Am wondering last few weeks, am I better to try and find a used car with all the work already done to it. Rather than scooping so much to F/I my own car...

Well the wheels and tyres + turbo kit alone would cost at least $15k so it seems like pretty good value to me. Anyone who goes this far on a car will usually lose at least 50% when selling up.
I've seen that :R on carsales before.
Its been on there quite a while.
Seems like a good buy, BUT there must be a catch.
I've just been through the whole car buying process with mine + my brothers car not long ago and people have a tendency to lie over the phone. You would only get an idea of what its like if you saw it in the flesh.
To answer your question though, I'd personally save up and do the mods to your car.
That is half the fun (and essence) of modding. You're upgrading your car, you know what has been done to it, you know that you've looked after it and you will value it much more highly sentimentally.
I think you would feel a greater sense of accomplishment doing it yourself, rather than buying someone else's work.
Just my 2c.

Oh yeah, of course doing it myself would be the fun...
But the outright cost of turbo kits in Australia is just ridiculous!

Agreed. I love doing it all myself too when it comes to mods but sometimes you can save a heap of you buy a highly modified used car.
I recently bought (and sold) a Jazz with a K20A engine conversion, it also had a plethora of top shelf parts in it but I didn't know exactly what it had and what everything did as I didn't build the car. It cost the previous owner $60k+ to build and I bought it for a shitload less so I definitely saved a LOT LOT LOT of money on it (than if I was to build it myself).
I say so long as you've got an extra $10k on top of the asking price of this car, for anything that might (and will) go wrong with it, then do it. Anything broken can be fixed.

if i remember correctly, on the VWW forums they say this car has been thrashed a shitload and has swapped owners a couple of times so i wouldn't trust it (assuming what i remember is correct)
I say twin turbo YOUR r! and keep it forever because the mkv r32 is the last of the v6 glory that vw will 'ever' make since they have converted to FI
