It is neither.. Its just a standard Golf. I saw it in Chatswood a couple of weeks ago and had trouble identifying the model. The standard brake calipers gave it away ;)

So many modded golfs here in Salzburg! Spotted mk3s all way thru to mk6 ... Only seen one R but plenty gtis. Most seem to have painted oem rims like rs4. Not many seem to have performance mods, mainly cosmetic. Did see one A3 covered in oettinger stickers but stock zorst.

Also seems every second person has matt paint/vinyl wrap when i was in France!

Living in Concord I am always driving down Lyons Rd and everytime I see at least one Mk6 GTI or R. On a good day I can see 3 or 4. Even seen two new 35 ED's and a rare RED GOLF R. Canada Bay City Council must have the highest GTI/R owner's per capita in Sydney. LoL

That's because VW is so cheap in Australia (competing with Toyota), I love my golf, I didn't think very hard to buy the Golf, because it is value of money... BUT I'd think twice before buying a Golf outside of Australia, Golf R is nice... but in the UK it is the same price as the S3 and 135i... unfortunately the R would be bottom of my list there.

That's because VW is so cheap in Australia (competing with Toyota), I love my golf, I didn't think very hard to buy the Golf, because it is value of money... BUT I'd think twice before buying a Golf outside of Australia, Golf R is nice... but in the UK it is the same price as the S3 and 135i... unfortunately the R would be bottom of my list there.

same with germany/switzerland/austria and most of europe.. dont get me wrong! i still love them.. but i am glad i made the choice to my s3 at the end of the day (for me anyhow).

Johno, I don't want to get into a slanging match but you were a lot further than "62cm" on a hairpin that has seen on my count 6 total write offs in the last 12 months on that bend alone. Trucks often pull over and cars pass around on the downhill and coming that far over is asking for trouble. My suggestion is that on a hairpin, the bird takes one for the team ;)

EDIT:take it as an apology. I'm not in anyway suggesting I drive by every single road rule either so I'm happily setting myself up with a poke of the stick. If i felt I had a real 'problem' with it I ought to have PM-ed you instead. Cheers.
