Who here has done the conversion from normal halogen to the xenon headlights for their GTI MKV?
Its quite rare to find one with the xenon headlights and i find that option is a must have.
I have a few questions, what brand did you guys opt for. How much does VW charge for that upgrade? Would the auto headlight function still work if its an aftermarket unit.

I was wondering about the HID headlights for these cars. MKV's have reflectors, and not projectors right? What bulb type are the low beams?

Also, while we are on the topic of light (not meaning to highjack thread), but do the R32 golf rear lights fit on the GTI's?

GTI use H7 halogen bulbs as standard.

R32 taillights is a direct swap for the GTI, a must IMO. This was my last GTI with R32 tails.

silverbullet (John) did this conversion from memory, I recall it wasn't cheap.

I've done mine. Got the OEM projector headlights from Hella. Then retrofitted the Mtek HID kit to it. The Hella comes in H7 fitment.

the way 10d did it is prob the cheapest. i bought the oem xenon units from tmtuning.com way back when it was 1700US for the kit. after conversion, and customs worked out around 2200aud plus installation which you could prob do yourself. autoleveling is a separate kit but a hassle and i didn't do it and never really needed it. If i were you kao7ik i would be patient and buy a gti with xenons. there will be a few coming out for sale as ordered mk6 gti's start arriving and golf R's go on sale. but if you have already bought your GTI then contact 10d.

Ask for Gerald Mok

Very good, it's in Sydney you can pick them up, no problem with warranty,

Cheers!

I went with the Dynabeams too.

Got them from TMTuning and installed them myself. Installation was very easy and everything fitted well (made by Hella).

How long did it take you, including the bumper removal and replacement?
Would you do it again or is it something which is a bit of a novelty?

I think the dynabeams look good; there is the extra setup of the controls for that, too, right?

yeah maybe i should just wait and save the hassle. The market at the moment you either get the xenon lights but no sat nav or vice versa, very hard choice. If i do get desperate then i might have to DIY with the dynabeams as other members suggested.
Anyone keen on doing a DIY write up on this. Im sure many others out there would be keen to give it a go themselves
