That must be the thing the solenoid plugs into.

Dedy doing the wiring, which was a pain. Turns out the solenoid uses power 24/7 even if the car is off, draining your battery slowly. Dedy had to find an alternative power source to make sure the unit turns off when the keys are out of the ignition. He's the man, anybody else might have installed it incorrectly.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2555/4154088507_f3460b4eb1_o.jpg
Dedy installed the control unit in the boot, under the trim near the passenger side rear light. We found this hole drilled through by Barloworld for the reverse parking sensors. It had no touch up paint on it at all so Dedy cleaned it up and sealed it with some paint.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2601/4154088577_c2666f0f4e_o.jpg
We also found the reverse sensor just dangling loose.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2667/4154849738_06635b656e_o.jpg
The reverse sensors are also painted with a spray can by the looks of it.

Can someone please translate? It seems the valve is adjustable with a bolt. I assume you can make the exhaust louder in quiet mode, or softer in loud mode.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2552/4154849972_567b5db892_o.jpg
Spotted on my piss break.

Also adjusted rear damper settings, why doesn't everyone number their damper adjusters like Bilstein do?!

The car sounds insane now on loud. It's awesome. In quiet mode it's a raspier sound than stock but it's also quite quiet and the induction noise from the GruppeM intake has increased in volume so much so that all you hear is a huge loud sucking noise on WOT.

Owww I don't know Capristo, can it be beaten!

I have to say the Capristo is on playing field of its own, in cost and sound :P

I'll put my hand up and say that for the price, considering this is the word's most expensive off the shelf exhaust for the R32 Golf. I am truly disappointed that the entire exhaust is not made of Titanium (would never rust and would be super light). Having said that it sure sounds like a million dollars.

The Capristo keeps the exhaust pipes split all the way from the cats to the rear muffler which makes the exhaust heavier as there is more piping used but it sure seems like a logical move and it sure as hell looks more hardcore from under the car! The design of it would also help me sleep better at night (lol).

On both my R32 GT-R and my Skyline V35 350GT (both 6's) I have the option of putting in aftermarket dual exhausts which can start at both the manifolds all the way back to the muffler. It makes even more sense on the GT-R as it's running 2 turbos but I've yet to see anyone run them. I assume it's a combination of more weight, loss of back-pressure, no significant increase in power or difficulty in accomodating for 2 pipes all the way back off the stock exhaust hangers? There's so much mystery surrounding whether or not 2 pipes all the way from the engine out or 2 pipes leading into one is best.

Either way you look at it I think it's fair to say that both the Capristo and Kreissieg are the cream of the crop exhausts currently available for the R32 Golf full stop.

Agreed Justin, I was hoping to have exhaust in Titanium but Capristo HQ told me it was not justifiyable in terms of $$...Capristo also told me the exhaust was still lighter than OEM, I will find out exactly once Jig gets is Capristo delivered.
I have modified backpressure to optimum levels and yes I am working on a dyno run.
I am waiting for Ramspeed to lock me in so yes we will see if those Capristo claims 24HP & 50NM are legit!!

I don't think those claims will be unfortunately...

But anyway, they are both the cream of the crop I agree.
Hard-core goes to Capristo
Looks go to Kreissieg

17.8KW gain from an exhaust on a naturally aspirated engine sounds absolutely INSANE Frenchie. If you only get half of that you should still be 100% happy.

I only got a few KW gain from a Buddy Club exhaust on my S2000. Dyno chart before and after below.

Buddy club dual Pro Spec exhaust, dyno test performed in shootout mode:

DYNO BEFORE

AFTER

COMBINED

A healthy gain. A/F is a bit crazy though as you can see. Interesting to make power gains at the bottom too.

Umm, they are indeed ''large claims'' I guess the only way we will find out is to get this car Dynoed asap...Hopefully in the next few weeks, unless you can recommend somewhere that has experience with DSG etc..

Frenchie, DSG or SMG, Selespeed, manual or auto, it's all good on a dyno.

I'd give Indy a buzz:
ADDRESS:Unit 5, 5-7 Bermill St Rockdale NSW 2216
TEL:02 9599 9918

He's got his own dyno and only he operates it. His English isn't great (his staff are evenb worse) but he's a top guy.

A few cars on Indy's Dyno Dynamics dyno (he has the dyno in it's own warehouse space):

Justin Fox

OK Frenchie you're right about DSG being different (I was totally wrong, assuming is bad Justin bad!). Indy says he's got to be more careful on the dyno with DSG. He's up for doing a dyno run with your car and Suga's car Saturday 27th. $88 it'll cost you. Let me know if you're keen on that and I'll book it in.

Frenchie

STOIE
16-02-2010, 04:18 PM
Lol, yeah DSG slips from 4th and drops to third.
As a result the DSG has to be remapped to stay in fourth on the dyno, this takes someone with remapping skills for the DSG specifically and dyno skills.

I wouldn't mind dyno'ing my car, but who knows where I can go around here...! :(

Oh and soz SUGA, personal pref, Cap gets the sounds :P

STOIE - definitely having a go at you (lol): Regarding your preference for the Capristo exhaust sound. I assume you have heard both in real life? If you haven't, are you basing your preference on videos you have seen/heard? If so, that's super weak!!!

It's pretty obvious to say that video/sound recordings are far from accurate. I've heard stock cars sound more amazing than they are on YouTube clips. I suggest, if you have not heard them already, to turn up to a future meet and hear both of them in real life THEN state your preference in public, that way you would be basing it off PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

Again, maybe get some real facts first? I am 100% sure the Kreissieg costs a lot more than the Capristo. In fact the Kreissieg exhaust at the time of purchase for the R32 Golf was the cheapest exhaust they make in their entire range, the other exhausts in their line are for exotics like the Lamborghini Gallardo, Murcielago LP640, Ferrari 360 Spyder etc.

Definitely having a go at you here (lol) but I run a few forums and I can't stand it when people speak from what they have read, or heard somewhere else. Nothing beats speaking from experience, it helps to keep the confusion down! :)

Nice exhaust Suga, i've yet to hear it but from what some of the guys from JDMST have told me it must be absolutely mental!

As to who's better, Capristo or Kreisseg. Who gives a fark lol. Their both fricken awesome and both manufacturers just made a pretty penny out of you people haha. And thank god they did otherwise laymen like the rest of us would not have the opportunity to see these masterpieces of fabrication probably ever.

As for those gains from the Capristo exhaust, you are welcome to prove me wrong by i HIGHLY doubt such gains are achievable.

Now we just sit back and wait for the proverbial shit to hit the fan when people start arguing about GTI ecu flashing.

Agree with Justin....Videos do not always do any justice to replicate sound........I have heard both :) and yes I am very impressed with Kreissieg sound, it is much more aggressive/louder/high pitch where as Capristo is a deeper/sport car sound ish both amazing in their own right....

All up into the country it cost $7.5 K ( at the bad exchange rate I bought it at). :(
The guys at JDMyard shipped it by boat in one of their containers, so the shipping costs were significantly lower not sure how much though.

Not sure about how much to fit- Justin you remember?
