Totally BS, I was unknowingly doing 70 in a 50 zone coasting down hill (after exiting the highway at 70kmh) and there was absolutely no one else around, no cars or people but the highway patrol nabbed me from half a km away hidden behind a roundabout. I'm more pissed that I actually wasn't driving hard, I'd accept it otherwise. Only good thing is the cop was polite and gave me all the info on appealing it, but you can't help but shake that feeling that it's all about the revenue raising. Pick a safe quiet steep street where there is no danger and get people for coasting down. It's the principle that annoys me and the fact that he even said I wasn't driving erratically.

That sucks mate! Hopefully you can appeal it and get something out of it. I wouldnt pay it prior to going to court as well as if you do you will still cop the points. If you do not pay it you have a likelihood of loosing the points still + court fees (unsure what they are now) however if he lets you off with anything you possibly may just have to cop the fine however no points loss. If the points are very important to you and fine itself (and your record isnt bad) i would consider a solicitor if for example it affects your work or so forth / job - or you can claim that it does.

I got nabbed on the way down Canberra years ago for the same thing, it was road works from 110 to 70 and i saw the sign and turned off cruise control and coasted down and he got me for 88 in a 70 zone and he was also quite polite but he said as he got me on radar (which he showed me) that unfortunate had to be fine etc (BS) and he put it down for under 15 instead of over 15..

I've sent the appeal off so will see how it goes.

I think it very unlikely that I'll get a warning, best case scenario pay the fine + no points. Worst case, get the points and pay the fine.
I'm annoyed but such is life.

p.s Scotty...wouldn't have mattered if I had be driving a Getz, Rex or GTI ;)
...spoke with a mate who got done on the same stretch of road under the exact same circumstances.
I've just learnt to be more careful going between speed zones.

Hey Cam. I feel your pain. Anyone capable of reasoning would agree that those sort of speed traps have nothing to do with safety. You know it, I know it, they know it. It's sad that it's like that, that there's not one speed camera of enforcement point in Sydney CBD yet I watch motorbikes and wankers drive 80-100 between lights all the time. Road stats on the RTA will show you that freeways are the safest roads in the country yet why is this where I see HWP parked up ready to nab someone doing 15 over every few days? Yadda yadda yadda...
Couple of days back HWP were parked up at Waterfall in a very very obvious location. I said to my missus straight up I bet they have someone at the bottom of the hilly bit in a couple of kays and lo and behold they had a sniper team in action. Road safety again?

One thing to bear in mind, I got a section 10 dismissal on my double demerits years ago when I was a p-plater by writing a thrilling and inventive piece of prose to the court. However, and this is the killer, even though I paid no fine (which I was actually willing to do and said so) the RTA still applied my points (6). However, I only found out about 2.5 years later so I'd be driving about thinking I still had 12 in the bank when really I had only 6. Good luck anyway but make sure you find out for sure if you really don't get the points.

Spotted, hwy patrol mini meet in Nasho this afternoon. Main activity was hide and seek, find the best hiding spot and seek the naughty ppl breaking the law. Turnout was good, at least 4 hwy cars within a few Kms.

Judging by the interest in ppl stopping by to inspect the hwy patrol cars and to cop a ticket, it was a successful meet. There was equal participation in the days activity by both motorcycles and car. Thanks to all the Sunday drivers that were initially irritating me, they turned out to be ones that stopped me from driving a little more spiritally. Needless to say, drove back on the highway.

Haha I went through The Nasho today also, about 12-1:00, thankfully I got stuck behind a car when the Hwy Patrol chasing after a motorbike went past.
Took it easy after that and came back home via the freeway.
