car. I'm sure this is all second hand information to you and you knew it already. Not sure why i even bothered posting.

Good day.

Be a better driver than a good driver Rob. Learn how the car responds and become more experienced in driving a car on our roads. Worry about power and/or handling when you believe and feel the car is in need of either/or. Do not be tempted by what other people do to their cars in this forum. You have plenty of time to tempt yourself with modifications. You need to understand what each of the mods do and how it feels when you do decide to modify your car otherwise you are simply modifying the car for the sake of modifying the car.

Modding an .:R32 just takes away the originality of the iconic nature of the model.

Modding an .:R32 just takes away the originality of the iconic nature of the model.

Have to disagree vehemently (but not in all cases), sometimes mods can improve iconic nature of a model as a whole (yes, whole - with a W and an L). OTOH, some models are best left as is ;)
