Hey everyone,

My name is Ricki. I currently own a Honda Integra Type R (DC2), and have been a part of the Japanese car scene for a little over 4 years now. Anyways, it seems that some things have changed in my life, and this has left me no choice but to sell up my current car (which I love and adore, and will miss greatly :(, and get into something a little nicer, and more pratical, sophisicated, and just grown up.
I have always loved Golfs, and grew up around them in England when I was kid. Although, they were a little different back then. haha.
I promised myself, I would never own another FWD car again, but haha looks like I can't stay from them. I do not own a Golf yet, but as soon as the Integra gets parted out, and sold, I will be looking to get my bum in a Golf GTI MKV. I will have alot of questions for you guys and girls, so please excuse my lack of knowledge on Turbo's and European cars, as i've always been a Honda boy through and through, and a bit of a NA is best person.

Anyways, I've been looking at 2.0L turbo's. I'm going to stop tracking, as i'm just completely over it. So obviously the Golf GTI stood out as a good choice, I am also considering a EVO 8 MR, WRX STi ('05), Mazda 3 MPS - but i'll mod the crap out of them right (?) but in all honesty, I think a golf is the go, that's why I joined this forum, and not evo forums haha.

Anyways, enough ranting from me... hope to see you guys around the forum, and hope you can put up with my nooby question. It's weird joining a new community. :icon_neutral:

Welcome Ricki. I'm one of the VTEC convert myself. Even Justin (a legend in the JDM scene and True Honda fanatic) got a Golf GTI now.
What makes the Golf great is not so much the car, but the lifestyle and enthusiast around it. Don't get me wrong, it is a great car, but not without it's fault.

I owned an Evo 8 MR. Got over it after a month, but that month of stalking Porsche's and the like was fun. Got a MkV 32, it's great. Euro's are a fair step up from your avg Japanese car. Good move and welcome!

SUGAAA!!! yeah time to grow up, and they are just great cars!! I just checked out the vendors on this forum. carbon parts!! YUM!! I know exactly what I want to do with this car now! Nothing over the top, just subtle things, and not going to go as crazy as I did with the DC2R. haha.

stephen8512, don't tell me that buddy, haha. I know i'll mod it, but i've got my mind on just making this car look good, with subtle carbon lips etc, and intake, exhaust and tune. I've never been a big power fan (I guess that's what you get coming from a Honda).

I do have a few questions though.
Do MKV GTI's come with:
* LSD's?
* 5 or 6 speed
What size and offset are the stock wheels, and would RS4 wheels fit on them - or look good on them?
What is the dud colour of GTI's. For DC2R's it's Red. Does the GTI red paint fade like the Integra Red.
What are the common problems I need to look out for when looking around for my GTI? I know the usual basics to check for, but are there specific problems or weaknesses with the GTI that I need to look out for?

Steve, the man with the plan!

Ricki, to answer your Q:
LSD - no
6 speed both in Manual and DSG
RS4 wheels will fit
dud colour, don't know
Weakness would be the diverter valve, DSG mechatronic

Thanks 10d. Surprised about lack of LSD. What's does a diverter valve do actually? I know Forge make a replacement for it. Excuse my turbo noobness.

What are good intakes for these? Don't care too much about sound. I obviosuly want to here a bit of spool, being my first ever Turbo car I have owned. GruppeM good for these?

Heres a bit of info on the diverter valves

regarding intake, no matter which one you get, when u put your foot down, it'll sound like a "whooooooosh" sound, like a loud sucking sound....then when u let go of the pedal, it sounds like a PSHHH from a BOV...

I have a FORGE TWINtake, previous to that, I had a neuspeed P-Flo. CHristina has a Gruppe M but thats mighty costly for an intake IMO, although it does look sexy

Thanks for the info on the diverter valve. That makes alot of sense now.
ahhh getting excited. Now to get off my ass, and start taking all the shit off my car, and selling it.
