Someone tell me what the advantage of "flat style" is?
nothing, grooved is better for function. I guess the flat for looks even though you can't see behind the paddle shifter really..lol.

The groove in the back is the main reasons i love mine so much.
No advantages to the flat style that i could think of.

eh? better for function? how?
theres no advantages or disadvantages for both. its user preference
a grooved surface will give you a better feel for the paddles at the tips of your fingers.

Bump for this thread. Here's mine which I picked up in the last GB. These are awesome guys get on this GB it's well worth it. Much better to drive with than the oem ones, they have a more expensive metal feel to them instead of the cheap plastic not to mention how cool they look!

Our Flat Paddles have been made available at the request of our customers that track and race their vehicles. Many of these hard core enthusiasts perfer the feel of the completely flat surface when they are wearing racing gloves. The gloves ensure a non-slick grip on the Shifter while the flat side of the Paddle gives them a more direct action from the Shifter.
There really is no advantage of one style Paddle over the other. It solely depends upon the drivers preference. Personally, I prefer the Grooved Paddle because it feels nicer on the finger-tips.
Yet, I do like the contrast of the Flat-Style Paddle Shifter, as it provides more of a 'race-car' feel.
BTW, we sell 25 sets of grooved paddles to every 1 set of flat paddles.

Do you plan on each person having a group buy reference # then contacting the supplier and arranging their own postage?

Hello Stephen,
Yes, but, all of our current VW Paddle Shifter stock has the S2T logo. If he would like a set without the logo, it would have to be a Special Order and he would need to contact us directly at sales@s2tpp.com.
You may also want to mention to him that once the Paddles are installed, the logo is not visible.

anyone else noticed the paint scratched? i think the springs that they put in the packet have put minor scratches on the paddles... not as clean finish as I had anticipated but they definitely feel hefty. Dreading this install...

Hello Gentleman,
We sincerely apologize if your S2T Paddles have been damaged in shipment.
Under normal conditions the Anodized Finish on the S2T Paddle Shifters is extremely durable and will not dull or fade over the life of the vehicle. However, if the Finish of the Paddles you have received is not satisfactory, please contact us directly and we will arrange a return of your current Paddles and we will ship you a new set.

My paddles are going on my MkV.. Well, already have gone on. They're pretty good, I had to file a tiny amount of material from a few areas to stop the right paddle from rubbing on the plastic housing of the mechanism, but very happy with the quality of the paddles themselves. Nice CNC job!
The install is pretty easy, like I've said before, I'm happy to help folks in sydney who need a hand, or just wait till the DIY day in Feb if you'd prefer (yeah, right).

Mmmm, well for starters they are just stickon, so they use double sided tape to just stick them over the originals where the S2T's are complete replacement. Thats bloody expensive for stickon.

Installed Geo's paddles tonight. WOW the Mk6 airbag is REALLY ON THERE.. If anyone is attempting this on their own, the amount of force you have to use to get the airbag off is about three time more than when you think you'll break it. Seriously. It was a two hand effort, with Geo holding the tab out of the way with a screwdriver.
I'll try and remember to make a video on the DIY day (in Feb next year) to show other people how to do it, but yeah, really, the trick is more force. Then just when you give up and say 'nah, it's not coming out', use even more force than that.
This is what im scared about... Dont want to break the cover!!!
This is what im scared about... Dont want to break the cover!!!
Don't worry, those things are tough! We spent one and a half hours trying to get that damn thing off. After that it was a ten minute install for the rest.

Any MK6 owners fitted them yet?
Daneel
18-12-2011, 04:43 PM
Fitted the S2TPP Paddles to Geo's Mk6 TDI (same process as the GTI and R) - harder to do than on the Mk5, but still very easy if you know what you're doing. The trick is more force. Yes, I know you think you'll break it, now use more force. More.
The most important thing is to bend the little tab down behind the steering wheel with a small flat head screwdriver. The tab is actually a little metal loop hooked onto a tab in the steering wheel housing. While you're holding it down, pull on the casing of the airbag/horn. Two people might help here - one to hold the tab down, and one to pull on the airbag. It will probably need two hands of force to remove - rather than apply a constantly increasing force, I found a short, hard, sharp jerk worked better. And I mean HARD, like you're trying to remove a sword from a stone. Don't wrench at it, just jerk it a few centimetres.
If anyone in Sydney would like to volunteer their Mk6 (and has paddled to install) for me to make a video, I could post it up on youtube for the benefit of all.
They are easy to fit, once you know the airbag takes a bit to get off it's not that bigger deal, the pin is a bit fiddly but just take your time and all is good.

Ys and reply is back already, we need 10 minimum so I'll waiting until there are 10 ppl,
They will have them in stock March 2012,
And price is 169.95 per unit
They can ship individually to all of you and it'll cost 39.95 per unit
I'm thinking of shipping the lot of paddle to one in syd, bris etc, and everybody near there go and collect it, it shd save some shipping cost,
Please let me know how many and which type of paddle u want
If u got dsg fd, tell them we are buying this and hopefully drag them in as well

The above video is correct for the Mk6 (thanks Sam) - just keep in mind that you will need an ungodly amount of force to remove the airbag, far more than is shown in the video (video is from a Mk5). Seriously, it'll come free, just pull harder.

It's quite easy really, it's more that you just need to commit to doing it, the airbag is the hardest bit, all downhill form there, amusing the paddles fit properly, not like mine did, DOH

Oh, and the reason there is a delay is because they had to get a new machinist as they had problems with the last once, hence the paddles i got last group buy didn't fit and i had to send them back.

$34 for shipping seems quite steep??
The last 2 GB's for these were less than $20 shipping individually, not that long ago either..
Edit: The last GB was in fact also $34 shipping. But there was 1 before that one, shipping was $12.95 per set.

Hello Technopato!
Thank you for your Post.
Actually, shipping is currently $39.95 USD. Our cost on shipping is $38.00 USD (which is visible on each shipping label).
You are correct, in previous Group-Buys the shipping was much cheaper.
We first started using USPS International Priority Mail which was very inexpensive and affordable at around $12.95 USD per package. However, we started to have a lot of troubles with packages getting lost or held-up in Customs for long periods of time. So, we made a switch to USPS International Express 3-5 day shipping with tracking numbers. This shipping method is much more expensive but, we no longer have any issues with lost packages or delays in Customs. Plus, it got the product to our Customers quicker.
Unfortunately, the prices for USPS International Express shipping (which is completely out of our control) have continued to climb from $29.95 USD to the current price of $39.95 which was made effective January 2012. We have researched but, all other International carriers are more expensive than USPS.
We are not happy about the shipping situation, and hope that it changes so we can reduce the price we charge to our Customers.
Kind regards,
Michael Bello

Hey Michael,
All good and understood, that explains the higher shipping price then.
Yes when I organized the 2nd GB on here, shipping was $12.95 USD and do agree there were issues with some buyers receiving their packages late.. Looks like using a better carrier is the fix and the compromise being higher shipping price.
Wasn't insinuating anything other than my observation of higher shipping price in comparison to previous GB's.
Regardless the product still speaks for itself and the fact that the AUD/USD cross rate is soooo good now.. people are getting a better price anyway!
I still have my 2 sets of paddles and love them to bits!
Cheers

Hello Nathan_b,
Thank you for your Post and Kind words of support for our Product.
It's no problem really.
The Maniacs make a very good and super easy to install VW paddle shifter set. They are, arguably, the best aftermarket VW paddle shifter that is installed using Adhesive Tape.
Luckily, we do get business from folks that have purchased their product that want a more secure installation and a more OEM Paddle Shifter appearance.

Thank you for your Order and Participation in the latest S2T Performance Products VWGolf.net.au Forums Group-Buy.
2012 has been very exciting for us. Due to the tremendous success of our Products, we have had to ramp up the production of our Paddle Shifters. Although this might cause a short delay in the shipments of your new S2T VW Paddle Shifters we can assure you that it will be worth the waiting.
We are currently more than 80% completed with the manufacturing process. We expect that machining will be finished by the end of next week. In the next stage, the Paddle Shifters will be Tumbled, De-burred, Bead-Blasted, and Anodized. These final stages of the finishing process are extremely important in order to maintain the high quality of the appearance and feel for each S2T Performance VW Paddle Shifter.
Originally, we were expecting to begin shipping all Group-Buy Orders by April 1st as posted on our Website. However, the tooling and programming process we have implemented in the large mass production at our New Manufacturing Facility, will take a little longer for this first batch of VW Paddle Shifters. After the tooling is properly implemented, all Orders shall be filled as expediently as possible and we expect the shipping date to be approximately April 23rd or sooner.
We sincerely apologize for this delay and any inconvenience it may cause. We fully understand that this news may be disappointing for some of our participants. We are moving forward however, and we are gearing up as quickly as possible to meet the current demand, and the future demand for our popular VW Paddle Shifters.
If anyone decides not to continue with their purchase and would like a complete refund, then please contact us directly and we will process your request. For those that would still like to receive your S2T VW Paddle Shifters and remain prioritized on the Group-Buy Order list, we greatly appreciate your support and understanding as S2T Performance Products continues to grow and expand.
We are committed and looking forward to fulfilling our obligation to all participants by delivering to you the Absolute Best Paddle Shifter available for your VW and a Product that performs above and beyond all expectations.
We are most confident that the driving enjoyment of your vehicle will be greatly improved once your new set of S2T Performance Paddle Shifters are installed!

Sam_online,
Thank you for your Post and sharing our most recent update on your Orders.
We eager to finish and ship your new VW Paddle Shifters as quickly as possible!
And, as always, we look forward to your reviews and feedback.
In the coming weeks, we will be posting both on our Website and our Facebook page a two-part Video of your S2T Performance VW Paddle Shifters being created from a single block of 6061 T6 aluminum. Finally, you will be able to see and hear the awesome stages of the machining process in action and experience what is involved in manufacturing a single pair of Paddle Shifters.
In addition, I'll be adding a couple photographs comparing our old machining technique with our new CNC machines and new machining process.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for this delay and Thank you for your Orders and appreciate your support!
Thanks again,
Michael Bello

yeah i wasnt so impressed with my S2TP paddles, too hard to fit, was scratched on arrival. The maniacs paddles are just easy, cheap, probably not as sturdy but they arent exactly going anywhere either, and maintains the stock lit plus and minus symbols. They also come in a wider range of finishes

Thank you for your Post!
All in the past...
With our new packaging, the Paddle Shifters will not become damaged or scratched in shipment.
We admit that the installation of our VW Paddle Shifters are a little more difficult to install than our competitors paddle shifters that use Adhesive Tapes but, the S2T Paddle Shifters are definitely worth the extra time and effort.
As mentioned before, we do sell our VW Paddle Shifter to customers that have purchased alternative products and find that they want a more secure installation and a more OEM Paddle Shifter appearance.
Regards,
Michael Bello

At this point, your Paddles are currently being Blasted which will be followed by the Anodizing process.
We will then follow these steps by test-fitting and packaging your Orders.
Thanks again for your patience.

All done folks,
It is all very simple, quick and anyone could do it, however 2 things I would suggest
1- Use both springs, as there is a pair supplied by S2T and a pair removed, once fitted I noticed the paddles didn’t have the same feel or motion on each side so I doubled up the springs, they now have a solid firm feel
2 - Pushing the hinge out takes a surprising amount of force, to save the hassle of fiddling with jewelers screwdrivers etc., I used an Allen key and hammer, 2 taps and it came right out

Awesome end result. Now to install mine :) what do you mean by use both springs? Could you please explain. Doesn't the paddle only except one spring each side?

When you crack open the OEM paddle there will be a spring inside, and there will also be a spring supplied with the S2T paddle, there is only room for a single spring once you close it all up but you can insert spring 1 inside spring 2, they take up the same amount of space so it still fits together but you get double the force ..
there is no way i can explain this any clearer without using the word spring 17 more times !

When I start this group buy, I ask for a better spring set and they agree to suppl us one, so I think the spring they supply is good enuf to work alone...will report back when I do my install, or anyone?

Gentlemen,
With the most recent machining modifications to our VW Paddle Shifters, we recommend the use of the OEM paddle shifter springs with the installation of our Paddle Shifters.
The majority of the S2T Paddle Shifter sets shipped without additional springs unless notified in advance by the customer.
As always, please let us know if anyone has any questions regarding their S2T Paddle Shifters or their installation.
Thanks again,
Michael Bello

Gents,
as there will always be room for interpretation and may be differences between the feel and final product as they are essentially being assembled by us some people may be instantly pleased with the results and others may find slight differences and need to tweek,
Having read through this thread a few others on this site about the product I have noticed there is naturally some variation in how it feels and operates when finished, I tried the OEM springs and didn’t like them, I then switched to the supplied ones and found that 1 paddle worked perfectly and the other was slightly sticky hence going for the double spring option, as everyone else starts putting theirs together they will find different results,
that aside I could not be happier with the product, and the final feel once assembled,
Great work folks

Gentlemen,
I should have added this to my original response, however, regarding the installation of our VW Paddle Shifters, some folks may actually prefer to use NO springs in their Paddle Shifter assemblies. The NO spring option gives the user less engagement travel and a more precise feel.
Personally, I have experienced and experimented with about every spring/no-spring combination possible and I typically run my Paddles without springs and have done so for years (which the exception of initial product research and testing).
As Adamolee explained, the end result is up to preferences of the installer. I simply want to give everyone another option.
Thanks again,
Michael Bello
